  1. If you have been successful, albeit slow at the weight-loss journey, can you please tell me how many calories you took in each day (roughly) in order to be successful. I am lucky and I mean LUCKY if I lose an average of maybe one pound per week and I'm only 21/2 months post op. I would like to know your formula for losing. How much H2o you take in etc...thanks so much in advance
  2. Hi: came home from hosp. today - was sleeved early on Monday. Is it normal to barely be able to sip water. Forget about anyting else. I have unbearable gas - my adomen is the size of a beachball. When does hte gas go away and waht is up with the hearburn. I'm taking prescription prilosec. Please tell me it gets better. I feel weak - my Dr. said not to worry about taking in liquid protein for a few days and to go slow. PLEASE MAKE ME FEEL BETTER! sorry for commplaining, but this is killer
  3. I am only down 20lbs - but still plugging along...like a turtle

    Early Stall?

Try not to sweat it - some lose slow - like me! I can go 10-14 days and not show any loss, then the next day I will be down two pounds. Then another 10 days or so and nothing and bam down two pounds. That averages out to 1 to 1 1/2 pounds per week. Not 3-4 lbs like some other folks. I am learning not to "freak" out about it. I am only out 10 weeks (I think) and that is how it has been for me since the day I came home from the hospital. But I look at it this way, I am not gaining! I am losing, just slowly. And without the sleeve, if I didn't lose weight after a week, I would have quit and gone back to overeating and then gaining. Now I don't. I only eat about 750-900 calories per day and little to no carbs and that is still my slow loss. So hang in there because it all adds up
  5. thanks for your posts - makes me feel better. I decided to try to keep my calorie intake to no more than about 700 cal per day. I too put water into 3 24oz bottles at the beginning of every day and drink throughout the day from them - then I know I got all 72 oz in! vitamins consist of four centrum chewables per day. I need to check with my NUT to make sure I'm getting in enough vitamins. I am also scared of my outcome a year from now - will I be close to goal? with this slow weightloss - I wonder and hope that it will all be good!

    weight loss stopped

I am right there with you! my weight loss is extremely slow by others standards. It seems like my scale will not budge for like 14 days and then overnight there is a loss of 2lbs. then another stall for another week or so, then a loss of 1.5lbs. when you add it all up I have only lost to date approx. 21lbs since date of surgery which was 11/12/12. I'm just plugging away at it and now I know that it will take me much longer to reach my goal of 150lbs than other folks - so I have accepted it and try to feel happy with my little successes...do you feel better now that you know you are not alone

    week 1 - no loss?

If it makes you feel any better, I have lost very slowly. 15lbs pre-op and only 18 since surgery which was 11/12/12! I hit stalls every other week. But I still wouldn't change my decision. I believe it will come off, with extra effort (more than what the average person seems to have to do). So hang in there
  8. Fiinally started losing again - per the scale. Down 5lbs since two weeks ago. I hope it keeps moving downward! slow but happening...
  9. the three week stall ended with this past week and a 4lb loss. and now that's it again for days - the same #. I am happy to hear your story Cheri as it gives me hope that although I am a slow loser I will get there. Thank you for sharing. I truly wish I did measurements prior to surgery as I know things fit better on me even if my scale is "broken" lol.
  10. I had a good three week stall beginning 2nd week of December and just ending this past week! I was sleeved on 11/12 so it started at four weeks post op. I am most definitely the slowest loser on these boards -
  11. I was sleeved on 11/12 - day of surgery weight 221.5 - today I'm 206 - so about 16lbs. THAT'S IT! can you say slow loser? I still have restriction - thank god I was in a stall for like 3-4 weeks. I thought the scale would never start moving again - but it has this week. Preop I lost 15lbs. So for a grade total I am down 31lbs. 16 since day of surgery is probably the least amount I've read that people have lost in 8 weeks post -op. I am trying to celebrate my small successes and not dwell on the scale. I make a conscious effort every day to do the right things - sometimes I slip but for the most part I am dead on. Except for taking vitamins. I am a bad vitamin taker. I just bought Centrum chewables today, and I like them, so I'm going to take four a day and some added calcium because I can't stand chewing the bariatric ones I bought from my hospital pharmacy. Constipation has been a never ending battle for me. I have hypothyroidism and not sure if that is part of my problem or not. I have been taking meds. for it for 17 years now. I started using a treadmill a couple of times a week and signed up for my first ever yoga class starting next week. I know I should be running or something more but I'm not motivated to do that yet. We'll see what the spring holds for me Good luck everyone!
  12. well you are certainly not alone - I was sleeved on 11/12 and here I am 8 weeks later and only down 14lbs since day of surgery. I lost 16 prior to surgery. I am frustrated too. Espectially when I read that people have lost 40 lbs in 8 weeks or so. I wonder what is wrong with me. I seem to be doing everything right, short of not eating at all. I'm trying to look at it like this, I haven't gained weight and I know I'm losing inches because my clothes are showing it. People at work are telling me how great I look and "wow" you are losing right - stuff like that. I am disheartened at the slow loss though. I wonder how many slow losers have hypothyroidism like me. I wonder how much that matters....

    *signs* Stall !

I never measured myself - I know that was stupid! I "think" I've lost inches and not pounds. Is that even a medical possibility? I can button a size 14 jeans now though! why won't my scale move past 209. Good luck this week everyone - let's check back in next week. If nothing happens for me, I'm calling my Dr.'s office

    *signs* Stall !

Update today Saturday - got on scale and thought I must be down at LEAST a few ounces. NOPE still 209! So I take off my pj's (too personal - sorry) and socks and step on again - still 209! Here's what I ate today (which is a pretty typical day for me these days). I'm telling you my food choices in the order iin which I ate them: Protein shake with a few tablespoons of frozen mixed berries (made with mostly Water and little tiny bit of skim milk ) - I drank the whole thing one cup of coffee with some regular 1/2 and 1/2 (very little bit) and I'm NOT giving up 1/2 and 1/2 in one cup of coffee water (24oz bottle) - yum 2 ozs of tuna with a little mayo 3 special k baked chips one piece of boston lettuce 24 more oz. of water dinner = skinless roasted chicken about 2 ozs. 1/2 cup of roasted eggplant and fresh asparagus that I made with a little olive oil in the oven. more water I'll bet you a million dollars that two more days from now I'm still at 209... on the upside I met a person I hadn't seen in a long time in the grocery store and she said I looked great! I'll keep plugging away at it - I mean it has to move downward at some point - right?

    *signs* Stall !

well my story outa make you feel better about yourself. sleeved on 11/12/12 weight day of surgery about 222. Today I am only at 209. you do the math - 13lbs. That's it! over christmas weeks I lost nothing. I ate a little less mindfully and had a few Lindt candies, but still nothing. So this week I hit everything on target - 72oz water, protein protein protein. little to no carbs - what do you know? I stepped on the scale this morning and it is STILL 209. I'm gonna continue and then weigh myself in a few more days, and if still nothing - I'm going back for a refund! LOL. Could I possibly be the only sleeved patient that never loses any more weight? Dear god I hope not...
  16. Nice to know I am not alone! Can you say SLOW loser? Yup that's me! surgery date was 11/12/12 - to date I have only lost 13lbs! I am super focused this week on water and protein only - I will wait to weigh myself for a few more days and IT BETTER start to go down, or I want a refund! LOL. BTW I used to weigh myself every day and that was not good - don't do it. It is depressing
  17. I ate "wrong" too over the holidays. I didn't gain but I didn't lose either - and I'm only 8 weeks post-op. Back to working on the goal!

    Gall bladder meds

I can't even imagine another surgery at this point! My place of employment would flip! I'm sorry to hear you were hospitalized for 9 days (Sweetnye01) - do they know what caused it? How are you now? What were your symptoms?
  19. dlinnh

    Gall bladder meds

started at 237 pre op - day of surgery I was 222 and today I'm ONLY at 208 and I was sleeved on 11/12! NOW that's slow.....I haven't lost anything in two weeks!

    Crying

Yes - you cry for no reason! It comes out of the blue and hits you and a few minutes later you wonder why the hell you are crying! It is crazy - but it passes. I am 7 weeks post op and don't cry like that anymore.
  21. dlinnh

    Gall bladder meds

Yup I'm supposed to take two per day too. I only take one per day, as my weightloss is incredibly slow and apparently people have developed gallstones when they have dramatic fast weightloss. Well my weightloss is not dramatic or fast - so I only take one
  22. Hi All: so I am a full three weeks post op today and feel totally exhausted. when does that end? I struggle to get through a day and when it comes to eating I am done after a few bites. I became dehydrated and needed an IV over the weekend. I just want to feel sorta normal again. When will that happen? Any takers to these questions. Thanks so much for your responses....

    Slow Weight Loss

so get this, I had a dr. appt yesterday (not with the surgeon's office) and of course they weighed me. At home, I weighed 209 - there I weighed 198. Really!? that can not possibly be right I say. She says her scale is correct. So I skip (not really) out of the office. Go home and put a 20lb weight on my scale and bamm it is correct. her scale was not right. so I shrug and say hit more water - which I do. and this morning the scale is up 5oz! I hate the scale and really need to deep six it. FYI date of surgery 11/12 I weighed 221. Today I am at 209.5. That's it - so all of you ARE NOT ALONE. it seems crazy doesn't it that we are eating SOOOO little and not losing like crazy, doesn't it? let's focus on the prize and give ourselves mini goals and milestones to reach and let's not weigh ourselves every day

    Slow Weight Loss

ok folks - water is the key! at least 72oz a day. I have been doing that for the past 2 full days and viola! the scale has begun to move in the right direction! not a lot, but it is moving and I'm convinced it is because of my water intake not to mention I feel so much better being properly hydrated. Tried more scallops today and they are stuck at the beginning of my stomach - I had three today as opposed to two from yesterday and three was one too many. So much to learn about ones new situation now isn't it! BTW Your urine should be almost clear. If it is not, then you are not drinking enough - at least that's what my nurse friend told me and she was right. For all of us "slow losers" lets hit the water this week adn report back in next week on progress good luck
