I was sleeved 8/27 & am down 100 plus a few, I started out at 290. I am having this odd reaction to this weight loss. When I started getting close to 200, I wanted it to slow down, I got like scared but I don't consciously feel scared, I am happy, thrilled, loving life. OK, so the scale goes to 195, all is good, goes to 190, all is good, now it is falling below 190, I am at 25 lbs to goal and my head is screaming, wait, not so fast, help, I'm not ready. Ready for what? I don't know? Is anyone else experiencing any of these CRAZY FEELINGS? P.s. most the time I love the scale going down, this comes and goes

Is sleeve good for SERIOUS sugar addicts?
rosehips replied to melissa160's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I had the sleeve 8/2012 so wow it has been 2 yrs. i lost 120 lbs over the first year & now i have gained 5-10 back, i lose the 5 & regain it. I am an active sugar addict, recovered alcoholic for 10 yrs. the nurse at my surgeons office told us in a group class "i have never seen a person keep their weight off that returned to their trigger foods". I took this to heart for a long time. At 4 months I had 2 bites of chocolate cake & was scared to eat anymore in case I dumped. I did not. Over the next 6-8 months I had no interest in cookies candy cake. I would take a few bites at say Easter & then I would gladly give away whatever I had to my husband. Time went by, my appetite has increased & I can eat a lot more. Sugar now talks to me all the time. I am completely readdicted. I am now going to OA & was able to stop all the sugar & re lose the 5 lbs. Then I ate something & off I went again. You might chose to google Dr. Robert Lustig. I watched his video THE SKINNY ON OBESITY & ADDICTION TO SUGAR. It basically explains we are trying to get more dopamine. As others have said it is not the difference between RNY, sleeve or bypass. It is going to be you & your fight with your addiction. We are works in progress. I love being 110 lbs smaller. My energy rocks, except when I am on sugar. I am fighting the best I can. I highly recommend the sleeve as it is less invasive. My mom had the bypass & she does not dump & can eat anything. I wish you all the best, watch his videos, you might learn something that will help you -
Yes this will pass, take your vitamins & keep pureeing. I was nauseous for months but it turned out to be a good tool to lose the weight fast. You have probably been told at a certain point you quit losing weight, could be 6 months, 9 months, 1 year. BELIEVE THEM. At 10 months boom it was over. Fortunately I lost 120 lbs, I am trying to lose 5 lbs now & it is crazy hard.

FOR ALL OF YOU VSG PATIENTS AT GOAL...
rosehips replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am stuck 15 lbs from goal. I have lost 110 since 8-1-12. For me I get scared sometimes and want to stop the weight loss, like when I was 205, For some unknown reason I was scared to go below 200. Of course I wanted it but I was in conflict. Then I got to 185 & again got scared to hit goal. I am over the fear totally now but now the scale does not move. I exercise a lot. I need to record food. Anyone else having these mental troubles when they see certain numbers on the scale. Oh & even though the scale is not moving My pants are getting much baggier. Hip hip hooray -
August Sleevers..what Is The Progress
rosehips replied to Lucabelle1313's topic in Food and Nutrition
Surgery on 8/27/12 I have lost 110 lbs. I exercise 5-6 days a week for an hour. Lots of water aerobics. I too am stalled. In April I was eating sugar so I was going up & down 2 lbs. then I got a grip, stopped sugar as of May 10th, lost the 2 lbs and now am sitting at 180 every day. Goal is 165. I will not quit til I get there....this weight loss has been so awesome so far, I don't want to miss what the final 15 will bring me. Thanks for everyone's input, sounds like a lot of us are "stalled". -
Yea, if u r comfortable sleep anywhere you want.....

I am so sorry you are experiencing that. I hope you call your doctor. I did not have it from surgery but I did have it one time from getting off pain pills and it was really hard to deal with.

I am a firm believer there was a reason (that you will never know) as to why you did not have surgery in 2011. Now is your time for success. As far as the hair thing, my hair thinned at month 5, I had slacked off on daily vitamins, it might have happened anyhow. Yes, I flipped out, yes I hated it. By month 8 I was & am back to normal as far as hair. Is my body normal? Hell no, it is far from normal, it is fabulously improved. If I could have imagined the freedom & happiness I received from losing this weight, I would have agreed to a year of baldness to obtain this!!

Hi Skip, I hear your desperation & I can clearly remember feeling desperate, w/ no choices left yet scared to do the WLS. What if it does not work, what if I gain it back, what if I wreck a perfectly good body part...... Like I said I was at my wits end, I had tried & tried over the years to diet, I'd lose some weight, gain it back & more. I am now 9 months postop & 110 lbs less. I am light on my feet, I go up stairs and am not out of breath. I put my tennis shoes on w/out dreading it. I do not worry about fitting in a chair or walking in a room. I go to support groups, work on my mental addiction, talk honestly with others. I do water aerobics 4 times a week, lift some weights, walk my dog. Summer has arrived, I am now on my bike. The exercise caused me to have consistent weight loss of 10 lbs every month, more in the beginning. The surgery made it possible for me to not give up, I ABSOLUTLY could not eat more than the 1/4 c, them up to a 1/2 cup and I stayed at a 1/2c per meal for a long time and overall I was satisfied. Now I can eat 1c & a little more. I am much much happier but I still have the same personality, I can get depressed for no good reason, I overdo it & become exhausted (but I had a lot of fun before I got exhausted). I do real well w/ my liquid & protein most of the time. Vitamins too. This is my story of commitment so far with this surgery, without this my story would be my old story, I tried, I got too hungry, I ate, I gave up. My doctor told me I was not a loser, he says we just get too hungry & it takes too long without this surgery. God Speed to YOU, your doctor & your wife. Your life is going to change, follow ALL the rules!!!!!

RIGHT ON, I'd give it to God, (since you are the one who says & asks for prayers, I'm not wanting to be offensive w/ the God thing)...I am pretty sure you are meant to be alive & one more success story, I am so happy for you!!!

I'm thinking this is what "normal people do, see the 7 lb weight gain and then stop and get it off. My problem was always....1. I could not stop after the vacation. 2. I would buy new pants. I vow to never buy bigger clothes again!!!!

You are an animal, will you rest tomorrow? What kind of exercise did you do before surgery? Did you do all that in an hour?
-
Yesterday arms, back, abs, 1 hr water arabica, today legs, abs, 1 hour water aerobics. So fun while doing it but I get so tired after, I have had 80 gms PROTIEN today & all my water, why oh why am I so tired?

I will pray & believe right now for the papers to get in the right hands. If for some reason the surgery can not be done on Monday then there is a reason for this. Hang in there, I will follow your journey & at this point believe Monday will happen. INSURANCE AND STAFF PEOPLE CAN BE SO FRUSTRATING, I can only imagine the time you have spent on this. P.s. my 102 yr old mil lives w/ us. She says 5 times a day "u've lost a lot of weight haven't you?". Week in and week out she says this. At least she is not saying the opposite. Take Care

Have this great recipe I love..but will it be VSG compatible ?
rosehips replied to Heather Meyer's topic in Food and Nutrition
I have only thrown up one time in my 8 months post op, rice was the culprit & it was like a 1/4 c that I ate. I have had one bite of sushi since then and was OK. Before the surgery my favorite foods were really important to me. Now being post op I care a LOT LESS about food. I actually can give my food away. , before I wanted my food and yours too!. -
7 days from Surgery.. Pre Op killing me.... Is it a sign that I am not for the VSG?
rosehips replied to winnada's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are getting good advice. The PRE op diet was really really hard, I called my doc and told them how starving I was at week 3 & they let me eat a little more. Then 2 days before my surgery I pigged out, called doc again, he told me it is called the last meal. I lost the required amount but it sucked. Since the surgery all is better, real hunger is relieved, heck I'd I am hungry 4-6 bites later I am full. I almost chickened out one week before surgery, thank God I did not. 108 lbs gone in 9 months. Only u know if this is for you, but do not base it on the preop DIET, none of us ever were successful on a diet long term, that's why we are employing a new tool, hang in there. You are doing good -
Oh you look so happy & you look great. Keep on doing the deal!!!

The forum is "super Saturday weigh in"
-
Fabulous, maybe you want to put this in "I want to see before and after pics" forum. When was your surgery?
-
Thanks for stressing the big 64, you are so right and I really do feel hungrier if I mess up on my water. I am glad you are enjoying life, I hope this tool works for you your entire life!!!!

I can't tell when your surgery was. But for me, the first 6 months after this surgery I weighed once a month. I knew I was eating according to the guidelines and I was excersing as much as I could. I can get negatively affected if the scale is not going down, even makes me want to eat from discouragement so I just used clothes to know I was shrinking. I am now starting month 9. Since my portions are increasing and I am no longer "perfect" on my food plan I weight about every other day, mayde longer if I am really on track. I have never had the frustration of a stall, one time I weighed in at 3 weeks and I had lost nothing at all, a week later I had lost 10 lbs. IT IS CRAZY, I exercise a lot, so with this surgery if I follow the guidelines it just happens, I lose 10+ lbs every month so far. As you can see, we all do it differently, oh & recently I started on the forum where we all post our weight loss every Saturday, now I am looking for some accountability. I think it is called something like Saturday weigh in, pm me if you can't find it and want to join in. Good luck

Right on, you are only 18 days post op right? Power walking, you are doing the deal. I have incorporated intervals as they say that burns calories really good too. Keep us posted on your exercise journey

HAIR help......please
rosehips replied to Sarahboy13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It happened to me at 5mo, by 8 months I am back to normal in thickness. I too FLIPPED OUT. Here I was feeling all pretty, everyone is complimenting my body as I stand there with my ears showing through my hair. I started washing my hair less, brushing it ever so gently & thankfully I had enough to pull it back and clip it. I suggest not getting your hair colored during this phase. My friend suggested some Redkin shampoo that thickens the hair, but since this stopped I did not research that. I was not sure I'd this was going to go on for a year or what, Fortunatly it really was just about 2.5 months for me. Good luck, I am so sorry it is your turn. -
Struggling with those last few lbs.
rosehips replied to bookleen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am losing my motivation, everything has been going so well, now at 22lbs to goal I am really acting irresponsibly, either I forget to eat for almost the whole day or I eat too much. Maybe just saying it out loud will help -
OK, I'm joining in.....I have lost 108 so far & need to lose 22 for goal. 182 right now This will help me be accountable, I have been goofing off with food cause I am so happy with what I have accomplished so far. This is not good, I can go all the way, yes I can!!!!!
