Surgery First Or Baby First?
elibu replied to heatherjo7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am an L&D nurse and I see everyday then risk that women face when they are overweight and pregnant. I would first talk with your OB before making any decisions. So much depends on your risk factors as far as your health is concerned. Pregnancy puts such a stress on your body even if you are healthy. Then throw in weight issues, possible gestational diabetes risks, your age, vag vs. c section history etc... Make an appt with your OB and sit down with him/her to discuss your options before going any further... Good luck and keep us posted! -

Incision Discomfort And Sleep
elibu replied to evonnrae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a side sleeper too. Try lying on the same side as your incision with a pillow placed under it for support. The pressure from the pillow should help. At least it did for me. It took me 5 weeks for the pain to completely go away -

Try an abdominal binder. You can get them at babies or drug stores. It helped me a lot.

If u were taking blood pressure meds prior to surgery and after losing weight your BP is down. This might cause you to be dizzy

I'll give it a go... Sleeved 8/29 244 CW 213 GW 160 I will try to lose 7lbs. I actually want to below 200 by the new year. So this will be my half way point. Good luck everyone -
Here in NE FL it is a little cooler this AM due to Hurricane Sandy blowing by. So I broke out the dreaded jeans from last winter. You know, the ones that were to tight by the time the holidays came around and the ones that didn't stretch...the ones that if I bent down with them buttoned to tie my shoe I felt like I was going to pass out.... Well guess what, I can bend over and tie my shoe, breath in them and they are actually a little big...And I have to wear a belt to keep them up... 30 lbs down in 2 months since surgery....YEAH ME!!!!!!!

Hi all..New to this site. Let me introduce myself. My name is Elizabeth and I am 48 years old. Been married for 30 years (in April) I am a night L&D nurse. Have struggled with my weight all my life..I know just like most of us have LOL! Today is the beginning of week 2 post op for me. I have my sleeve placed on 8/29/12. I was in the hospital for 2 very long nights. It started of as a early day getting to the hospital at 0530, surgery start time was 0730. Met with my surgeon and my anesthesia guys that I was fortunate to pick ( I am a nurse at the hospital). So I know I was in good hands. Being a nurse does have it advantages but in my case I was really nervouse because I know just a little to much about what goes on LOL. Anyway, I was given Versed before going to the OR..It is a med used to relax you, which I needed. Only remember being in the OR for maybe 3 minutes and the rest is a blank... Woke up in recovery with only a quick second of feeling nauseous and that was it. I was in recovery for about 5 hours while they tried to get the previous patient out of my room hehe Why would anyone like to stay longer than they have too? Moved to my room and did really well. My doctor does not believe in his patients being in pain and gave me meds round the clock and then extra was available if needed. After day one I had to do a swallow study and I passed thank heavens..My mouth was as dry as a desert. Started off with 1 oz of water for 4 hours, then 2 oz for 4 hours then I could drink as much as I could tolerate...I have to say that first sip of water was the best water I have ever tasted.. Been doing really well the first week. Kind of tired from no rest at the hospital ; / Still sore but getting better by the day. Have had no problems with nausea or vomiting. I do have to say that yesterday I had a weird experience. I took my dog to training for the first time since surgery. I was there for maybe 10 minutes and all of a sudden I got the worst stomach pain, broke into a cold sweat and had to leave. I didnlt know if I was going to be sick or worse...the other end...TMI? Barely made it home and since I have been kind of queazy. had some SF pudding last night and I tolerated it well..This AM I am feeling the same, just kind of queazy, crampy like... I am so looking forward to eating a soft diet, I go back to work next Wed night. I want to start eating a little before going back to work to make sure I tolerate it OK.. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and sharing their VGS journey with them... Much love, Elizabeth

After 4 days on a clear liquid diet and then 9 1/2 days on a full liquid diet (mush diet) I ate a slice of cheese today and it was YUMMY!!! Pain was much better today hardly any at all and no pain meds so far today.. Yeaaaaaaaaaa me!!

Barium Test- How Did Your Stomach Feel
elibu replied to Lollyx3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are talking about the swallow test after surgery, it wasn't that bad. I was so thirsty that I was actually excited. They have you drink about 3 small swallows. It only equals about 2 oz total if that. Mine tasted like what you would imagine really strong clorinated pool water would taste like...Not great but tolerable.. -
I was sleeved on 8/29. 4 weeks ago yesterday. I have had some terrible left sided pain when I stand, get out of bed or turn the wrong way. I have been wearing a binder to help also. But still have always had some type of pain . Last night at about 2AM, I turned over and felt a popping sensation in the spot that has been giving me so much trouble. Didn't hurt, just weird....I am wondering if there was an internal stitch that was tugging and it finally desolved and let go........ Well this morning I woke up and VIOLA...NO PAIN!!!

Restaurant Discounts
elibu replied to StevieSmithtown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bet if you didn't have a card and asked anyway they wouldn't refuse you...Or you could just offer to show them your scars...LOL, I bet they would not take you up on the offer and just agree hehe!! -
I would add the rice. Since there isn't that much rice in stuffed peppers anyway...go slow and see what happens. I have had rice with no problems..ENJOY

A binder is kind of like a girdle but just for your belly only. I helps to support your ab muscles. You can get them at Walgreens or Walmart in the first aid section or at Target or babies r us. I am a nurse and we use them for our c section moms post op. It made all the difference in the world for the pain. If you haven't been sleeved yet, as your MD if he can perscribe one while in the hospital. Try it...it is wonderful

40 Days- What A Difference!
elibu replied to BigMommaNoMore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 8/29. I am down 25. I know what you mean about the spare tire. My belly was bigger than my boobs. Lol. You look great. Keep up the good work -
Are you or were you taking herparin during/after surgery. This could cause it. Just a thought
-
Yep, I used the same kind that our sections are given...I am actually going to suggest it to my surgeon when I go back for my 3 month check up that he perscribes them for his patients...It helped me tremendously. I would splint my side when getting out of bed and at work just for a little extra support...
