From 1st Consult to Surgery - how long?
GeorgiaGirl replied to KMEArnold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to my first information session on 4/18/07. My initial consultation with the surgeon was on 5/21/07. Psych test, nutrition consultation, new patient class was on 5/23/07. Insurance approval first of June and surgery 7/13/07. -
I was banded 3 days ago. I haven't had a lot of gas pain but my stomach constantly rumbles and makes lots of noises. I hope you feel better soon.

I was banded on Friday, July 13th. I stayed in the hospital overnight and was released the next morning. My ride home was 1 1/2 hrs. Just make sure you bring a pillow to put over your stomach for the ride home. I think my mom hit every hole between the hospital and home that day. I promise if I was okay then so will you. The pillow really helps.

My surgery was yesterday. Is it normal to hurt so bad everytime you move? If I cough it feels like my inside are going to explode. I'm afraid that I am going to make the band slip or my port flip. Is this normal?

What were your incisions closed with?
GeorgiaGirl replied to faithmd's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The surgeon used disolvable stitches on the inside and glue on the outside. I go back in 2 weeks for them to look at the incisions. -
Was your surgery date the same as mine, trystelle?

Got My Date...freaking out...can I do this
GeorgiaGirl replied to lovestoned's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just banded Friday, July 13th. I was a nervous wreck wondering why I would allow myself to be inflicted with pain and why am I doing this to myself. Everyone said that those thoughts and feelings were normal. Anyway, I didn't run for my life from the hospital and had the surgery. I was sore yesterday but feel much better today. The only things that I worry about now is when I move am I messing something up in there? It's crazy I know to be paranoid but I just can't help it. Anyway, good luck with your surgery and look at this as a new beginning for you. -
Does anyone feel like their insides are ripping apart when they get up and down? I try to be careful but there is only so much you can do.

Thanks. I have got to remember to sip not gulp. It's a hard habit to break.

Got My Date...freaking out...can I do this
GeorgiaGirl replied to lovestoned's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

I got my band yesteray...Friday the 13th. I was okay until I started driving to the hospital, 2 hrs away. The real jitters started when they took me back to preop. Then I got a little freaked. They said that the surgery went beautifully. I am a little sore but not as bad as I thought that I would be. All I can say is to hang in there and being scared is normal. I wish all of you luck with your surgeries.
-

I was approved in a week as well. My surgery date is 7/13/07. I am excited and nervous.

Hi everyone! I start my pre-op diet next Saturday and could use some suggestions for the protein drinks. What's good? What has the correct amount of protein? Any help is appreciated.

Pre-Op Diet Suggestions
GeorgiaGirl replied to GeorgiaGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all for the suggestions. I will definitely check them out. Everything is getting so near that I am just going crazy trying to do everything that I am supposed to do. My surgery date is July 13...Friday the 13th...isn't that funny? -
Reading all of these posts makes me nervous. My paperwork was sent to UHC on 6/5/07 or at least that's when it was supposed to be sent. I have attended an information session and a support group. I have had my initial consult with the surgeon and have clearance from all of my doctors. Now I am playing the waiting game. Wish me luck!

I am from GA (Baxley) too. I am supposed to get banded in July.

I too have sleep apnea. I was diagnosed in November and have had my CPAP since December of last year. I have to have a letter of stability on CPAP for my doctor before anything is submitted to the insurance company. They said to get this from my pulmonary doctor. The problem is that I have never met the man that read my sleep studies. I went to a sleep center and sent by my allergest. When I called the sleep center they didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello from Georgia
GeorgiaGirl replied to GeorgiaGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I appreciate the encouragement. It gets rather discouraging at times. I am in hopes that my doctor schedules the stress test next week and everything turns out okay with that. I don't know why but I am a little worried about it. -
I first want to say hello. My name is Cayce and I went to an information session on April 18, 2007. There I filled out a packet so that the hospital could get the ball rolling on the insurance. They said that I would hear from them in 1 1/2 to 3 weeks depending on how soon my insurance company was. Anyway, on April 26, 2007, I received a call from the hospital to set up appointments. They said that the insurance covered the surgery. I was so excited. I have my first consultation visit on May 21st and my 2 hour pysche test on May 23rd. In the meantime I have to get a letter from my doctor recommending the surgery and something to say that I am able to go through surgery. I went to my primary care doctor Thursday, May 3. She agreed that lapband surgery was the way to go and that she would get the letter for me. She also wanted to do an EKG before she signed the other letter. Low and behold the EKG was abnormal and now I have to have a stress test. She said that she didn't think that it was anything to worry about just preliminary. Anyway, I hope to get all of that situated in the next week or so. I am so ready to start a new life. All of this red tape is very discouraging.

I too am in the waiting phase. I have my consultation with the surgeon on May 21st, my pysche eval on May 23rd and meet with the nutritionist on May 23rd. I can't wait to get the band and start my new life. Good luck to you.
