    Whats On Your Bucket List?

Dorrie- You are right- I previously posted an ad neaseum list but when it comes down to it - being alive to actually BE a grandma (God willing) and being healthy and fit to enjoy this wonderful time in life would be the greatest thing of all! (Right now I'm dealing with 2 teenage girls-17&18- ohhh the grey hairs! My mantra, "This too shall pass!" thanks for making me think!

You Know You're A Sleever When...

If those "friends" are so jealous of you that they end your friendship-they weren't true friends anyway! True friends rejoice in your accomplishments, love that you are bettering yourself and getting healthy! Will they come running back ig you regained the weight? Probably not. When they see you- you're a huge visual reminder of what they should do too if they are over weight. If they are trim- they are afraid of sharing the limelight. Selfish. You don't need that!
  4. Yaaaa! The dreaded airplane seatbelt extender! OMG- I died a little inside the first time I needed to ask for one! Congrats!

Why Did I Do That? Depressed Now!

I think it's a coping mechanism for allowing ourselves to fail in reaching our goals so that we can go back to the familiar rather than face the (scary) unknown. I laugh at myself... while losing weight I'm like "why are my boobs here? Why is my stomach there?, etc." mean while I'm ignoring my body while gaining weight - I'm NOT like, "Why is my stomach sticking out further than my chest?" "wow-this pants/skirt/dress/top feels a little snug today I better reduce my calories and move more!" (Sounds so simple, tho doesn't it?) as soon as I become conscious of what I put inside my body- I start to care about the outside. It does make sence when you look at it that way! As far as sagging skin- I've posted before stuffing extra tummy into Spanx to wear a 10-12 is better than looking 7 months pregnant in a size 22/24! Try to think positive thoughts about yourself to push out the negative. For every bad or negative thought you have about yourself- catch yourself doing it- correct yourself by saying 2 positive things about yourself. If we can't love ourselves- we really cannot love others.
  6. Awe RJ- sorry about the no meal during your Pre-op diet. I'll have to make sure it is very filling w/ lots of veggies to chew. Thanks for the protein bar info, Grammy. I'm def. going to try those!
  7. My Dr. puts us on a 3-week Pre-op. Diet consisting on one meal (prob. Dinner) of protein and veggies with 3 "protein meals". I ordered Unjury unflavored whey protein powder for smoothies and they have a chicken broth that's high protein for lunch. I'm dreading this phase- hardly any chewing involved and was hoping there's a high protein meal replacement bar to add to the menu. I suppose that compared to the clear liquid phase, this will feel like a feeding frenzy! Also, all the talk about Muscle Milk- is it high protein?

    The Absolute Best Protein Shake

Thanks for recommending Unjury Protein Shakes- I wanted to order my 3 week Pre-op supply. I called the 800 number and the sales person was so helpful- explaining what whey protein is, providing me samples of other flavors and recipes. I had no idea what the health and weight loss benefits were from whey protein! Now I know! Thanks!

    October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

Hey Jazzy! My DOS is 10/11/12- and I've been on bed rest for almost 2 weeks for an abductor muscle/groin sprain (excruciating pain and I'm used to having back pain but this takes the cake!) Anyway, I'm worried this will cause me to have to postpone my surgery. I called my surgeon last week, he hasn't called back yet. What do you think?
  10. Your surgeon should give you a checklist of requirements. I called my insurance company before my appt. asking what they require for approval. They did say it takes almost a month from when they receive the paperwork from my surgeon until their final approval, so I kept this in mind knowing that the sooner I had taken care of everything on the checklist the sooner I can get my insurance approval and surgery date. It seems like 2 months is the average time from meeting with Bariatric MD. to the date of surgery. I'm so excited! Can't wait - DOS 10/11/12. Peace!

Why Did I Do That? Depressed Now!

Amy-girl- I know what you are talking about - the cursed stomach "apron". Excess weight ruined my stomach (I had at 27" waist when I got married!), 2 c-section deliveries (big babies: 8lbs6oz. And my baby, 11lbs.8oz.) totally trashed it! When my girls were babies I lost weight on WW and step class. The more I lost the lower the apron hung. I saw a plastic surgeon- no insurance at the time- one income, it would cost $11,000(including a bust lift). Of course I couldn't afford it and I allowed the extra skin to cloud my judgement about how far I had gone and became depressed over it. Naturally, 15 years later and I am 100 pounds heavier than I was then. I am older and wiser now-and realize I'll never have my Pre-baby stomach, but I rather have excess skin stuffed into Spanx wearing a size 10 or 12 jeans, than wear a size 22 and look pregnant! Smoke a mirrors work fir a reason. The illusion sometimes is satisfying enough! (But I stll tell my hubby I would love a "mommy make-over"--tummy tuck and breast lift. Once I make goal. He just "yes'" me to death. He's tired of hearing about it!
  12. How are you doing today? You are in my prayers for a rapid recovery! 
  13. OMG I just got a cramp laughing over "bits"! We need a funny nickname for the excess stomach that looks like a butt! (One if my jokes is that I asked God to make my butt look smaller - I was always pear-shaped- smaller on top. He answered my prayers - POOF! My stomach has gotten so big that my butt DOES look small(er)!) 

    New Pics 70 Lbs Gone!

Ya, Gaye! You are doing it, girl! Thanks for posting B/A pix- weight loss numbers are good to know for facts - but photos show the transformation! I can't get over how people's faces change- more youthful and the inner happiness shines through. God bless you snd your family!

    How Would You Respond?

I'm cracking up! When I first started the process I shared my diet and everything with my mom. Later I thought, "Great, the whole family is going to know, I should have told her not to tell anyone." the next day I told her that it's very personal to please not tell anyone- I could tell by her expression that it was too late! For the love of God! anyway, she's all everyone loves you snd is worried about you, etc. I was annoyed but what can you do. Anyway, when I tried to post my "story " the 1st time here on the VSG forum, I posted it on Facebook by mistake!! LOL Now family, friends and co-workers all know!! If anyone says this is the "easy" way out... I'll tell them I've suffered enough in my life Losing then regaining weight- this is, finally, a permanent solution to a life-long problem and sorry if you're jealous!
  16. 1. Lane Bryant - bye! Bye! Tired of paying ridiculous prices for the simplest garment! It costs a fortune to look nice for work each season and a lot if the clothing styles should not be made plus-size (horizontal stripes size 22/24 is not flatering no matter how well made or attractive the item is!) 2. Pulling into a parking space and then you realize you can't squeeze out the door, so you have to re-park or change spots- embarrassing!! 3. The "personal hygiene" issue- I use tons of cornstarch-based powder! 4. Seats, seatbelts, rides, cars, bikes, etc. - always the worry "Will I fit?" or "Will I break it?"-horrifying!! 5. Feeling like the most undesirable woman in the world! My husband is so supportive and truly loves me but I don't love myself enough to be free to love him. The weight has affected my self-image (zero labido-TMI, sorry!)

    Psych. Appt.

I was nervous for my psych. Apt.- there's a history of mental illness in my family (depression, bi-polar)- thinking I'll be denied for toomany "issues". The psych. was wonderful- some questions but not like a quiz - nothing to spell or remember for later (wow, that was weird!) I wish I could see her again-excellent discussion about my past relationship with food, nutrition and diet and my expectations and desire for a permanent life-altering change. I can't imagine not taking this procedure seriously, but the psych. eval. probably reflects whether or not this is true for you. Good luck to those who haven't gone yet- you'll be fine. Just be educated and honest!
  18. How cool is that - you and your husband getting sleeved the same day! Love it! May you both continue to heal and do well! God bless!

    Feel Weak On Pre Op

I'm 5 weeks Pre-op but I'm on bedrest due to a pulled groin/abductor muscle, so I'm eating less than I'm supposed to calorie wise- Gaining wright is easy to do when you're not moving much! Anyway, low sodium chicken broth (2 packs in a big mug) with pepper and a little garlic powder help to feel less light-headed/woozy. Also some herbal green tea with lemon seems to help. 

    Whats On Your Bucket List?

There's so much livin' to do without weight and being self-conscious holding me back- short list: 1. Wear jeans and not have an indentation on my stomach when I take them off! 2. Boots, boots and more boots! Heavy calfs dont typically fit in nice sexy boots! (worn with a knit or sweater dress!) 3. Ride on my hubby's Harley - too scared to go on at this weight- feel like I'm going to kill us both by tipping over around a curve! 4. Ride a bike with my daughters (who are just starting to drive cars--before it's too late!) 5. Go hiking, walking, skipping and jumping, dance at rock concerts - move, move, move! 6. Family Trip to Hawaii - my dream vacation, with a mini vaca during stop over in So. Calif. where a lived for a bit in my 20's. (I loved San Diego, Mexico and Baja Ca.!) I visualize myself w/ my 2 beautiful daughters dancing ay a luau having the time of my life!
  21. I wonder why the pre-diet is so different from dr. To dr. What's it like to be on a liquid diet a week Pre-op while working? I assume it's the hardest part of the process! I was a grazer at work- lots of stress, munched all day or had little treats set aside to look forward to. I pulled my abductor muscle right after my vacation so I haven't been back to school (I'm a secretary in an Elementary School office) since being on my low fat, sugar, carb. plan. It's been easy to "be good" when I really can't get food for myself. Work will definitely be a challenge. I hope and pray to be back at work next week!
  22. When I got my date (10/11/12) I was at a 6 weeks before surgery point, I was put on a low carb/sugar diet- no sodas, only FF dairy (so ive cut my coffee consumption by 75 %, at least!), low sodium. 3 weeks before surgery I go on 2 protein meals and one protein / veggie meal per day. He wanted me to lose 10-12 lbs. I've already lost 9.5!! My stomach is shrinking, my cravings for carbs is gone, I'm satisfied with less food already! I try to not drink 1/2 hour before and after meals, chew my food thoroughly and focus on what I'm eating and slow down! Strategies that will help the transition post-op feel not so foreign. It's funny how each doctor is so different!
