    Mandatory Diet Before

Hi stokesmommy! I was put on 6 week then, now a 3- week Pre-op diet to lose 10-12 lbs. before surgery. I don't think it's about weight as much as shrinking some swelling in other organs that are affected by high fat& carb diets. Don't worry- keep positive and it will come off! Drink water - thats the best way to flush out the fat. If you don't drink a lot (and pee a lot!) your weight lose slows down- at least over my 40 years od dieting, water has always been a primal key to success.
  2. Hi Jayne! Good luck to you! Which hospital? I'm going to Mather in Port Jefferson.
  3. Only a week!?! For some reason I'm thinking like 3 weeks. I need to get better information from my nut. I'm frieking out over things I dint need to!

    Beer

Thanks for the great info! I'm sure gonna miss pumpkin beer with a cinnamon sugar rim this fall-- but next fall I'm throwing my own back yard Octoberfest- wearing my boots 'n jeans! (miss wearing jeans the most!) The alcohol will have to wait. What's up with a little weed? (ooops?). I like to indulge from time 2 time - I'm not a druggie, just like the mj. 
  6. Hi Joy! I too am getting sleeved in 10/11-on Long Island, NY. I was wondering about baby food too. I noticed the new organic purred veggies in squeeze tubes. I thought in a pinch these might work. I can imagine veggies being hard to digest post op. Any thoughts on these post-sleevers?
  7. She's a gorgeous woman and you are a wonderful husband- May God bless her speedy recovery and your future! 

    Beer

So, it's the sugar in alcohol that needs to be avoided? Does alcohol itself hurt the sleeve? I can imagine where before the op. I could do 2-3 shots of vodka or tequila- I guess maybe a small sip could do the trick, too.post-op.thanks for the info-my surgery is in 2-1/2 weeks (10/11/12) I'm starting to frisk out a little (the Pre-op diet is messing with my head!)

    Beer

What's the story with alcohol? Is vodka the liquor of choice as far as 'clear' is lower sugar/carbs? I'm not a big drinker but I love my tap beer and shots now and then! I'm sure my 'shot' days are over!
  10. Good luck everyone! Starting pre-op diet tomorrow. I already miss chewing!

    Eating Badly

I too have been a cheater lately! I'm off my Pre-pre-op diet today (lost 12 lbs. - what my surgeon wanted me to lose-so that's good). tomorrow I start 3 protein shakes and 1 lean n green , 2 fruits. I really miss carbs and coffee! Now I can't even have green tea! (who knew!) until surgery 10/11/12. 7 days before I go on liquid diet. I can do this! Thanks to all you sleevers out there who post information vital to our success. (Did I say I miss my coffee!

    Disgusted By Others Eating

The exchange of real feelings and or statements to what we ourselves feel is true is an excellent way for us to council ourselves and one another. No one should feel attacked - we are all growing (and for once it's not in body size!) emotionally, snd for me, spiritually. In other words, it's all good! We are using our brains and our hearts not just "the mouth" to engage! Peace!

    Magic Bullet

  15. That is really cool! I've been sketching what the VSG looks like-people are miss or uninformed. They are surprised how drastic yet uninvasive the operation is. I'm psyched! DOS-10/11/12-its coming fast! My doctor hasn't shared testing info with me other than my blood work shows I'm Pre-diabetic and I have a hernia. I love the CD - your doctor is very progressive! Good luck!

    Belly Binder

This is a great idea! I have a short (granny panty-size) and full (under bra to knee) pairs of Spanx - can these be worn? Did your surgeon recommend? My mom said years ago, after you had a baby, they made you wear compression garments to help pull stomach back in-why did they stop doing that? I would think it helps get the muscles to pull in tight. Although when I've worn my Spanx I fell like I'm being strangled -using the ladies room turns into a yoga/cardio workout! I can't get out if them fast enough!

    "cauliflower" Potato Soup

Sounds delish! Now I know what to make for dinner (leftovers for tomorrow's lunch!) I just happened to have a head of cauliflower and have JD Turkey sausage in freezer. I'll just chop up the links. I'll have to check out the crumbles-great to add to eggs, etc.

    Hating My Body Even More?!

I feel the same way! Like the real me-who I used to be- has had enough with being taken over by this food-addicted obese outer person! While I'm practicing positive thinking, I still get "mad" at myself for getting like this and at food for being so irresistable! I can and will resist- the surgery is just the answer to my orators once snd for all! I can't wait!! Hang in there-a year from now we'll be like 10 years younger! Yaaaa!
  21. I got my surgery date (10/11/12) on Aug. 28th and I thought it was so far away but time does sneak up and now it's only one month away! I've been on bed rest for the past 2 weeks for a bad abductor/hip flexer muscle sprain and I'm so glad I started my Pre-op diet plan or I would have gained like 10 pounds! This forum and watching Utube videos help pass the time. Also, I've been incorporating some changes now that will help after surgery like: no beverages 1/2 hour before and after meals, small bites of food chewed thoroughly, I'm writing recipes down (creating my own, too), I wrote a "when I'm a size--" wish list. All things to keep me in a positive mind-frame (not easy when you're laid up and on pain meds!) good luck and keep looking to the future not back to the past!

    Liquid Diet

Ha ha! Herbs usually give the munchies- I'ld avoid if possible!
  23. Have you tried a food tracking app like MyFitnessPal or LoseIt!? Once you enter in a meal you just click on it to enter it into your diary. As far as a menu- I like simple. I find I do better with a very structured meal plan though- try to limit times where I don't know what to eat- if you are too hungry, you could easily eat too many carbs or sugar. ie; Bkfst. - Greek yogurt or cottage cheese w a little fruit AM snack - apple with 2 tbls. natural peanut butter Beverage- Diet green tea with ginsing (large!) Lunch - 1 egg & 2 liquid egg white omlette with Sinny Cow Lite cheese (any flavor, they are all delish!) or lite Swiss cheese and 2 Jimmy Dean Turkey sausages (thaw, cut into small pieces and start sautéing in Pam sprayed frying pan. Add eggs and cheese, black pepper. Cover pan, lower heat. I top with banana peppers- the best! Also feta/spinach/mushroom/onion. Or chicken, tuna or shrimp with salad. I try to eat one big salad a day - lunch or dinner- packed with veggies and use apple cider vinegar with dressing. I'll eat almost a whole bag of steamfresh veggies (no sauce!) with beef, chicken, turkey burger or fish/shrimp. PM snack- Jello TemptationsChicklate pudding or sugar free jello. If I have a hungy day, I'll have chicken broth- 2 pkts in a huge mug (Sodium free-add your own pinch of salt- I use garlic salt) Drink your water and take your vitamins and be sure to eat enough protein and veggies! Good luck!
