2009 - New York City Banded Together-Lapband Talk National Event
NYGMEN replied to CoachCher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would go. I'm in NY so it's no big deal for me to make it. -
Add me to the list.. As of today I am 20 weeks post op and have lost 100lbs as of today. 82 still to go but it feels great!!
-
I have been away from the forums for a few weeks(work) Congrats and keep up the great work. You are walking into a whole new world. Enjoy it!! You are there to stay and it's just going to get even better...

So i was banned on 1/25/08 and have been happy so far. But I have not had ANY soda or beer since. I don't really want soda, I'm happy with Propel and CL. But i would love to have a beer from time to time. I hear a number of reasons for not having it. From the gas will do something to the band to it hurts if you try and drink it. So has anyone had a tap beer and if so how has it been?

As of Friday I'm 15 weeks post op and as of today I have hit my 1/2 way mark of 91Lbs lost. It has slowed a lot in the last few weeks but I just may be getting over the hill with 91 down and 91 to go!!!!:biggrin:

Thanks, Everyone... Long way to go but it feels good to come so far and feel that "hey, This time i'm going to make it". As far as a reward, I'm going to wait till I hit 150 lost (I hope) and there is a harley with my name on it:biggrin:.( But don't tell my wife )

Same here. On my 4th now. Not going back for six weeks now.
-
Congrats to EVERYONE!!!! What a great job!! God this still feels like it's so far away... I hope to join the group soon...

luluc, That was not at you. The first poster was talking about how bad it was for you. I was just posting about that. But I'm sure Dr's have there reasons for doing it both ways. Also, Yes I'm a Giants Fan.. Wait the World Champ New York Giants!!!!

I had to do it for two weeks and lost 30lbs. Before you tell me how it's not good for you.. I was taking in 1500-1600cal/day and 60g of protein a day. felt fine and don't think it's a bad thing. If anything it got me kick started and made the first two weeks post op less of a shock to my body.

Cherly, I also was banded at NYU. Dr. Fielding did mine and they are great there. I had the same feelings the first two or three days but they pass. Just keep walking. As far as eating goes, I can eat just about anything i want and have never gotten sick(almost). For some reason since being banded I find I have more will power. Like I said I can eat just about anything but just don't want to anymore. Maybe it was the feeling I had when I came home and said to myself that i'm going to make this work and I didn't so all this for nothing or maybe it's just the band giving me that little something more I needed to get the job done this time. What ever it is, I want you to know I felt the same way you did two days after and now 10 weeks or so I feel the band is one of the best things I ever did for myself and I'm sure 10 weeks down the road you will feel that too. Congrats!!

Don't even think about not making it... Just keep going!!! You can do it!!!! I was banded on 1/25..

Any good ones in the NYC Metro area?

I had my 3rd fill last Monday and I can tell you it was the first time i really knew my band was there. Now I feel it all the time. But for the first 8 weeks (other then week one) I was running on will power and diet. They have to work together and as long as you try as hard as you can. You and the band can help each other. It is a life change and I can see I will still have to diet if I want to keep going, even with the band but the band will help with it. Hang in there and remember how bad you want it. I remember when I was in the recovery room after getting my band and I said to my self that there is NO WAY i did this for nothing and I remember that everytime it gets hard. YOU CAN DO IT....

Good luck with everything.. Your going to do great!! See you on the other side with you nice new band....

How did your doctors feel about you getting a Gastric Band?
NYGMEN replied to sphynxmomma's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor was all for it. He has been great. Neve once said a bad think about it. I have had a number of neck and disk problems and he said he thought getting it would help them 1000% and he was right. I have a long way to go but already my neck and back don't give me 10% of the pain they did. Every step of the way he has been there and was great about it. -
I was banded by Dr. Fielding on 1/25. He was great and NYU Hospital was great. I'm down 62lbs so far and couldn't have seen myself going anywhere else for it.

I was banded by Dr. Fielding on 1/25/08. I have two family members (one the band and the other the bypass) both done by him. His office is nuts and ALWAYS busy, But the care is great and you are in great hands with him. I would go back to him in a NY minute. His office is on the 10th Floor at NYU Med center. ( 1st and 33rd or there abouts)

For those who were banded around the 25th
NYGMEN replied to rakes4321's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded in 1/25 and was just given the green light on Monday to do anything i want. I have been on the bike so far but I joined the gym and will be stepping it up soon. -
Hope you have a GREAT trip... It was 16 in NYC last night so you picked a good time to go.

Doctor says eating too few calories...????
NYGMEN replied to Banded08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would have to say that is true. Right after i was banded i was also only eating 500-600 a day and doing 5 - 10 miles on the bike but not really dropping anything. Then my doctor told me to eat more. I thought about it and when i was on the pre-op diet i was taking in 1500-1600 a day and dropping a lot. I did what the doctor said and i started to lose again and have been doing good ever since. -
Thanks guys!!

So i have to take a flight from NY to FLA and back the same day (later this week). I would leave NY @ 6am and stay in FLA all day then fly back at 10pm. It's a 2 1/2 hour flight each way. Does anyone think this would be a problem 4 weeks post op. I also got my 2nd fill today.
-
I never had to get them on the phone but I didn't get my approval till 2 days before. Have you doctors office keep calling but i wouldn't worry yet. My doctors office told me that UHC waits till the last minute...

I'm officially in bandster hell. Help!
NYGMEN replied to SuzanneG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I go for my 2nd fill on Monday and again I'm holding on till then. I had my first fill two weeks ago but it didn't do much. I think the 2nd fill should. I can't wait to feel almost like i did when i first got banded. I would eat and be full for hours.
