March Sleevers Where are You
Linda 66 replied to GrannyGoes4it's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
March 19th here-Lutheran Medical Center, New York w/ Dr. ferzli. Time to start my press-op diet. My nerves are SHOT!!!! -
Hi~ I will be sleeved March 19 and I was wondering what did you say to your children prior to surgery? I know most of us are nervous wrecks prior to any surgery and one of the biggest worries is *God forbid something happens, what is the last thing I say to my kids...besides I love you? * I've had quite a few surgeries in my past (lapband, plastic surg) and always give them a big loving see you later but now they are older 25 yo (which I got under control she understands). My 12 & 13 yr old daughter don't know I'm having the surgery YET. I really don't want them thinking/worrying about it now since its 2 months away. I just want to them to understand that i need this and not to think I'm selfish. What did you say?? Even as far as God forbid these were your last words? Am I the only nut that worries about this??

What did you tell your children?
Linda 66 replied to Linda 66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm the OP and wanted to sit back and see the feedback on my question. I do like the "letter" idea. I did this 7 yrs ago when i went to Costa Rica for a body lift alone. I left notes for each of my kids in my night stand. I forgot all about this but I will write some notes...even though I know things will be fine. It really is a good idea. Thank you for the reminder -
sorry I've been away. Just put isopure dutch chocolate in your search engine. it'll give you any online sites that carry it and can tell you where you can get it in your area also. 50 gms of protein!!

I'm a former lap bander (successful). Now 2 yrs w/out my band I'v gained 120+ . I was feeling like sht and started going to drs because of aches in joints and no energy, breathless, yadda yadda. So in sept My dr suggested bariatric surgery to me again. I was really surprised that he did...to me that meant, you need it! So I ran with it...because I guess i needed someone to give me that push ( I was afraid to do such an invasive surgery). So that's alittle history of me. In September I decided to have the surgery, saw my surgeon. I already had all of my tests done just because I was feeling so crappy. So December 5th I signed my consent and Monday 12/17 it was approved..YAYYYYY!! But guess what...January 1st my insurance changes from Oxford to BCBS so now in January all my documents have to be sent to this new insurance company and see if THEY approved me :/ My dr is going away for the holidays so no chance for surgery in Dec. And I'm booked for a cruise in February so it's javing surgery in January wont be good because its to close to my family vacation (who knows how I'll feel). I'm dissssgusttttedddddd!!

Hi I'm pre-op but a former (successful) lapbander. I can't offer much info on protein shakes because I only tryed/used one right after my lapband was put in. I used isopure low carb dutch chocolate. I used it differently than it suggests. Instead of using 12 oz of water and 2 scoops of isopure, I put 6 oz of skim milk into a blender and 2 scoops of isopure. Honestly, it wasnt bad at all. was kind of like chocolate milk that we used as kids (with the powder not syrup). I actually just looked up the isopure I used. I'm trying to figure out if this meets the requirements of the protein. I there too many calories, sugar, carbs?? does anyone know what the intake should be of all this??

Having surgery today12/18/12
Linda 66 replied to thensley820's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
God be with you and keep you safe! Have a perfect surgery, complication and pain free with success all around!! -
For me I like clean shaven men because 1. i don't like hair any other place than on a head and certain area of face. 2. if a person has hair under the arms after a shower(even w/ anti perspirant/deodorant )it can smell funky, this being said, hair traps smells from sweat and such. W/out hair, fresher & cleaner and that is jusy MY opinion. That goes for ladies area too. Though some like to argue the fact that hair is there to lessen bacteria from getting into your privates...I'd still shower, shave/wax and take my chances. Happy Sexing!!

What's the "milk diet"?

okay, I gotta ask....why can't you trust a fart? Do ppl sht themselves w/ the sleeve? Is this only post op? Why, why, why? OmG, this is a scary thought lol

I had the band put in 2003 and had it removed in 2010. It's now 2 yrs later and I've gained all my weight back since the band was removed and now wanting the sleeve. I did lose all my weight with the band but it slipped w/out me knowing. I'm waiting on my sleep study now but all my other tests are completed. I'm afraid too...I think we all are, surgery isn't an easy thing. I honestly don't know anything about the *sizing* of the sleeve :/

Best of luck to you on a safe and successful surgery!!

Anyone Else Willing To Share Their Reasons For Having Surgery?
Linda 66 replied to lovex5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
*over all I want to feel better~winded after walking up steps or down the block, Joint pains, high colesterol, high blood pressure, shortness of breath *I want to have energy back~ My weight makes me lazy *I don't want to feel embaressed for my kids cause their mom is fat (they don't care but I do) *I want to stop hiding~I avoid going to the mall, visiting friends, going to parties...basically doing anything that involves other people because I'm ashamed/embaressed of what I look like now. *Shop at "normal" stores *feel hot/sexxi again *I want to excercise...I never want to take my body for granted again! -
Ex lapbander here~I had the band put in 2003 lostll my excess weight and had it removed in 2010 due to slippage I gained all my weight back (120lbs). So now 2 yrs later after the removal of the band, I'm looking for the sleeve. I went yesterday and spoke to the nurse coordinator at my surgeons office. She did say she really liked the sleeve but when I told her what meds and Vitamins I'm taking (B-12 was when she looked at me) I have very low b-12 and take b-12 sublinquel 5000 u.i. on saturdays and sundays only. She told me...."the sleeve cuts away the part of the stomach that absorbs (i guess) b-12 and being I am already low in B-12 perhaps the sleeve isn't a good choice for me". Now, I won't be seeing my surgeon till October so I will question him on this. A Has anyone here ever heard of this and if so, what is done if this is the case?? Thanks!

Congrats on the surg and feeling "great"! I'm still pre op and hear so musch about the nausea after surgery...why is that?? I HAD the lapband (now removed) and after surgery I never had nausea...hmmmm. Well, continued health, success & happiness!!

Was Approved For Surgery!
Linda 66 replied to TaraBugz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hooorayyyy, Congrats!!! Here's to a safe surgery and a healthier happier life!! -
Off Topic, but I'm surprised and now curious.... I spoke w/ a bariatric nurse coordinator today and she said the sleeve is not reversible (I KNEW this), the lapband is removable (been there done that) BUT, what I DIDN'T know (and I was told years ago, it wasn't) was that the gastric BYPASS is reversible! Really?! Is this true?! I have to read up on this because Yrs ago (when I was banded) I was told, "the gastric bypass was irreversible". Was this nurse wrong or has things changed?? btw...I hope everyone is well/healthy/successful!

Do You Need To Do 6 Month Wait If Had The Band?
Linda 66 replied to Linda 66's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well I went to the surgeon today and he said that the insurance company requires the 6 month wait period. I had about 95% of the testing done already I just hope my regular m.d. will write in that I've been seeing him (i have been for the past few month for blood pressure and b-12 shotsbut not for a diet log) if he does enter that i been seeing him at lease 2 months that'll be 4 months left. If not...6 more months of this wait...suxsssssss :/ -
Do You Need To Do 6 Month Wait If Had The Band?
Linda 66 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my band for yrs and had it removed because it slipped. I'm not sure if it eroded but I was a pretty sick lady. My surgeon said he'd never replace the band on me but if i was to gain (I was thin from the band) back the pounds he would sleeve or do bypass. I'd say it's 2 yrs later and I gained it back. Insurance requirments for sleeve is to do the 6 month diet log thing. Here's my question....If I was already banded, do you think I'd have to do the 6 month wait...did you have to after the removal of your band??? I recently had so many other tests (stress, endo, labs, ultrasound) that I'm not worried about having to wait around for tests, I'm just concerned about the 6 month wait....do ex bandsters have to endure this again??? Be well and successful!! Thanks for any/all 411 -
