Weight gain, insurance, no support, I just need to VENT!
SpaceDust replied to TinaM8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just a note that cheating the glucose test probably won't help - if they don't already check your A1c as part of the blood test, they would certainly do another panel and check it if you came back with wacky high glucose, and since the A1c is essentially a look at your average glucose levels over the last 3 months (more or less - I'm simplifying) it would be pretty obvious that you deliberately blew the test. Not that anyone was seriously considering doing this, but still... -
Mine was pretty straightforward: a brief questionnaire and then about 40 minutes of talking. Pixie, I didn't have to draw anything I got the green light.

Anyone planning to do the deed in July?
SpaceDust posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have an official date yet, but it looks like it will be mid-late July if all goes well with the insurance. Anyone else looking at having this summertime fun? -

*sticks a head through the doorway, followed by the rest of her* Ugh, Westboro Baptist "Church"! I wish that unicorns would go fart rainbows all over their compound. Maybe if they find the end of the rainbow they can collect a pot of CLUES. They clearly need some to relieve their unremitting asininity. *exits the room muttering something about you can teach the ignorant but you can't fix just plain STUPID*

Other nut butters / powdered
SpaceDust replied to Evolving's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Journeygrl, I think Fred Meyer in Monroe has at least the plain sort in their health food section so you may find it in a Freddies close to where you are. Regardless, you can order both the PB2 and the PB2 with chocolate through Amazon, or from their site at bellplantation.com - I think it's cheaper at their site. -
Your surgeon is correct that this hasn't been a standalone procedure for long enough to have 10-year data. However, as someone else mentioned, the procedure itself has been around as step one of the duodenal switch surgery since the late 80s, if I recall correctly. There are probably studies related to its use as a first stage restrictive procedure. There are studies that go out five years, though, and more coming in every day. I'm very confident in my decision that this surgery is the route for me. I have far too many friends and acquaintances who have had bands which were either limited in success or resulted in problems - probably about 50% of those I know, in fact. Bypass, as you and others have said, is just too extreme for me to agree to for the rest of my life. The sleeve isn't perfect, but it's the best option for me.

General surgeon label on bariatric surgeons?
SpaceDust replied to VSG4aHealthierMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And don't forget to ask here, if you haven't already. You never know - someone here may have used the surgeons you're researching and didn't particularly call it out. There are regional forums as well as the main groups. -
Keep in mind that you CAN deseed tomatoes if you want the flavor. I do it all the time if I don't want a lot of liquid in something but want that tomato flavor. Definitely stick with your NUT/dr. guidance, though!

I hurt my husband's feelings
SpaceDust replied to roriep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugh, I've had thrush once. Don't wanna go there again. Take care of yourself, roriep. -
Ahh, but we all know inner cuteness when we see it, Tyson! It's there, just waiting to become more obvious to the rest of the world! And congrats on getting started on this journey young - you'll have so much time ahead of you to enjoy the results!

Didn't think you were I'm not the easily offended type, so I'm up for being teased now and again!

I hurt my husband's feelings
SpaceDust replied to roriep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
EDITED: What I wrote made some assumptions that may not have been fair to your husband. If he did ask you if it was okay and you said yes, then maybe it wasn't very fair of you to say he didn't care. Evil? No. But probably not the right thing to do. Either way, you still need to talk to him. Make sure he knows you were just blowing off steam and you didn't really mean he didn't care. Good luck. -
Yeah, I know, I was blind, and I saw it after I posted. It wasn't enough of a faux pas for me to go back and edit

Other nut butters / powdered
SpaceDust replied to Evolving's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interesting. I know that almonds are generally better, but when I talked about PB2, my NUT was fine with it as long as I don't have an allergy (which I don't, of course). Always in moderation, of course - but it's kind of a nice addition to a chocolate protein shake on occasion. -
How To explain away my scars?
SpaceDust replied to bigchange's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Joatsaint: There ya go! That oughta do it. Back to the more serious original topic: BigChange - just keep reminding yourself that just because someone is nosy enough to ask doesn't mean you have to tell anything you don't want to. I think a lot of the answers that have been provided are good ideas. I generally don't recommend lying, as you then have to remember the lie or risk forgetting when someone mentions it. However, there's no issue at all with simply not giving all the info, or any at all if you choose not to. -
How long has it been since your surgery? Are you taking really small sips? - I was specifically told that I will need to drink very slowly and with tiny sips at first. We're told to measure out an ounce and slowly sip that - that's how small.

That far out, I'd definitely call and talk to my doctor. Let us know what the outcome is...

Anyone using NWWS Everett?
SpaceDust replied to journeygrl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I want to hear about it afterward, if you don't mind. Mine won't be until June, but I'm getting antsy and just want to know exactly what I have left in detail. I know, I'm weird, but it's how I cope best. -

How To explain away my scars?

So, depends on how you define "woman issues," now, doesn't it? Could be a woman you know went wacko and she (and her knife) were an issue for you... Just sayin' -
First time meeting restriction, it is awful!
SpaceDust replied to Amanda626's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, the good news is that now you're reassured that you are restricted. Now, don't forget to slow down and take time to eat right I suspect I'll end up doing that at least once when I get sleeved, too - my days tend to be somewhat hectic, so I'll need to be sure and carve out time for meals and insist on them. How does everyone deal with the hectic factors of life in the 21st century? -

I'd think you'd be used to the funny looks from the guys at work by now, then! Isn't that the new normal?
