  1. ... except when it's not! Okay, this is a pre-sleeve NSV for me. We went to the movie theater tonight. I actually managed to walk right past the concessions stand without stopping for either a popcorn (large, extra butter, please!) or a beverage! This is difficult for me. Recently I've been compromising - small popcorn, and a large unsweetened iced tea (now that our theater actually has decent iced tea!). But I LURVE buttered popcorn. It's something that I really want to eat - it's part of the movie experience, and it is something I have a weakness for. Tonight, I wasn't hungry as we had just had dinner, nor was I thirsty. I also knew I couldn't come back out later and get it if I changed my mind, since we were going to the late show and the concessions area closes about 15 minutes after the last movie starts. I just said no. Didn't even really think about it. Me: 100 points, Food: a big fat ZERO. I win! Anyone else had a victory in the battle of resistance this week?

  5. To those who are posting their less than stellar experiences: Believe me, most of us who are pre sleeve need to hear your journey as well. There is rarely a one size fits all solution to any health issue, and we need to hear the ugly as well as the good to make informed decisions. We hear you and take your experiences into account as well, even if we decide the risks are worth it and move forward with our plans to have the surgery. Please continue to post. It does matter.     You might try a moderate walking pace on a treadmill till you talk to the doc unless even that takes you pretty high as well. That way you could at least get some exercise and stay in your routine of going to the gym at lunch. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using VST

    Food Network / Cooking Channel

    I'm another one who watches a fair number of food related shows, especially on the Food Network and the Cooking Channel. Recently I've also started watching The Chew on ABC. For me, it's generally not food porn. It really is about getting ideas of fabulous flavors that I can take and make my own. I rarely follow recipes exactly (except for baking, which I don't do often), but sometimes I'm bored with the same old roasted chicken or slow cooker Beans and want to shake flavors and textures up a bit. I don't think that a healthy lifestyle means I can't still be a foodie. It just means that every small bite that I'll be able to eat must pack nutritional punch as well as flavor payoff, and I need to keep tabs of how each bite fits into the plan so I stay on track. Luckily, the food shows don't seem to be a trigger to eat for me. Maybe it's because of timing - I tend to watch at times where I've just eaten. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using VST

    I weigh every day. I even weigh more than once in a day on occasion because I'm interested in how my weight fluctuates as I go through the day and the week. Plus, I'm another one who would be far more freaked out if I weighed myself once a month and saw a slight gain than if I'd been keeping an eye on it all month. It all depends on your needs; there's no one right way.. Don't let the scale rule you, but chose the best way to keep the stress minimized and still hold yourself accountable and stay on track.
