What does being heavy have to do with getting engaged?? NOTHING! Is he suggesting just because you are you don't deserve to be engaged? That's crap....wonder what else he thinks you aren't worthy of? I'd be re-examining the last 7 yrs of my life..life is short, don't waste any more time on someone who chooses to focus on the "outside" of a person instead of what really counts

Hurry Up Aleady....feb. 2013
AStephenson replied to Diamondeyed's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I've made lists on top of lists! LOL I don't talk about it much with my husband, as he is not supportive of me going to Mexico to have it done, but some days I can't help but drop some one-liners, like when we were out eating the other day I asked him if it bothered him for me to watch him eat because after my surgery I would doing a lot of that. I've been dealing with a weight problem for way too long as well, more than half my life. I want free from this burden I have been carrying, so tired of dragging it around and having it hold me back. I have always focused on others before myself and sometimes don't feel like I deserve spending this time and money on me. My biggest drive for this is the thought of feeling like I presently do for 20-30, maybe even 40 more years to come or undoubtedly worse as my health declines. I am more afraid of that than the thought of dying whilst attempting to change that. I know it will be hard..I know I may even woe the day I decided to do this, but I've got to try. "I HOPE" is my modus operandi -
I'm 5'2 And I Don't Know What My Goal Weight Should Be .......
AStephenson replied to LHT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey thanks for asking this question LHT..I'm 5'1 and I was wondering myself. And Pinky...that chart is cool, I did the frame measurement and found out I'm average framed, not large framed like I always thought I was because my ankles seemed extra "sturdy" even when I was thinner. -
Hurry Up Aleady....feb. 2013
AStephenson replied to Diamondeyed's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I hear ya!! I've been bad and shopping for things I think I'll need for my surgery and immediately afterward instead of xmas gifts for the family. I can't focus on anything else. Seems a little dangerous to wish away so many days of my life until my surgery date but I'm so ready to be on the other side and losing -
I'm not holding out much hope that my arms will shape up after losing weight. They are terrible now as it is, lots of stretch marks in the skin, no matter how hard I work out. Plus the women on both sides of my family have "bat wings" so I fear I'm doomed to keep them. I've been researching surgery.....

Hi Jules...are you fresh out of surgery? I'm not sleeved yet but I think that gurgling sensation you are describing may be because of the swelling of your sleeve, which everyone has right after surgery. I've watched several different people's leak tests under flouroscopy (sp?) and the fluid definitely looks like it has to work it's way around some nooks and crannies, not a "straight shot" at all!

Dr Ariel Ortiz- November
AStephenson replied to ksgirlmomof4's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thank you Jordan1923...I was already worrying about her being all alone...plus she's a smoker (she thinks I don't know) and I was worried about her being outside smoking at night. I probably wouldn't have...but someone posted a link to some really scary stories about rapes/kidnaps from even all inclusive resorts by maintenance or security men. She kinda stands out from the crowd with her big bust and fiery red hair. Just me being mom I guess, but I know she wont stay locked away in her room like I told her too! LOL -
Dr Ariel Ortiz- November
AStephenson replied to ksgirlmomof4's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi Christyp...I am scheduled in Feb next year. I was told any companions will be shuttled to the hotel after "visiting hours" are over at the hospital. They will then be shuttled back the following morning. No overnite companions I guess! Please let me know if this changes cause my 21yr old daughter will be my traveling companion and I'm worried about her being by herself in a hotel room. -
I feel the same way...I've been doing a little of both. Some days I am very mindful of what and how I eat, even trying not to drink with my meals, and sometimes having just a protein shake. Then there are the days that I eat anything and everything in sight in twos! I think that if we can gradually get a handle on it by the time our pre-op diet comes around it won't be such a shock. That's just me though, and I have a sneaky suspicion my overindulgent days are fueled by my old habits not wanting to die, being lazy or both!

I Got A Clot In Lungs :-(
AStephenson replied to alisha29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear this, hope you get past this quickly. Blood clots are a big fear I have after surgery as well, and especially not knowing if I have one and getting it treated in time before it kills me! So glad you caught it in time. Feel better.. -
Shrinking Sizes- Clothes Idea
AStephenson replied to Pumpkinmeli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I plan on going to goodwill during my losing phase. Also have a really nice consignment shop that I'm thinking about taking some of my nicer stuff that doesn't fit me. Hoping to trade in or get store credit so I can swap out for things that fit! -
I agree with Frza...you do looks years younger! Congrats on your weight loss, awesome job!

Fun And Maybe Some Laughs
AStephenson replied to tami88's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Not going to miss my double chin, rubbing thighs and feeling like I'm dragging concrete blocks around. Super excited about finally getting my weight under control, feeling light and energized, and learning what it is to have confidence. -
A Technical Question : Healing Of Stomach Tissue Together
AStephenson replied to Rootman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm no doctor or nurse but worked many years in the veterinary field. Maybe it can be compared to some of the bone growth I have seen first hand after horrible fractures that were pinned and wired but still had big chunks missing. Open voids....and amazingly, the body filled them in with new bone! Can't put it in any fancy terms, but I think the stomach wants to try to return to as normal a state as it can, and will form a tissue "bridge" over the injured area. I remember reading somewhere that after a while the staples will even be covered over. -
Oh boy, I feel ya! I'm not even sleeved yet but I know how hard it is to decide what the hell to cook and eat. It's especially hard when you're not even hungry and NOTHING sounds good. Sorry I don't have any suggestions, but I hope you discover something soon to get you through this. Good luck!

I have trouble dealing with anger as well. When I am most angry I feel compelled to move something...be it myself thru pacing in a circle or stomping away or really losing it and throwing, smashing, or kicking inanimate objects. I've also attempted to get rid of anger or resentment by eating, and LOTS of it. This makes me feel worse afterward, I mean..who am I getting back at?? What problem does this solve? Only hurting myself.... I realized a few years ago that I "eat" my feelings....loneliness, sadness, boredom, disappointment, anger, resentment....just swallow it down. I have been working on changing that, even more so now that my surgery date is approaching. I have been a journaling person off and on for a great part of my life and plan on doing that more in hopes it will be a healthier outlet for my feelings. CE has some great suggestions! I hope you and I both can find happier and healthier ways to deal with our anger.

Sleep Apnea Test...anything That Might Make Sleep Apnea Worse?

My husband has this and when he is overly tired or had lots to drink (alcohol) it makes it worse. -
Has Any One Tried Mozzarella Sticks After Surgery
AStephenson replied to drelex210's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are we talking about the OH-SO-YUMMY battered, deep-fried mozzarella sticks?? Not sleeved yet, but I would think they may cause a problem because of the grease. The non-battered, cold cheese sticks on the other hand..I've seen lots of folks say they eat them with no problems. Just have to experiment I guess, go slow and chew, chew, chew! Personally, I'd be afraid to try because I can't imagine myself eating the fried, gooey ones SLOW!! LOL Good luck! -
What? Why So Confusing
AStephenson replied to Heyher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never even made it that far. My insurance (Anthem BCBS of Ohio) policy had an exclusion for anything weightloss. I got a very flat and resounding "NO". In a way I think it was a blessing in disguise as I feel I saved myself lots of time and headaches by deciding to pay for it myself. I am scheduled in February with Dr. Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center in Tijuana, Mexico. Don't give up..even if insurance refuses again there are other options! -
