4 months out and sleeve seems tighter
AStephenson replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seems I read somewheres on here about "priming the sleeve"??? Maybe you could research that? What I got from it was that instead of having yogurt or a protein drink for breakfast, eat something more dense (if you are at that stage) and it will help you to be able to eat more later in the day. Just a thought.... -
gastric sleeve vs. sleeve plication
AStephenson replied to buffythefatslayer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I posted about this last week and just talked to my surgeon (who does both) yesterday. His recommendation to me was....If I had diabetes or a family history of diabetes, or a higher BMI, go with the sleeve. If I didn't have any diabetes or as much weight to lose, or thought I could be more strict with myself and put more effort in on my own (meaning relying less on my tool and more on myself) then go with the plication. He said in his experience the weight loss has been comparable, but again..it really is up to the individual and how much work you put in after surgery. I know no one wants to hear that, including myself. -
That's what I got too, proudgrammy

Ohio Sleevers And Mexico...
AStephenson replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been going back and forth with my patient coordinator for the last half an hour trying to get connected with Dr. Ortiz for questions. Sounds like he is buzzing around like a mad man! LOL...everytime the phone rings my heart starts pounding!! I don't usually feel like this unless I'm about to stand up and speak in public! Hope I don't lose my voice like I usually do when that happens....all he will hear is squeaks!! -
Wavering...sleeve or plication?
AStephenson posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay...I'm being a wussy. I'm scheduled to be sleeved in a little over five weeks and wondering if I'm choosing the right surgery. I've been comfortable with the thought of being sleeved for months, but now I'm coming up with all these doubts about the long term effects of ghrelin deficiency. I've read about sleevers being cold, having trouble with memory/concentration, changes in sleep patterns and a few days ago read a study that linked ghrelin to our ability to handle stress better. I want to be healthier and feel better, not FREEZING, MORE ADDLE-BRAINED, SLEEP DEPRIVED, and ANXIOUS and setting myself up for even more negative effects that aren't even known yet!! So...plication. Basically a sleeve without removing any stomach, thus preserving ghrelin, awesome, right? Well I'm not so sure...I can barely find anything about it, but what I have isn't very promising. Unsatisfactory weight loss, horrible hunger and cravings, and the unfortunate complication of your stomach rotting away inside you due to blood flow restriction. Yikes! Back and forth I go, over and over....someone ****** me up and shake some sense in to me, PLEASE!! -

Thanks for replying Bos123...I'm glad to hear you are doing well. It's just dang hard to do the research to make an informed choice when there isnt much to be found, or at least I haven't found it yet! LOL -

Wavering...sleeve or plication?
AStephenson replied to AStephenson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi KK...I've read some studies about ghrelin playing a part in body temp regulation. Granted these have all been done with mice/rats...but there is a link. Other folks have attributed being newly cold to their weightloss and losing "insulation". Not sure I agree with that one, as I have plenty of fluff and freeze all the time in the winter! My "insulation" only seems to work in the summer, and I sweat like a burly man (hope I havent offended any burly men reading)! LOL -

Wavering...sleeve or plication?
AStephenson replied to AStephenson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your response, and humor! I tend to overthink a lot of things, and more often than not it leads to inaction on my part. I bog myself down...don't want to do it in this case with my surgery! I just need to STOP! LOL -

Yes, Brit...I've been doing a lot of "hmmmmm" lately! LOL...I'm back on board with the sleeve. I emailed my patient coordinatior and the fact that even she suggested I stick with it over plication says a lot to me. Thanks for commenting, everyone! -
Does Splenda hinder weight loss?
AStephenson replied to nck12nicholspd's topic in Food and Nutrition
I've tried diff brands of stevia...I like "Truvia" brand the best, but I don't think it's just stevia, I think it has xylitol in it too. I also use splenda quite a bit, even the one with added fiber, and like both. Not sure of carb count...honestly I've never checked! -
Hi Jesser..I'm Feb. 18th...already have my passport card, supplements, and some liquids and proteins stocked up. Waiting on my flight tickets as I have to wait for my tax refund to pay part of my fee as well. Don't want to get tickets now then worry about getting dates changed. I hope this doesn't bite me in the a#$ and my tickets end up being outrageous. First time dealing with it so I just don't know
