SuNMooNStaRS816 replied to MumtazG38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This study is about gastric bypass but it shows the surgery done earlier has more benefits. http://asmbs.org/2012/06/low-bmi-diabetes-surgery/ -
Lightweights in the house! Any more people with less to lose/less BMI's?
SuNMooNStaRS816 replied to MumtazG38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are study after study that shows that WLS is more beneficial if done earlier...meaning at a lower BMI. I don't agree with gastric banding due to the foreign body, constant follow up, and the growing number of complications, but some surgeons are doing it even in the US at a BMI of 30 due to the studies. In other countries they are already doing VSG at BMI of 30. Hopefully the US will follow soon with insurance covering it. We all should be very aware of all possible complications. Then make the best decision for ourselves and our families or loved ones. VSG will help you to lose your weight. But it won't do all the work for you. It's just the tool to help us. We will still have to do some hard work, following the diet and progressing under DR's orders. The dreaded exercise is still necessary. It's a lifestyle change we all have to be willing to make to get the FULL benefit. You can do as much or as little with it as you see fit. Even low BMIers can lose all their wgt if you do the work. -

Depends in how much money you wanna spend. There are a lot of great docs in Mexico. I have met ppl on here and actually know a few ppl who have had the procedure in Mexico. There are a few Doc's in the states that do it for 10000. In Mexico you can have it done from 4600 to 9000+. -

Can you imagine what the benefit would be to healthcare costs alone if they did this surgery earlier? Astronomical....I believe in the future there will be a move to do this sooner than later. But more than that. The benefit to diabetics who lose their limbs because their diabetes is so out of control or lose their sight. Or the patient with hypertension or cardiac disease. What if this surgery done sooner prevents that? Isn't that worth a chance to have this surgery. And whether ppl realize it or not. Low BMI patients can be just as sick as higher BMI patients. We all should of course do all the research and know all the possible complications....then make our own choice.....what is best for us....only we can know that....and shouldn't fear being called names.

From reading her previous posts she was a revision patient. Lost some wgt with band for a year and I believe had complications which lead to revision. Then lost the remainder with her sleeve.....but all that is just from reading her previous post. Second hand info. The poor OP has not even chimed back in.....guess all back and forth ran her off. I do apologize if you (the OP) didn't feel supported. That should b our main goal here.....

This forum usually is very supportive...I love coming here because it is normally a pick me up. OP- some believe if you are not morbidly obese you don't deserve to have this surgery. So you get post like these. Because that attitude opens a big can of worms. This is a very serious surgery which I am sure you have realized because you have been through it. We don't know what your situation was. But you have most of our support. And at this point in your maintenance I agree...exercise with a strength training component would work. And if you can't get the results you are looking for plastics is always an option...great work so far and I am sure you will be a great success in your maintenance phase. Hope all the petty going back and forth doesn't scare you off because this really is an awesome supportive group.

Oh yeah and again this forum is supposed to be for support....

It's definitely not cosmetic surgery....but we don't know everyone's mindsets. We aren't in there shoes. I wouldn't have the surgery myself for 30 some lbs, but that's me. I just want every potential poster whether in research phase or post op or veteran to know that we are here for them, because you know this not an easy road. I do believe tough love works at times, But you gotta pick your battles. The OP has had her surgery and deserves support even though some may not agree or understand. Just my opinion...but you know what they say about those....lol.....peace out!!!!

^^^^^WOW,,,,kinda judgmental. It's awesome the op has reached their goal. Maybe if some of us had gotten this surgery earlier we wouldn't be in the shape we are in now....we are all here for the same reason, right? Support.....

Girl don't take that crap....from the one person who is supposed to support you. You need to surround your self with your real supporters and ditch dead weight.....pun intended. -

Gastric Sleeve In Guadalajara Mexico
SuNMooNStaRS816 replied to Nelly1828's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Each person will give you a different opinion...I myself preferred to do the surgery in a tourist destination. And honestly,,,anywhere you have your surgery in Mexico they take really good care of you....and unless you want to you never have to go anywhere unaccompanied by a support person from Dr. Lopez's service or any surgeon. So the best advice would be to research the Doctor and make your choice based on that not necessarily the location. And tell your dad it wont matter where you go if you pic the wrong surgeon.....PV, Guadalajara, Tijuana, Cancun, or USA. And also do a Lil more research in the states if he is really that scared of you going to MEXICO. There is a doc in Decatur TX that some one on here that said they paid between 7000 and 8000 for there sleeve. And in Louisiana there is a doc that does it for 9000. So just research and pic your doctor and hopefully your dad will agree and be comfortable. Because ultimately the DOC is the most important choice not the location.
