Do You Think This Is Sleeve Dumping?
Skittle replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like dumping to me! Some will say with sleeve you cannot have dumping, but yes you can!! I really have to watch what I eat. If I can see the grease/fat/oil on it, I try to stay away from it. For me it takes a little more than 2 bites... well.. a little more time that is. I had a small piece of my fiance's steak one time, and it was very very greasy. I felt fine until we were waiting on the check. For me it lasts about 30-45 minutes, then I feel fine. I have not yet had the diarrhea after(knock on wood). I hope to never have that problem. My doctor's nurse said that eventually it gets a little better... but not by much. Good luck!! -
It was tough for me to tell when I was full even after I started on solid foods. It would take 1 bite that would hurt for me to stop. I have finally figured out that when I start having very very small burps or start hiccuping that I know to stop. Yes a weird signal but I've heard several people on here say the same thing. From time to time I get the burps a little sooner than I think I should and try a few more bites.. But that's when it starts to hurt again so I trust the burps lol. It kinda feels like bubbles trying to escape. Hope this helps

Daily Goals--Need Some Input, Please.
Skittle replied to Texarkolina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc is a little less strict than others. I don't have a number to work toward on Protein or cals. I do have to eat protein first always. No drinking while eating.. Stay away from carbs etc. drink as much as possible. Same as everyone else. Early on 4-5 meals until you can eat a little more. I'll be 2 months on Thursday. I'm getting about 3 meals w 1 snack each day. Snack being a piece of string cheese or something healthy. Vitamins are a must. I don't have to drink Protein shakes or eat Protein Bars. My doc would rather have me eat more food than a shake. Hope that helps some -
Finally finally finally getting better!!! It's been about 6 weeks that I have been sick. The week before that was my surgery week. So I've been having a bit of a rough recovery. Luckily enough the illness had nothing to do with the surgery, just bad timing. Haven't weighed since last Saturday, will tomorrow morning though. Surgery Date: 8/9/12 Highest weight: 256 Surgery weight: 248 Last weight measured: 217.4 So glad I'm starting to feel normal again most of the time! Eating around others is still slightly weird. And grocery shopping with my fiancé is an adventure every time. Comment of the day: my fiancé says, "well, we only went over our budget by $10. Not bad because I will eat it all and you'll eat.... no you won't" We both got a good laugh out of it Good luck all!

Tell Me About Your Post Op Care?
Skittle replied to sramos89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My after care is not as intense as some of the others.. My last pre op appt the surgeon scheduled appts for 6 weeks 3 months and 6 months.. I was only on liquids AND puréed for 2 weeks then able to have anything as long as I chewed really well. I will have a 1 year appt but that will be scheduled at the 6 mo appt. You may want to call and ask or even call a different surgeon and explain the situation. I hope things go ok so that you don't need to go back to your surgeon but I'd be a little worried myself. -
The dry skin leads me to think it may be dehydration... But check with your surgeon to make sure it's not a medication.. If You haven't been getting enough fluids try to up your intake by like 8-16oz a day. I know it's hard, I still have major probs getting in all my water! Good luck to you and stay healthy!!

Nurse in recovery put me on my side with a pillow wedged under my stomach just an hour after surgery. It was more comfortable and less painful that way for me. I could stay like that pretty much all day but had to have the pillow. I was able to lose the pillow after about week 2. But only do what is comfortable... If it hurts don't do it!

I asked my doc that same question yesterday. He said that we still have all of our small intestines so absorption is not reduced, however, any chemical or Vitamin such as b12 that needs intrinsic factor will not absorb in the small intestine, therefore should be taken sublingually. I am not a doctor or a nurse, this is just what the doc told me. Your body is also burning up fat like crazy which will release different substances into your system. One of these substances I believe is estrogen which will play with your mood significantly. You are also adjusting to a new way of life, which even without the added substances, is very difficult to handle. I myself have been experiencing food mourning I think.. I want the food but I don't want to hurt or feel bad after so I stay away from it. Things WILL get better. It just takes that dreaded time we all have to wait on. Every one is different and maybe you will get over things more quickly than I have. Talk to your doc that prescribed the meds and see if there is anything they can do to help.

Hope For Second Year Sleevers
Skittle replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
O.D, I'm curious, please don't feel like you have to answer if you do not want to share. Have you gained much weight back? Or any? Where did you start and what is your current weight? Total weight loss? I ask because I'm afraid that I'm going to get the weight off then put it right back on after a few years of stretching the pouch. I know it can never be the size it was pre op but still the fear is there. I'm still a newbie at this and learn something new about my sleeve daily. But I don't want to start out on that slippery slope backward either. I get very down watching others eat. I sometimes wish I could eat that whole sandwich w turkey ham cheese bacon lettuce tomatoe and mayo but I know eating even 3 bites would probably make me sick. I still sometimes feel as if I'm going to be that one person who paid all this money and only be healthy for a couple years. SW: 256. DoS: 248. CW: 219. Total loss: 37 Date of surgery - Aug 9, 2012 -
Unfortunately this does happen to some of us.. Keep your surgeon up to date on the nausea and they can try to help you find a solution. You may also try sipping on something hot like coffee or peppermint tea(peppermint is good for nausea). I know it's hard but try to eat something dry in the mornings.. Crackers or dry crunchy Cereal to help keep stomach acid at bay. Stay away from milk.. If it doesn't affect you.. Stay away from it just in the mornings. My doc has me taking a phenegran just before bed and it seems to help a little. Keep taking the Prilosec or Prevacid routinely as excess acid can cause nausea. Some of us have figured out ways that work for our bodies but everyone is different. I'm still searching for my magical combination to help mine, but these are things my doc suggested to try. It will get better (everyone says it will). My doc also told me when I was having major troubles w getting liquids in, to try things like Gatorade... Yes it has calories but a few extra calories is better than dehydration. If the Protein shakes make it worse try a Protein Bar. Also make sure to chew chew chew! food that is not chewed well enough may try to come back up. Hope this helps! Good luck to you!

Wow sounds similar to my story except I also had a sinus infection and it was 10 days out. I don't mean to freak you out but I am still experiencing the nausea quite frequently every day. Went to surgeon and pcp today and both think the nausea is related to the coughing. I have also become lactose intolerant and it's much worse in the AM than any other time. Surgeon suggested crunching on some almonds or nuts about an hour to two hrs after getting up. That sometimes ppl get nausea from not having anything on your stomach. Also, are you taking Prevacid or Prilosec? That could be the prob- excess acid build up. I'm now on an anti nausea pill (phenegran) and hycosimine. But I still have trouble w liquids. I would def see your surgeon ASAP as well as ur primary care incase it's something else. Oh I almost forgot.. sugar free Popsicles work wonders from what I'm told. S

I'm a teacher and couldn't get scheduled until August 9th. Returned to school on august 20th. That was 10 days. The first week is a lot of meetings and such do quite a bit of sitting. It wasn't bad until I developed the sinus infection. I think I would have been just fine if the infection didn't screw things up. Good luck to you!

I went back to surgeon today. They were more concerned about the nausea and coughing than the shoulder pain. She did say that it was too far from surgery to have anything to do with that, however. They also think the coughing is what is causing the nausea and vomiting.. Ugh this is miserable!! I did go to my pcp also today and they prescribed cough meds with codeine.. Hopefully it will help.

6 weeks post op. have been fighting a sinus infection for the past month.. Still coughing like crazy and extremely hard to the point of pulling muscles in my side and throwing up. Nausea every day mostly mornings but does linger into afternoons especially when coughing a lot. And for the last 3 days my shoulders have hurt like the did when I first got out of sugery.. I'm thinking gas pains again but I don't know.. Anyone else revisit the gas pains several weeks out? I'm going to doc in AM so will ask then but was hoping I'm not alone... It's been a very very tough 6 weeks for me. Sorry for the poor grammar and punctuation.. iPhone's are not the easiest word entry devices.

I too can't seem to get milk down.. But I can handle cheese. I've read that milk is hard on your stomach so I bought some skim milk but I'm still afraid to try it. Hoping it gets better with time

Help I Think I'm Dumping
Skittle replied to ljperez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is not as common as with bypass but yes it does happen to a few of us unfortunate souls like me. I've had it about 5 times now in just over a month. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't understand what dumping syndrome is or what causes it. (my opinion) http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/dumping-syndrome/DS00715 -
Anyone Super Nauseous In Morning?
Skittle replied to DEZ1975's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so in the same boat!! Last 2 weeks I've been so nauseated! Doc thinks its cuz my stomach is empty but putting anything in my mouth makes it worse. Zofran doesn't work very well either -
Help I Think I'm Dumping
Skittle replied to ljperez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefully you will not have many more episodes like this. I have found several things that I can no longer have.. Including broccoli cheese Soup there are also several things I am afraid to try in fear of having dumping syndrome. Good luck!! -
Sleeved Aug. 9th. Down 34lbs. Have already had a sinus infection and quite a bit of nausea. Still have the nausea and working w doc to correct that. Hopefully I'll get more answers when I go back next week.

I had a bad sinus infection and my doc told me absolutely no day or NyQuil.. Instead she said Mucinex but not with a decongestant. She prescribed nasonex for that.

Nearly A Year And Fabulous!
Skittle replied to Miz Z1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sooo encouraging and inspiring!! I'm 5 weeks post op and have felt like I'm going to be the one who gets the surgery but doesn't lose the weight even though I haven't had a major stall yet!! I hope I'll be the one saying this a year from now!! Thank you do much for the post! -
Who Loses More Wt. Faster - Apples Or Pears?
Skittle replied to gottaloozit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think the weight loss depends on shape.. Everyone is different. It's more going to depend on activity level, metabolism how much you have to lose, and possibly age. I was sleeved on 8/9 and have lost 35 lbs... Someone else on here was sleeved the same day and had already lost over 50 lbs last week. There may be a difference on how your shape is affected but in my opinion shape really has nothing to do with how quickly or slowly you loose. -
1 Month Post And Nauseous All The Time
Skittle replied to Skittle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the encouragement!! Maybe when this cough gets better it will ease up! I've always had trouble eating in the morning.. I've only been able to get in maybe a third of what I can at lunch. I'm still not drinking enough. I haven't found anything I like and can tolerate. Everything has to be extremely cold and as soon as it warms up, I don't like it anymore. I use to love crystal light and tea sweetened w Splenda. Now it tastes too chemical. Fruit juices are too sweet.. Any suggestions on how I can get more in would be great... -
1 Month Post And Nauseous All The Time
Skittle replied to Skittle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's possible about the post nasal drip. I am still battling the cough after the sinus infection and it is mainly mornings that I am nauseous (no I'm not pregnant). I go in to doc next Thursday, so hopefully we can figure something out then. This is just one horrible feeling to deal w every day
