August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?
JSoc replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got sleeved 8/31. On surgery day I weighed 285 pounds. I am now at 234, down 51 pounds since surgery and 65 pounds overall. I am working out 4 times per week. I feel fantastic. I will be under 220 by Christmas. -
What up Jerseygirl?

My surgeon actually stitched and then glued the staple line.
-
I don't know anything about that glue except that my surgeon used it on me already. He also glued on top of my outer stitches. They were never itchy and when the glue fell off, my stitches had dissipated! Pretty cool. 28 days out, 34 pounds down since surgery, 47 since per op diet.

I typically burp and get bubbles as well.

Look into your local YMCA. Our neighborhood Y is 85 bucks per month for my wife, child, and I. they have 3 pools, 9 baseball fields, a pleather of soccer and football fields. They have organized sports for men, women, and children of all ages. This includes an indoor basketball court, full gym, personal training services, yoga, Zumba, spinning, and all sorts of awesome activities. I had my first personal training session today. It went great! I haven't done weights since high school! I am amazed at how I sweated. I always balked at weights because my diet was so bad. But now that I have limited intake, my plan is to get ripped!

I have been doing 30-60 minutes 4 - 5 times per week on the treadmill and/or elliptical. Tomorrow is the first appt with my new personal trainer. I am beginning an aggressive 6 day per week upper body workout. I will cut down to 15 -25 minutes of cardio and do more strength training. I will take it easy on the abs until I am a bit further out. However, I will still work on the waist.

Bad Eating And Gaining Weight Back:(
JSoc replied to katrina81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You mentioned you can eat anything. Do you feel restriction from your sleeve? -
Are you sure you are getting a nicotine test?
-
There is no uniformity in how this surgery is treated post op.
-
The surgeon took my drain out the day after surgery. Did you sleeve?
-
Hi all, I am 7 days out. Here is what I ate today: Breakfast 12 ounce Protein shake Snack 32 ounces of Water lunch 12 ounce Protein Shake Snack 2 laughing cow cheese wedges & 16 ounces of water dinner 2 ounces puréed turkey & 1 tblspn of retried Beans with a dash of melted cheese Snack 2 laughing cow cheese wedges & 16 ounces of water Total Calories 620 Total Protein 72 g Total Carbs 35 g Total Water 64 ounces (Dothe shakes count as liquid too?) I felt full after dinner. However, Does this seem like too much for 7 days out? Should I worry about having an oversized sleeve?

You hit the nail on the head doxieville. When I first read the post, I reacted and my reaction was fear. Then, I began my response which was researching the profile and really asking the comment at face value. No one should communicate that way. She gets sleeved on Monday 9/10. I wish her well.
-
There was a poster on here before that told main a another string "You ARE eating too much". When I looked at her profile, she had not been sleeved yet! I believe evryones tolerance will be a bit different. Everyones healing is probably different as well. If the weight loss varies as such wouldn't everything else.

Congratulations Chelle 68

Thanks Shubox.

I really do not know enough about how food affects healing. However, my surgeon told me that he staples, sews, and glues the sleeve. I don't know if that is common practice or not. All my exterior stitches were glued on top as well except for the open drain wound. I have read countless posts and it seems that the faster post op tracks are not only my hospital but many others as well.

Thank you for most of your responses. I am new to VST and thought it was a place for support. It seems like most are in agreement that we should support each other. I believe it is ok to have a difference in opinion. But it is how that opinion is communicated that shows our support for one another. However, some people are simply miserable and want to tear people down to feel better about themselves. In response to the protein shakes, they take me about an hour and a half to sip down. I do feel plenty of fullness and gas but I was told by my NUT to get the protein and water in...so that is what I am doing. My hospital is a Center of Excellence. I was given specific instructions to follow about different phases the post op diet. I am following them. But I also do notice that there are plenty of programs that have longer liquid phases. I am very nervous and want to make sure I am doing things right. As for exercise, I have been walking 5 miles on the tread mill for the last 3 days. Also, I just finished playing hardball catch with my 12 year old son. I am very active and I believe that helps the gases a lot.
