Are There ANY Eastern Iowa Bandsters?

Hi, Lynn! I will be banded in about 3 weeks! I started my journey in March, so I am so ready for this. I will start my liquid diet in one week. Yuck!!!!!!! I go to Dr. Glascock in Cedar Falls. Glad to hear you are doing so well!

Are There ANY Eastern Iowa Bandsters?

I was approved last Friday, July 13 by BCBS of Georgia. It took 3-4 weeks for a decision. I did not have to do a supervised diet, though I had been seeing my doctor for weight related issues. I have lost 10 pounds since starting this journey. My surgery will be sometime the week of August 13, so I will by starting my liquid diet soon. I think your insurance company looks at your many years of medical history and can tell that you cannot sustain weight loss. Don't worry. It sounds llike you are really doing all you can. Good Luck!

    Anyone see "Big Medicine"?

Love it, too! I missed the lapband gal last week, but I saw the young lapband guy tonight. I just got approved and my mom is not excited about he surgery at all. I called her and told her to watch Big Medicine tonight. She said she would. She then told me she has been watching the other episodes over the past few weeks. It surprised me. Maybe the show will help her change her mind. I have several friends and family members who watch the show to see what I am going through. I think that is so cool! I can take all the support I can get!

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia

I know they do not require a doctor supervised diet. They want to see the last 3 years of your med record with failure to sustain weight loss. Just give them a call for the specifics. Once you turn in everything they want, it may take several weeks for approval.
  12. I don't have my date yet, but it is supposed to be sometime in August! I can't wait! I will let ya know when I hear a written in stone date! I would love to be a Crazy Ate!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Xgrl! My friend has a BMI in the mid 40's, I believe. She also has sleep apnea and few other co-moridities. I will e-mail her about this thread, as she is a regular at this site! She can tell ya for herself! By the way, I have Dr. Glascock, too.
  14. It is hard to keep it secret. I am the kind of person who needs to feel supported by my friends and family, so I had to tell them what I was planning. Most were very supportive, while others were not. Most people do not understand what the band is, or they think it is the same as bypass. You have to educate them. My mom and dad are not happy with my decision. I just got approved yesterday, so now it is really gonna happen. I need to educate them, and I think they are also scared about me undergoing surgery. When I start losing weight I know people who I have not told are gonna be curious. There is one thing I know for sure about myself- I am not a good liar. If someone asks me how I lost the weight, I am gonna tell them I was banded. It's the truth- plus what if they find out through the grapevine that I lied to them. That would make me look bad. I am proud that I am going to be banded. I feel it is a very honorable decision. We all know it is not the easy way out. It is just a tool, and we do the rest. To tell or not to tell- it's up to you, but they all usually find out in the end, one way or another. Whether you tell them or they hear from someone else.
  15. I am so excited!!!!!!!!! I finally got the call this morning that my insurance approved me! I can hardly believe it! It looks like I will probably have my surgery in August. I am so anxious:clap2:, elated, nervous and scared out of my mind! I just had to tell you all! Thanks for all your support while I was waiting. It's really gonna happen! Friday the 13th isn't bad luck anymore! It has been one of the best days of my life!
  16. My stuff was sent on June 18, but was not entered into there "system" until July 5. So it took 8 days from then. I called a bugged them a couple times a week. I was never rejected. My insurance is gonna pay for all but $500-$600 of it. They do not know the exact number yet. I am still in shock today. I have been telling some of my friends about what is going on and they are all pretty positive. I will need their support through this. This site is a wonderful source of information and support. It is fantastic!!!!

I am approved! I got the call this morning. I can hardly believe it! I am gonna be banded!!!!!!!!!!!!! It hasn't really sunk in yet. I am really in shock. It took so long that I had resigned myself to the fact that I was gonna be turned down. I am completely floored. Wow! I will most likely have surgery next month. It's overwhelming!

Are There ANY Eastern Iowa Bandsters?

What area of Iowa are you from? I am from Eastern Iowa and I am going to Dr. Glascock in Cedar Falls. Most of the tests needed for surgery are dictated by your insurance and the doctor you are seeing. Check with them to see what else they need. I also needed a chest X-ray, abdominal ultrasound, lotsa bloodwork, and an EKG. Good Luck!! I am still waiting for approval!

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia

I just got off the phone with BCBS of Georgia. What a pain in the butt. My records were sent on 6/18. They stated they did not receive them until 6/25. I called them on 6/29 and they stated they did not have all my paperwork yet. I called my doc and they called BCBS to see what was up. My insurance had forgotten to scan some of my record in. That makes me feel really wonderful! I called earlier this week and left them a message and they never called back. I called today and they stated it was put into their system yesterday!!! Now it may take up to 30 working days to get an approval! One of my online friends submitted her records to BCBS of Iowa the same day I did and was approved 4 days later. I told my insurance that I was upset. I am going crazy here. I have been working on this for 5-6 months. I thought I would be banded already. Now it looks more like September. I am usually a very patient person, but it is running thin.

    Band Date July 5th! Hooray!

Congrats! Sounds like you are doing pretty well after surgery. That's great! I am not banded yet. I am waiting for approval by BCBS of Georgia. I saw in one of your other posts that you had BCBS and they did not cover the band. Was it BCBS of Georgia? They told me it is covered, but so far they have been a pain in the butt. Take care. I hope your recovery is an easy one!

    Fear of Being Thin...

Boy, that was deep, Tommy O! Are you a couselor, too. I noticed that there are a lot of counselors on this thread. I am one, too. Very interesting... Anyway, my issue is a bit different. I was thin until college. My Freshman 15 turned into Freshman 75. I still think of myself as thin. I know I am not when I look in the mirror, but in my mind, I weigh 135 pounds. I am looking forward to an approval by my insurance company to be banded. I can't wait to be thin again. AND HEALTHY!!!
