Problems....

I had nausea from being knocked out. Pretty normal. But... you should not be numb- anywhere. Not normal. Call your doc.

Did I slip?

I am so scared that my band has slipped. I got sick a week ago and vomited several times. I also dry heaved some. Since then I have been nauseus and lightheaded. Also feel like I have restriction, but I have not even had a fill yet. I was only 1 month post-op when this happened. I called my doc and they don't think it slipped because he stitched it in so well. I feel like crap. Right now it feels like I have a golf ball stuck in my throat. I have only been able to eat a quarter of a cup of mushy food. I have not had reflux, which I heard is a sign of slippage, so that is good. I am really scared that something is wrong. I am gonna call my doc again tomorrow to see if I can get in. I can't sleep- I am so worried. :help::help::help::help::help:
3. Hi Miss Nana! I am from Iowa, too! I went to Dr. Glascock in Cedar Falls. He is excellent. I had the stomach flu yesterday. I threw up several times. I am concerned as I am only 1 month post-op. I am doing liquids for a few days to calm things down. I did take some medication for nausea, but it was too late. I was concerned about slipping, but I think I am ok. Good luck on your surgeon search!
4. I haven't hit 50 yet, but 41 is great! I just got the band a month ago! I have no fill yet, either! I know I will hit 50 soon- maybe for my 35th birthday at the end of October!!! Oh, your doc said 2 years to lose 50 pounds? You can do it in a matter of months!!!
5. I am 1 month post-op. Yesterday I had a tummy bug and vomitted several times. I did not eat or drink all day yesterday, because I would throw up anything that went down. I am able to drink and eat mushies today. I am so worried about my band and slippage. How do you know when it slips? Can you tell that something is wrong?:help:

Consumption of full liquids....HELP

Right now you have no restriction. Most likely your band is totally empty and is just sitting there! I had 2 weeks of clear liquids after surgery and am now on my month of mushies. Physically, you can eat/drink the stuff you did before, but it is not good for your healing tummy! (My doc wants me to stick to 1/2 to 1 cup of food per meal. You will feel hungry. Drink lots of fluids to help stay full.) Right now, sip fluids throughout the day. Once I get my first fill I will only be able to eat 1/4 of a cup of food or so. If you aren't sure as to what to do- call your doctor.

Afraid

I was scared of the unknown. I had never had surgery before. I was so incredibly confident in my surgeon that I really didn't worry about the actual surgery part. Being knocked out was the hardest part for me to take in. Emotionally, I was doing ok the day of surgery until I saw another patient crying on her way to the OR. I broke down a little then, but it turned into laughter. It was what I wanted. I have tons of support from friends and family. I made a conscious effort to educate all of them, so they knew the facts of the band. I recommend getting some info together for your hubby. Good luck with your decision!
8. My surgeon does both surgeries and leaves it up to his patients to make the choice. He gives all the info on both, including a pros/cons list for both. My surgeon and his staff are very supportive, no matter what you choose. Find one like him!!!

Abdominal Swelling???

My belly was not bloated at all. I had some gas, but it was gone about 3-4 days post-op. I am almost 4 weeks out. I do notice some swelling around my port, though. It's not bad.

I need a lil INFO

I had to do 2 weeks of clear liquids. It was rough, but I survived! I also lost a lot of weight! It was worth it!
12. I stayed the night. Thank God! I highly recommend it! I was very nauseous from the anesthesia. I absolutely could not have gone home the same day. The surgery went great, that really wasn't the issue. You never know how your body is gonna respond to being knocked out! I went home the next afternoon. I am doing great!

Help! I am gaining weight

It may be a little weird, but that's ok. This is how you feel, and if it works for you, more power to ya!! (Just a note though- research shows that those who weigh themselves daily lose more weight. They are better able to keep track of their weight, whether it be a loss or gain!)

Help! I am gaining weight

(Thanks Wendell! I agree! Your posts are always helpful!)

I am almost 4 weeks post-op, too. My doctor told me that the 6 weeks after surgery were for healing, not necessarily for losing. I lost some, as I was still on a liquid diet for 2 weeks after surgery. But, when I started eating food again I plateaued. I do not eat much, plus I have been exercising quite a bit. Finally, after almost 2 weeks at the same weight, I lost 1 pound yesterday and another today. I am looking forward to my first fill on Sept. 24, but a little scared! I am terrified to get something stuck. I chew food until it's liquified, but I am still paranoid! Any words from the wise?

15. I live in a very small community in Iowa. You know, where everyone knows everyone?! Word travels fast here. So, I can assume that 1/2 the town knows about my band that I got a couple of weeks ago! That's life, I guess!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!
16. My kids are 8, 4 and just turned 3. I did not tell the 4 and 3 year old, as they really are not old enough to get it. I had not told my 8 year old my plans to get the band. One day we were watching tv and the Lapband commercial came on. She turned to me and said, "Mommy, you should get that!" I couldn't believe it! I explained to her that I was looking into it. She wanted information about it, too, so I showed her pictures and read to her about the band. She went to the hospital with us on surgery day and did great. She is one of my biggest supporters. (She is obviously a very mature 8 year old.) I think every kid is different as far as their maturity and life experiences. Everyone should look at each kid individually to see if they can handle the information, because it can be pretty deep! Also, my band is not a secret, as I am not a good liar! Plus, what if you lie to someone and they find out? They are gonna think you are trying to hide something. I don't wanna look like a dumbass, just a skinny ass!!!
17. Mine is just slightly tender. If I twist funny it hurts. Other than that, I'm great. Banded August 13.
18. I reached my mini-goal of weighing 199 pounds today! I have lost 33 pounds since I started this journey a few months ago. I was banded on the 13th of August, and I am obviously doing great! I just wanted everyone to know! I am so excited to be out of the 200's!!!!!!!!!!! YeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
19. I have followed my post-op liquid diet completely, and I still fear slippage! I get hiccups and burps and I kinda just wait for something to happen. What does it feel like - to slip? Anyone? I know I am paranoid, but I am curious.

ACK!!! This cannot be right!

I weigh myself first thing in the morning. (After I p -Tracy's rule!) Research shows that people who weigh themselves daily are able to control their weight better. Heard it on the radio the other day!

How sore was your abdomen?

I was banded on Aug 13. I am doing great. I could have gone back to work 4 days after. I am 9 days out. If I twist funny I have some stinging in my port site. Other than that, I am awesome!!

Newly Banded

I felt the same way. I was so scared something would happen in surgery. It was the first time I had been under the knife. I have 3 very young children I knew I did not want to leave. I also knew that my weight and health problems were an early death sentence. The doctor I chose has done a lot of surgeries; bands and RNY. He has never lost anyone. This was assuring to say the least! I just trusted in him and his team and I really didn't get that nervous. I was banded Monday, August 13. Doing well on liquids, but bored!!! I am ready for some real food. I start mushies on the 27th. Can't wait, but a little scared. With liquids I know I can lose weight; about a pound a day. I am afraid I will start gaining back on mushies. I guess I will really have to start working out!!! I am 5 days out. I also have some port site pain. Not too bad anymore, and my gas is almost gone. Thank God!!! I am feeling great! Not using any pain meds, either. I took a long walk last night. I am planning on jumping on my eliptical today. I'll take it easy. I am so excited for my doc appt on Monday. Hopefully I will have hit the 30 pounds lost point. I will be doing a happy dance!! :whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo:
23. I am 4 days out. Feeling pretty good. Had some pain at my port site this morning and took a little of my pain med. Never again! It made me so nauseous! Now I have a huge headache and I'm dead tired. Other than that, it's going well. Been sipping all day and walking as much as I can bear. I am hungry now, though. Maybe that's the cost of feeling better so soon after surgery!

Hicurps? Or Buccups?

Hi Nana! I was banded on Monday the 13th. I, too, am having hiccups and buccups! I also burp once in awhile. It feels great to burp and get some gas out! I think when I hiccup it is a sign to slow down with my drinking. That usually works anyway. Other than that, how are ya doing?
25. Hi, MissNilsa! I am glad you are doing well. I had surgery Monday too. I didn't sleep, either. I had a private room, but still got no sleep. I am not constipated, I have the other problem! I am doing great at home. Minor pain at port site and some gas. I have been walking as much as I can. That helps. :whoo: Good luck with your recovery! Keep us updated!
