Anyone do great with the band and not the sleeve ?
sleeveconvert replied to Band07's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
She is absolutely right!! When you eat you are medicating. It is so individualized how fast you lose, don't get discouraged. Take a PPI. -
Listen to your surgeon, unless you were in the same graduating class in med school, and have done as many sleeves as your surgeon.

People With Low BMI
sleeveconvert replied to Thetoothfairy's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
That's hard-- what's going to be the definition of Low BMI- normal, overweight-- where is the cut off. "Low BMI" is less than 18, For this forum it would have to be set midrange of the overweight category 28-30. Success is individual dependent. No one can predict percentage or success rates since its so Variable. -
3 weeks post-op: Pizza and Pasta?!
sleeveconvert replied to EarthyGoalie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Tomorrow is a new day. Decide if your in or out-- 3 weeks and regular food can be fatal-- leaks are real and can kill you if you get pertonitis. Chew it up SPIT it out ! I cannot tell you more simply ! You are risking your health and your life-- No food is worth it. You weren't ready , if you continue this self destructive behavior you need to seek counseling from the surgeons office. Get it together or you will hurt yourself. -
Sleeved 7/31 and i have only lost 18 pounds
sleeveconvert replied to Esmeralda75's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everyone looses differently, this is your journey- no one else's. the people dropping weight fast are NOT better off- their skin will sag, they are at risk for mal nutrition, hairloss, the list goes on......You need to only compare you to you. Monitor calories, log them, increase protein, increase water, cut carbonation and caffeine. It took me 6 yrs to lose 80# !!! I know the frustration. It will happen, your patience, perserverence is essential. Tie a knot in your rope and hold on !! You can do it! -
What is best TASTING Protein shake?
sleeveconvert replied to Poorehouse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Post sleeve- I was nauseated by sweet for months. Unjury is unflavored, strawberry, vanilla, choc, cheese sauce and ckn soup. I was a terrible shake drinker! I preferred the thinner ones- odwalla, was not so sweet ! To enhance my protein-- I pureed meatloaf, thinned w beef stock-- don't look just drink--- it was heaven !! Pot roast the same ! I would add a scoop of the unflavored unjury powder-- only negative is can't heat it above 120 or 140 if clumps up. If you haven't found the webpage-- the world according to egg face-- she has a ton of good ideas. I was lucky-- I was at goal when I had my sleeve-- I didn't have to do the reduced calorie diet stuff again, which made life taste better. My absolute favorite is Gladiator from smoothie king-- it Has a whopping 45 gms protein. Avail I'm 3 flavors and low carb. -
Any Regrets? Band to sleeve?
sleeveconvert replied to Poorehouse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The only regret is I waited, I had a band first ad wasted $$$ and yrs !! I do have horrendus reflux-- the band fixed that- now that I'm sleeved its back w avengence. I take axid twice daily, and protonix in the middle of the day and have tums sugar Free if needed. If I adhere to NO eating 2 hrs before laying down I'm good. If I take the above schedule of reflux meds I'm good--- if I skip I'm in bad pain!! I will trade skinny acidity biatch ANYDAY for fat, sassy and wanting to be thin !!! Good Luck !! -
Medication, Vitamins after sleeve?
sleeveconvert replied to Poorehouse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't take vitamins, a lot do I guess. I eat well balanced- all my labs are perfect.I do supplement my protein-- Odwalla, unjury,or the like. I take advil and alleve w food. Initally, for 3-4 months, you need to take liquid motrin. You will love it ! -
Revision with a toddler? Anyone dare to do that?
sleeveconvert replied to Poorehouse's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Been there, DO NOT lift more than 10#. This is too big a deal to mess up. I stuck to it, sit low enough and allow him to climb in your lap, do not lift under any circumstance. If you can't adhere-- wait and don't do it--- people do this everyday w c-sections, gallbladders post partum, hernia repairs-- its not the procedure, it will you obey and not lift. Tantrums will pass, you'll get good at getting off the floor. Good luck ! -
Has anyone had Band removed and Sleeve Done in one Surgery and had a PROBLEM after the surgery?
sleeveconvert replied to JewelJ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Of the 3 surgeries my surgeon did the day I had mine-- all 3 of us had to drink it. It is absolutely the worst part. You can gag that down-- your home free ! -
Has anyone had Band removed and Sleeve Done in one Surgery and had a PROBLEM after the surgery?
sleeveconvert replied to JewelJ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had mine done in one. I was at goal, I had a lot of swelling. On day 2 the ONE oz f/u gastrogaffin dye took an hour to pass thru my new sleeve. That took 2 weeks to settle down. I stayed in the hospital for 3 nights to be sure I was not a problem. It was an expected possible bump in the road. I did fine. There isn't a one fits all. Follow what your surgeon recommends for you. Good Luck. -
Band to Sleeve in TEXAS? Doc referrals DfW area or Denton?
sleeveconvert replied to Poorehouse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Both are VERY qualified surgeons. I had mine done in plano by Cribbins Partner. My husband had his bypass by provost-- spouse not compliant- has less to do with surgeon than pt. -
for those of you that had band to sleeve in 1 step
sleeveconvert replied to socalfosh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Having it deflated doesn't matter. Inflamation isn't determined just by that. Either trust the surgeon or get a new one. You are sending the message you know better than they do. The fact its there at all had caused years of Chronic inflamation. Its a foreign body- its stable leave it alone. The mere fact they remove fluid and allow it to have freedom, rub up and down inside the band can be as bad or infact worse. Try to be respectful of the surgens education and expertise, try not to express your "googLe MD" learned/common sense . They have a lot more experience than you with such things- if you feel your right-- change offices. You will burn bridges and be the difficult patient stuck with a band no one wants to touch. Mine was broken, deflated less than a week. One step has a lot to do with chronicity/ compliance/thickening/internal room/ size of pt/length of time banded/liver size......... more factors than space here. Good luck to you. -
Cranky and frustrated
sleeveconvert replied to shielanotsheila's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You just had MAJOR surgery-- 2/3 of your stomach removed ! Your body will not lose- your body is on WTF mode, lock down, don't even think I can heal without nutrition chapter. My kindest sent message is get off the scale, recuperate, don't break the rules, stop feeling sorry for yourself and embrace the new, exciting, wonderful life you have enabled yourself to have !! Its going to be so great, so wonderful and not everyone gets this opportunity. If you get hungry- more protein, if you need to chew do so and SPIT IT OUT, rinse your mouth out with kitchen sprayer. Youu have to WANT this-- its not easy, its not fun and you have to change your mindset. You can do this ! -
EXCESSIVE NAUSEA?
sleeveconvert replied to bandtovsgdone52813's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums

Did my revision & I am home , but I am disappointed & worried
sleeveconvert replied to Halloul's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
There are bypass patients who do not lose weight! They have less than 60%!! Weight loss is breaking a food addiction--- it is mental-- you got a fresh go at this !!! You can do it !! -
Did my revision & I am home , but I am disappointed & worried
sleeveconvert replied to Halloul's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
This battle is 60% mental--- had he told you he took 85% and it was 60 you'd be over joyed and successful !! Don't psyche your self into failure ! You have 60% less to fill, stretch than you did 2 days ago ! Your success is up to you. Measure, stay in limits and you'll be fine. WLS is a tool, not the miracle or holy grail. Put your mind to success and not the current I got robbed and you can do this !!! -
Your current BMI is 38.2, healthy BMI is less than 24.9. A healthy weight would be- 145 (22 BMI) to 160 (24.5 BMI) It's easier to manage weight I find with my sleeve. I fluctuate 3-5 pounds. If I want down, cut sugar and carbs and I'm there. I think the' "carry my weight well"--- (thats what friends and family say to be nice, thats what we tell ourselves to deny we are fat) prevents a lot of WLS patients from looking objectively at what is healthy for them as the person. The numbers are a ROUGH guide. Pictures speak a 1000 words. YOU will know! Good Luck to you where ever you land. It's the journey not the arrival - you will encounter a lot of "your to thin" along the way.......... Friends and family are threatened very easily!

Mine is worse. Keep reading there are threads specifically about reflux.

Revision on May 6th no pre-op liquid diet.
sleeveconvert replied to sherrypep's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
That is exactly it! You don't have the liver shrinkage needed by heavier pts. I did not have pre-op diet either. Good luck -
Fellow band to sleevers: was your post op food progression slow?

Anyone here from Texas?
sleeveconvert replied to shielanotsheila's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I used Stephen Hamn in plano. I had mine done in one procedure. I would recommend him. -
"Hello! I am 20 months post-op. I have been maintaining for a 13 months. I can drink fluids just as I did pre-op. I get grief from other sleevers cause I drink sparkling Water all day long. It has not and will not stretch my sleeve" Sleeve of steel may be the exception- - surgeons and bariatric professionals have seen more failures than one individual who is able to break the rules and be successful. For the general population it is NOT recommended to push the limits and the rules . Even gastric bypasses are seen DAILY stretched by such behavior. No one is saying dont do it-- don't let it become a habit. Studies show that obesity is easily replaced with alcoholism or other addictive behavior- shopping and gambling as examples. Life is about moderation- obesity isn't because any of us practiced that very well--- the rules are like AA 12 step to keep you on track and not testing your limits.

Broke my halo is spot on !! You won't need/ want or desire it. Initally it BURNED my new stomach- your tolerance will be a 1/4 of now, you can't eat to off set the alcohol-- I can eat OR drink not both. Until your at goal- give it up-- the carbonation will stretch your pouch, cause pain and delay you, the alcohol burns and increases calories. Your new sight post sleeve is to get to a healthier weight, smaller pant size, learn a new lifestyle--- refocus and good luck !
