No Bread, Pasta, Rice for 6 mos? Really?
RJ'S/beginning replied to lapnicky's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No this is not the reason. The reason is that it swells in your stomach and takes up a lot of room that should be filled with dense Protein. I was told everything in moderation. EVERYTHING. I eat rice, noodles and bread at times. Not at the same time..LOL I chose which ones I eat carefully. I eat wild rice and multi- grain noodles and bread that is rye or pumpernickel.... I am 15 months out. -
saying goodbye to my old friend...FOOD
RJ'S/beginning replied to readyanxiousscared's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all you have to start seeing food for what it is. NOT a friend! It is a fuel we use for of bodies to build on and keep moving and living..you know the drill.. Some friend who allows you to get sick, over weight, have to take strong organ affecting medications to counteract its effects on your body. Then you go to the go to comfort, and it is only a temporary fix. After you feel worse then before. This action is followed by guilt, judgement, fear, betrayal and a whole host of other emotions that are negative..... When you realize that it is an addiction like any other. You start to see food differently. Your mindset changes and you start to fix what is going on in your head. What drove you here. Why you have to take such a drastic step to save yourself from this so called friend. It is not a red light moment. It is work. Real work to change a habit you started a long, long time ago... But it will be worth it when you put food in its proper place and it no longer has a hold over you. You control it....You learn to eat to live, not live to eat! Hope this helps hun. -

The 10 Weight Loss Commandments
RJ'S/beginning replied to CurvyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
*Thou shall exercise 5 times per week for 40-45 minutes.....3 times a week *Thou shall not covet carbohydrates...Complete carbohydrates....okay Thou shall not eat more than 3 meals per day and shall not have unhealthy Snacks between meals..3 meals a day and one snack at night..... *Thou shall drink at least 8 glasses of Water per day.....hey I do one right! Thou shall eat a minimum of 70 grams of Protein per day..rarely get it all in...oops Thou shall honor thy commitment to good health and healthy choices ..most of the time Thou shall keep thy follow up appointments with thy doctor...always....okay I do 2 of these right! *Thou shall always take thy vitamins...3 I do three right *Thou shall not weigh thyself more than once per week.....try once every 2 months. *Thou shall always keep the memory of the past and hope of the future as a clear image in thy mind..I like this one! I never get bogged down in the diet aspect of this program. I failed at dieting...been there done that. I have committed myself to finding the reason for the addiction and am trying to fix it....will take a long time. I work every day to like myself and see the good in me. I look at each new day as a new gift at life now. I forgive myself when I make mistakes. that is a hard one but I do not obsess about that anymore. I have decided that I will work to have a better stronger body..through exercise. That's all I can think of right now! -

What foods are highest in protein?
RJ'S/beginning replied to atlchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Soup is an exception to the rule...just like the i before e except after c rule...there are lots of words that fall into this category..like: financier, glacier Same with soup it is one of the things that you can eat anyway. it still has the same influence on your system as drinking Water with your meal but it has nutritional value through the liquid. It will not stay in your system as long as dense Protein but it is good to have some anyway....Not every day...but a good bowl of well made soup is still healthy for you.... I also drink the milk when I have my Cereal every morning....There are things you just can't get away from..... -
Love all the new things we can do!!! Excited for you girl!

Sam Berns talks about his philosophy of life...We as WLS patients can apply his message to ourselves and consider his message for our own journey's. Some of the things he said rang true for me and I will digest some of his ideas and try to incorporate them in my life. Sam passed away a few weeks ago. But his words ring true to anyone who wants to have a positive view of life and in our case, our journey! enjoy

RJ'S/beginning replied to MN_Thin0211's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have any idea how much poison goes into your body when you have surgery. The body reacts to protect itself from these invaders esp. your kidneys and liver. it takes a lot of time for that stuff to leave your body. Diluting it with Water is a great help. You don't need to get mad you need to be patient. It is part of the journey...the beginning. Be glad your system is working to protect itself. That means all is good! I was told that it is impossible for someone who has had this surgery to not lose weight. You are now geared to lose weight.... Get rid of that scale...It plays with the mind!!!!!!! The only things scales are for are fish! weighing once every 2 weeks is plenty......K -
This is not another failed diet....glad i got that out. This is a journey that you will be taking to learn who you really are and what caused you to become heavier. This is a journey because it will take place through your entire life...There is no failure!! There is however fear, worry, gains, losses, proud moment, happiness, pride, confusion, one step back and two steps forward. Figuring out the unknowns and really finally figuring out how to fix your brain. It is quite the trip let me tell you... In the back of every ones heads we have the fear of failing!!!!!!!!! It is a history of conduct that we are used to in weight control issues...the sleeve will give you an edge to find out how you think about some things and really get to know who you are..... It is all very rewarding...I had my surgery 15 months ago and I am not the same person who had this surgery....I am finding out who I really am and that is great...she is not so bad you know! I think about the beginning of my journey and I smile because it was my turn to repair the damage. It was my turn to do this to better my health. It was now me that was going to feel the same things as everyone else on this forum. Stay close and keep positive but never let your guard down.....You are going to do this because you are not sure you will so you know you will have to work for it...Nothing is worth having unless we work for it....K

Your hubby is an amazing man to do that for you......you look happier and healthier..congrats girl...continue to kick it eh!!!!!

Lord Blackout • 3 hours ago You still looks fat hihihi Who does this Joe think he is!? I hate it when people try to make their lives better and jerks like this guy put in his 1/4 of a cents worth....... -
My trainer gave me a lecture today on the amount of food I eat. He said that when we have a session I lose between 400-600 calories and have to up my intake of food so that my blood sugar does not dive. He suggested complex carbs. So today I ate a Protein bar all made with fresh fruit, hemp, Chia, flax, Protein powder dried fruit and nuts. This is the first time i did not crave sugar after a workout or feel depleted of energy. The hour went by so fast and I was ready to do more... Could he be on to something... One day you wake up and people are telling you you need to lose weight..Then people tell you you need to stop losing weight... One day they say you eat to much and then you eat to little... sometimes I just have to give my head a shake because I can't believe that someone told me I have to consume more calories....Me....imagine!!! Have others been this confused too... I went to my writing class the other night and watched as everyone was milling around and realized that I am one of the smallest people in the class... I was always the biggest hands down...Everyone seems happy and not self conscious at all. They don't even know I was morbidly obese ( I hate that word ). so they would never understand what I have done or what I have accomplished. I am just another person in a class with a bunch of people taking a course......unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.buzzle.com/articles/complex-carbohydrate-examples.html This is a site that introduces you to the best complex carbs for your body. Complete Protein explanation here: If you take a trip back to your old science class, you might remember that protein is made up of smaller components called amino acids, 12 of which are manufactured by the human body. Another nine, called essential amino acids, must be obtained from food. A complete protein is a protein that contains all of the essential amino acids. Animal Proteins are complete, including red meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, and dairy, so what's a vegetarian or vegan to do? There are a few nonanimal sources that offer complete proteins, so it's important to get your fill of soybeans, blue green algae, hempseed, buckwheat, and quinoa if you're diet is meat-, milk-, or egg-free. Then there are foods known as incomplete proteins, including Beans, whole grains, nuts, seeds, peas, and corn. Combine two or more incomplete proteins and boom — you've got a complete protein. Enjoy them together in one meal or the combination can be consumed over the same day, such as black bean Soup for lunch and brown rice with dinner. Here are some other food combinations that work: Beans with whole grains: hummus (contains chickpeas and tahini, which is made from sesame seeds) and pita bread, red beans and rice, chickpea and quinoa veggie burgerson a whole-wheat bun, split pea soup with whole-grain bread, lentil barley soup, black beans and polenta, and tortillas with refried beans Nuts or seeds with whole grains: sunflower seed butter on crackers, almond butter on toast, peanut noodles Beans with seeds or nuts: hummus, salad topped with sunflower seeds and chickpeas Like I said I made a Protein Bar with Protein powder and hemp, chia seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, dried cherries and coconut. Base was prune juice. Together they make a complex protein because you have simple carbs and protein together so it becomes a complete protein.. He encouraged me to eat more of this type of food before a workout.....So today I ate a 1/2 of a bar I made and it worked....So when I work out I will eat one of them 30 min. before I start my sets.... hope this helps: -
I read this poem yesterday and then when I sent it to my daughter she told me that she read on a diet site that if you get tired of starting over to quit stopping!!!! LOL Start OverIf you have started out in pursuit of your goal And you have really tried with your heart and your soul, But somehow things got out of control START OVER. When you have tried your best to do what you should And you thought this time that you surely would, But once again, you did not do good START OVER. When you have worked so hard to follow a dieters way And you fought to win a victory each day. But one more time you went astray START OVER. When you have tried so hard to yourself to be true And do the things that you know you should do, But once again you failed to come through START OVER. When the road to success seemed much too long And each temptation was oh so strong And once again you gave in to wrong START OVER. When you have told your friends what you planned to do And trusted them to help you through But soon discovered it is up to you START OVER. When you know you must be physically fit, But your hope seems gone and you are stuck in a pit That is not the time for you to quit START OVER. When the week seems long and successes few And at weigh in time you are feeling blue, Remember tomorrow is just for you START OVER. To start again means a victory is been won And starting over again means a race well run And starting over again proves it can be done So do not just sit there START OVER. Author Unknown
