Hello Everyone
RJ'S/beginning replied to Donald Garvey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Don. just a question. i too have eaten some strange things but why would you eat Fireflies. They light up the night like little stars showing you your way..lol Anyway, I never got used to Protein shakes and hate them to this day. I fear getting sick ( flu ) so that I am forced once again to drink them...yuck! Your blood pressure most likely will go back down. Don't forget your body is under attack kinda with the new and improved you coming out. It will fight to keep you as healthy as you were before you started WLS. And once it sees it is okay..It will change even more. Our bodies adjust to circumstances as we present them until it cannot adjust anymore! Congrats on your decision. You seem like a real hoot! -
What you are doing is called a food funeral. I did it and a lot of folks on here did too. I thought that you could not eat regular food after surgery. But as time went on I realized that you can. If you make good choices. Protein first then veggies, fruit and lastly carbs. Our mind change is the key. Making healthier choices in the food we eat. Making it healthier for us. The kicker is that after surgery you may find that your tastes have changes some. You desire different food then you did before. Right now I am on a Cauliflower kick. I know who does that. But it is true. I eat so differently now. But I still enjoy Chinese food on occasion. You can too!

Post-op Mood Swings
RJ'S/beginning replied to ShrinkingSaraVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
WE are women. We have mood swings. You will have ups and downs and whatever. It is whether you are willing to learn how to control what it is that brings you to this decision. This is not the easy way out and weight loss surgery is a tool to use to learn that food is to nourish our bodies and nothing more. It will be a time to learn other ways to enjoy time well spent with family. Without food as the main event. It all comes with time. Work and effort will give the rewards and goals you seek. But it will not be easy as I mentioned it will be a life long struggle to make it stick.... 30% of WLS patients go back to their old ways and regain their weight. Not retraining our brain is the reason. Going through the training sessions sounds like a good idea to me. It prolongs the surgery date..yes..but you will be well informed about nutrition and what you need to know and do to make this a successful journey! I wish you success and good health and happiness! -
Your doing great! Congratulations!

With the best of intentions we will make errors. It is human. Try not to be too mad at yourself and keep going forward. The previous poster had a good idea. It does help to write things down sometimes...It may help you move into it becoming habit after a bit!

So if your looking at the stats...Yes it is rare..But it happens. Whether you are educated or not it can happen. Whether you feel you are ready or not for it to happen. Your not! Keeping your eye on why you are doing it is key, and having the greatest intentions of dealing with the possibilities is neither here nor there. Because you have no choice but to deal. You can't go back if you have the sleeve. So you do want to make sure you have the right attitude if it does happen and that you can endure the possible long haul of complications. I was less then 1%. just like some others on this forum......some odds eh..For over 700 patients I was the one who got the bad odds..Odds are in your favor, yes! But it can happen. It does happen! Fact! Your doing it for the right reasons so make sure you can deal either way the best way you know how! k All other goals take second place if you have complications!

That is a problem you will have even when you reach your goal. you will not see yourself for who you really are for sometime. That is the nature of the beast! Surprisingly though the people at the gym are not looking at you. Most of them are busy trying to get in shape or stay in shape. Most people are not looking around. And if they do, most of them applaud you for coming. 35 lbs down nothing to sneeze at I would say..Hold your chin up. Get your bag together and get there and work it girl! You deserve to be healthy. just like anyone of those people at that gym. Who knows you might inspire others as they see you working out because you are doing this and making changes for yourself no one else!!!! 35 lbs of butter on the kitchen table is a remarkable accomplishment......Go, do it and think about the fact that you are 35 lbs smaller then you were when you started this journey! Kick ass!

Oh and it wasn't from eating too much.......What a dumb thing to say! lol

No problem. I am still fighting it. Happened that I was having pains in my side under my rib cage. I thought I had dislocated a rib and had it adjusted several times. Then one day the Chiropractor told me to do him a favor and have it checked. I did. They did a Cat Scan and discovered that I had an abscess and it was filled with Fluid and that's why I had the pain under my ribs. They sent me to my surgeon who did the tests over again and told me I had a leak and the fluid had caused and abscess. A scope done later revealed and ulcer as well. So they inserted a drain and hoped that it would seal and collapse if it was emptied. I am now 22 months out and went today because I am having pain again under my rib cage so he is thinking of doing another scope to see what is going on now. The last Cat Scan said the abscess was getting smaller and blood tests were good. But now I am in pain again...So we shall see if it is getting better or not or if it is getting worse again.... 22 months and only 5 of those months were complication free. I think that for me even with everything I have been through which is a lot. I would do it again because I was in a place where this was all I had left. Another person may have other options. I personally was dead anyway. So it was worth the risks and chance. Make sure you are very informed about this surgery and the possible side effects and possible complications. Be ready for the worst and if it does not come your way. Wipe your brow and be thankful. Very thankful!!!!!!!!!!

Question for sleevers
RJ'S/beginning replied to bagonian74's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
No I meant if you keep losing that maybe you will have to up the calories bit by bit. I don't count them either but I know when I have eaten more calories then I usually do. So upping a little each week will help stabilize your weight. Then you can work from there! -
Problem with vomiting and nausea...2 days post-op
RJ'S/beginning replied to Paloma68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
very common and it is because of what happened to you. This is a huge deal. You are swollen and sore and all the stuff they used to do the surgery. Pain meds. None of this is easy...It will pass. Ask your surgeon if you can take Gravol for the nausea. I don't know how it will last. Each person is different. I still throw up on occasion. Most find that it eases up after a month or so....Just don't force it by pushing it upwards. We think we need to get it all out. That is nature when we are sick. But we are not sick as in the Flu. Let it happen and then go on..... Keep us posted okay. And if it does continue please talk to your surgeon. Oh and try to drink some coconut Water or G2 Gatorade it will help with Hydration..... -
Question for sleevers
RJ'S/beginning replied to bagonian74's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your body will level off and gain and then maintain. I am there right now. It is a difficult process but it is none the less part of this journey. Caloric intake may be a factor and keeping a 5 lb up or down goal. You may have to up your calories to not lose any more. I now weigh myself once a week and I watch the 5 lb limit. It is definitely something to get used to when all you have ever wanted was to lose weight.... I suffer from reactive Hypoglycemia and am having a terrible time with it......I am so concerned I will gain too much back because of it.... Nevertheless keep a watchful eye on it and enjoy a little bit of freedom from the opposite of trying hard to lose the weight. -
I thought I would post my goal pictures. I have not had plastics yet...I wore this outfit to the seminar I spoke at last week.. Here goes! See my hubby..Isn't he cute!!!!!!!!

Has anyone gotten Hypoglycemia from having Bypass surgery and if so how do you control it food wise?
RJ'S/beginning replied to Chelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have too. ( Reactive Hypoglycemia ) But it was after the sleeve. And only a few months ago! I eat 6 times a day and very little refined sugar. I eat complex Protein. That means a carb with a protein and it seems to be working better for me...... -
Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?
RJ'S/beginning replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Rants & Raves
Seems that no matter what words I use in this thread.. They are wrong..So...I shall take the back door and leave this thread to those who can express themselves better then I...... -

You know what it isn't the first time on here that I have heard of patients saying that they thought watermelon would be a good choice to start off with and it wasn't. hmmmm maybe there is something to this after all. hope all gets better for you! -
