    2 part surgery

Actually it is the other way around..By-pass first then turned into the sleeve......Me on the other hand I have both due to severe complications with the sleeve surgery...So I deal with issues with both procedures...The sleeve....you still have your stomach and so you can still get good out of your food....The by-pass has no connection to the stomach and your only way you get any nutrients out of your food is in the bowels.. This is the reason I wanted the sleeve.....But...turns out that I got both after several surgeries trying to repair the sleeve...5 months in the hospital and now 10 months I am well on my way....

    grapes

I ate 5 grapes for a snack 5 weeks out...Ate them so often that now..I don't have a grape in the house.....Chew well okay......And bite them into sections..don't just pop one in your mouth..They are juicy..And I had a fear that I would choke or something...All the best!!!!!!!!!

    Difficulty Swallowing

i have only started drinking cold Water last week...I could not stand the taste...I drank a lot of water for years and it was my favorite drink in the world..After surgery..I could not get it down or keep it down.....I am almost 10 months out and now, only now can I take a glass of cold water and drink it down.... I am sooooooo happy I love the taste again......
  4. Now....I would have said you don't know me or my history...And your opinion means nothing to me..Just do your job and I will look after myself.... Before the surgery I probably would have done the same thing you did....I put up with so much abuse over weight and with all my heart I wish I had retaliated...But then what good would it have done....It is a prejudice like all others..People make judgments fast mostly without thinking...She should know better but she is human..... Now I don't take anything from anyone....I am doing this for me and trust me a lot of medical people are anti-weight surgery....So I just put what they say out of my head but first I tell them that they don't know me or my story or my history...... Don't take it too hard....Every one of us have had Dr/nurses before who think they have all the answers.....

    My appetite has not decreased?

The sleeve verses the by-pass is that your stomach is still secreting acid and will still help break down your food so that you get more value out of what you eat...... Some of the hunger feelings are probably in your head....I was sure I was going to slowly and steadily die with eating so little or drinking so little at first....And I always felt hungry....I could only go by what I ate before... Now almost 10 months out I do feel hungry before a meal.....but am satisfied with what I eat..... You will get there too....Have patients..I know I had to learn some....LOL

I mau have the spasms figured out! ?

Slow and steady wins the race...Right now your stomach dictates to you what it will take and won't take..Listen to it and do accordingly....This to shall pass and you will get to the point where you can drink Water and Fluid like you used to before the surgery... Almost 10 months out and can now drink a lot of water......

    Can't tolerate Artificial Sweeteners...

You can also substitute coconut sugar instead of regular...It is all natural as well....Agave, you use 1/2 of what the recipe calls for...I use real maple syrup as well on my cereal...not much, just a tad...Made the difference for me....Have not had any refined sugar in 10 months....yeah me!!!

2 weeks out and in pain

You can mix the G2 with 1/2 and 1/2 Water....it does not need to be at full strength to work. I like it this way...in that way you get water and hydrated again..... You know as well as I do that the first few weeks are rough..But it does pass and you begin to feel better and better...Remind him that it will be better soon..... Try some Protein drinks as well..He could probably handle Ensure as it has the calories he is lacking..... Sip, sip and keep sipping.....

    Negative self-image

Lift your head up high girl.....Your well on your way to the real you inside...does not matter how others see you.It is how you see yourself and how you are feeling..If you did not get a job because of prejudice that is their loss... You are working hard to become a better you and here you have everyone doing the same thing...We all have self image issues and down days...But at least we and you are improving your lot in life... Yesterday I went to the bakery for the first time in almost a year...They know me there and call me by name..But you know what, no one recognized me and I did not tell anyone who I was.....It felt fabulous that I have changed so much that I no longer stand out...... Your on your way..Be proud, be happy and all the best to you on your journey!!!

    Chips, crackers, pitas?

Pepperage farm has a chip cracker..You can eat 20 of them for 70 calories..Have not been able to eat 20 because I dip them..They have them in plain and BBQ.. Very crunchy and tasty too!!

    Feeling discouraged

Stalls and some weight gain is normal...Switch your Gatorade to G2. It helps with hydration and is only 20 calories...I mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with Water and it tastes okay to me....Try it! Six months- 100 lbs. that's a lot of weight gone..How do you feel other then being discouraged....

    Scared I'll fail @ this!

After surgery you will be geared to lose the weight...You can only eat so much..At first it might be easy but you will get a lot of energy and want to get going and do things like walking or the gym......I worried that I would never get the energy thing and now..I can't sit still..I am off doing what ever and loving it..... Feeling better makes you a better person, you'll see I promise!
  17. Okay so today was the 4th time in a week that I ate pork Chinese noodles.. they were left overs from a meal we had at my daughters..And like everything I could only eat a little! And it is the fourth time I up chucked it....Dah!!!!! Wouldn't you think that I would know better after the second time....But no, I tried and tried again.....Slow learning..Before the sleeve I loved Chinese noodles and shrimp....Don't think I will touch it again....Lesson learned ...Slowly but surely!!!!!

    SAD :(

What are you eating or drinking? Your weight loss is not bad at all....Your body has gone through a trauma and is rebelling.....Be a little patient with yourself and don't weigh yourself to often....We all will have stalls and then lose again... You are geared to lose the weight..Trust me...you cannot stop it..... Start taking a stool softener, it will help with the other problem Keep going forward, you are going to do it!!!

    Regrets!

I spent 5 months in the hospital due to complications with my surgery..Would I do it all over again....YES... I have so much energy 9 months out it is scary.....I have lost 131.4 lbs as of now and would have never done that other wise.....I feel like a different person and loving every moment as the new me uncovers herself...... Trust me that your Dr. does not look at this surgery as business...They are in it to help obese people get their lives back.... I saw mt surgeon last week and he could not stop smiling he was so happy for me...He almost started to cry.. They can easily find other surgeries to perform that would be less risk and make small changes in people for the good....Look at her that way and even ask her why she got into this in the first place...You may be surprised.... I was... You can do this......

    Shrimp Salad......never!

Okay so today was the first time in my life that I made and ate a shrimp salad...Lettuce, bacon, Artichoke hearts, tomatoes, feta cheese, and 4 jumbo shrimp.....Feta dressing too...just a dab! Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever something like that as a meal....I am doing it..Making the changes I need to make to be successful..... I used to watch others in restaurants order chicken salad and think why? What a waste of space....Sure I ate salads all the time but not as a meal...... It went down well and I feel good..did not hurt me one little bit....Wow....The changes we make to become healthy!!!!

Knowing What You Know Now, You would/not have...

I had everything go wrong that could have possibly gone wrong with the surgery. After spending five months in the hospital after....I almost died..which is the absolute worse scenario... I do not regret my choice and would do it all over again so that I could feel the way I am starting to feel now.......

As if I'm not fat enough....

The pre-op diet of just liquids will help shrink your liver.....They have to pick it up and move it so that they can work on the stomach...They have a clamp that they use to hold the liver in place..The problem is if it slips then there can be issues....... Do what your Doc tells you and you will be fine....The pre-op liquid diet is a huge key to shrinking your liver... Best to you!

    In mourning

A lot of people have a food funeral..I know I did...I ate the food that I would never eat again and it seemed to help a lot..Most of the food that you enjoy now you won't want to eat them after the surgery anyway...The sleeve can change your tastes....It did for me.... You will become like so many and feel bad that you did not do this before.....I look at the fast food as poison now....I see people eat so much and know that I was one of them not so long ago....Now I never want to go back... I feel so different and healthier and happier...I am so proud of myself because for the first time I am succeeding.....9 months out and 131.4 lbs. down...never lost that much in any diet before....There are so many positives that they really out weigh the struggles we have dealing with food issues!

    Please explain

A lot of meds come in liquid form as well...I took my meds that way while in the hospital...When I came home it was 2 weeks before I was allowed to take any Vitamins and when I did I looked for pills that were as small as I could get them....or chewables.. As far as dehydration goes....get some G2 Gatorade and mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with Water and drink that instead of just plain water...It will keep you hydrated.... 9 months out and I am still doing that....I never worry about that issue at all.. Best to you on the sleeve!

    Feeling crappy

Get some G2 Gatorade and mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with water...It will really help with hydration, and you will get your water in as well......I can only stand the orange...But you may like the others as well.....
