I am almost 11 months out and I get hungry sometimes but most of the time I don't...If I don't remind myself to eat especially during the day I miss meals... There is head hunger and it is us thinking we are hungry when we are not...At first your stomach does not have the acids to break down the food you ingest. Later it comes back so it can be that that gives you the feeling of being hungry. but it is too early for that at only 2 weeks out.... Really listen to your sleeve and figure out what it is telling you...Eat yogurt or some kind of Protein to help with the hunger pain....K

Freaked About Getting a Leak
RJ'S/beginning replied to Andrew0929's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would be more concerned about dying myself...lol They asked me what the worst thing that could happen to me with this surgery and I had to reply dying..They felt better knowing I knew there was a slight risk of that happening... I am one of those people who everything did go wrong...And to top it off I almost died....You have to look at this differently...Are you ready for a change in yourself and your health? Do you want to really live and enjoy the time you have left? Write down the things you can't do and see if you think it is worth the possibility of complications? Five months I was in the hospital and 5 months I had nurses attending me at home...Do I regret it? NO!!! I was just existing before my surgery and was unable to stand for 10 minutes without my back giving out...I can put my grand daughter on my knee very close to me and enjoy that time with her..I can cross my legs now and I walk for hours....I am a person who now finds it hard to sit down for too long..I want to live, live and live..... If you are like me and you tried it all..And this is what is left..Don't wait! chose well and go forward....I have! -
Just putting it out there, so 'dirty' little secrets may see the light of day!
RJ'S/beginning replied to Madam Reverie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Some of the things mentioned here as cheats are part of what I eat sometimes...Salsa and chips...Tortellini, pizza, I use these as part of my day to day life.....I got this sleeve to help me deal with my food addiction and teach me how to eat to live.... I made a choice not to follow a failed program before and do without things that I like to eat....That to me is becoming another addiction ...we can't be afraid of food anymore but work through the issues of why we are where we are...Balance is so important in this area.... I feel I need a little bit of everything so I guess I cheat all the time....160lb. gone in 10 months! Seems to work for me so far!!!! -
I eat lousy during the day but I eat a good dinner every night...I have always had trouble eating breakfast..Look and see if you love breakfast and have trouble with other meals.... I meant I can't eat very much..it is like my sleeve closes up and I can only eat 1/2 an egg and 1 slice bacon....if that..Not that I eat the wrong stuff...Most of the time I eat yogurt for breakfast...It sits well for me!

I really think you are not eating enough...your weight lose will slow down!!!

Sugar? Fat? Calories? Carbs?
RJ'S/beginning replied to dwhitten's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Well we finally agree on something...lol -
I was 5 months in the hospital due to complications with sleeve surgery. I had a leak as well...But I went septic....after they did surgery to clean up the infection they put me in an induced coma.because the pain was out of this world...i was supposed to be in it for a few days but ended up 19 days..When I woke up all my muscle mass was gone and I had a Trachea....I went on to have 11 surgeries with 2 of them being stents put in to try to save my sleeve...then they decided to try clamps..that did not work....So at the end I have a combination by pass and sleeve...I had not eaten for 5 and a half months...had to learn to walk again, talk again and even eat again..I lost all my hair and ended up with a category 5 bed sore on my butt...!0 months later I have finally been released from medical care for the bed sore....I was in bed forever, it was the loneliest time in my life.... I would do it all again in a second...10 months and 160 lbs off...I am a new woman and a very active one...Life was not worth living anymore before my sleeve as I was just existing.....chin up girl...at least it isn't 5 months yet...Hope you get better soon and can finally be on your way to a successful new you......

Too much...But thankfully we are all being human here........Kit Kat..yummm! -
I doubt that there will be an issue..But to save yourself the anxiety...Keep to the program for the first while..It is there to protect your sleeve from breaking open or infection....You have to heal and in time the stomach acids will return to help breakdown what you have ingested....K

Sugar? Fat? Calories? Carbs?
RJ'S/beginning replied to dwhitten's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I respectively disagree with you... 2. Aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal, NatraSweet, Canderel, Spoonfuls, DiabetiSweet) is a common chemical sweetener with possible side effects that sound like they're out of a horror movie. From hallucinations to seizures to brain tumors, it is hardly worth consuming for the sake of saved calories. 3. Sucralose (Otherwise known as Splenda, my past-sweetener of choice), is scary. Recent research suggests that Splenda can enlarge both the liver and kidneys and shrink the thymus glands. Sucralose breaks down into small amounts of dichlorofructose, which has not been tested adequately tested in humans. Splenda reportedly can cause skin rashes, panic, diarrhea, headaches, bladder issues, stomach pain, and those side effects don't even sum it up. Think this sounds bad? Do some further research. Most artificial sweeteners on store shelves are accompanied by numerous side-effect stories. (Some recent studies suggest they cause cancer. Should something as serious as cancer really be overlooked?) Research also suggests that they actually cause overeating among consumers. In addition to all of this, consider the waste involved in the industry of artificially sweetening. Ever stepped into a coffee shop and noticed a mound of sugar substitute packets building on the counter or in the trash? We've been wasting one of our most precious resources for the sake of a sweetener that can harm our bodies and prevent weight loss. It sounds unfathomable, but true nonetheless. What you can do instead to get your sugar fix: Turn to natural sweeteners for your drinks and food alike. Honey, organic maple syrup, molasses, date sugar, brown rice syrup, and stevia are just a few natural sweeteners you can turn to. Not only will they wreak less havoc on your body, but your support of these sweeteners instead will, eventually, help to slow the production of toxic artificial sweeteners--which are significantly less delicious in my opinion anyway. I am not interested in a war over this..but I will post this information for consideration...thank you! -
How is swallowing pills after surgery?
RJ'S/beginning replied to Superfluous's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my team look into liquid meds for me at first but it was not too long and I was able to take the pills again....The vitamins can be a real pain..Look for the highest doses with the smallest tablets...or chewables... -

Sugar? Fat? Calories? Carbs?
RJ'S/beginning replied to dwhitten's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Protein intake is your number one priority...next veggies, fruit, carbs....Carbs are the easiest for your body to break down and fuel you and that is why athletes carbo load before a big game......Protein is the body builder that levels everything out and also tells your body that you are being fueled.... Count calories if you must..I never used to look at labels but now I do....Then I decide whether I will eat the product.... Artificial sugar.....PLEASE..stay clear of that crap....Rats get tumors and die when they give them that stuff....i am not convinced that any artificial sugar on the planet is good for you...Try using agave and maple syrup to sweeten your food....I use them.....K -

Now there is something to look forward to.....can't wait for that one...gross! LOL -
What happens to food after you eat it is extremely complicated (taking up most or all of a semester in a university biochemistry course). I'll try not to get too scientific here. I CAN tell you that the main way your body is powered is via aerobic respiration which, through a complicated process, takes glucose (sugar) and oxygen and turns them into energy (ATP), Water, and carbon dioxide (this is why we need to breathe in oxygen and breathe out CO2). Your body can take building blocks from any type of food and use it to make glucose (this happens in the liver), so in a way, the answer to your question is yes. However, unless you are on the Atkins diet or have not had a meal in a day or so, probably most of the glucose in your body comes from carbohydrates in your diet. Your body can take any carbohydrate and break it down more or less directly to glucose. Proteins and fats, on the other hand, must be broken down and then rebuilt into glucose (it is "easier" for your body to use carbs for energy). Plus, your body's cells are constantly growing and dividing and producing hormones, etc., and they need amino acids and fatty acids to do so. Thus the proteins and fats you eat are more likely to be broken down and used for these purposes. These are more or less the theories behind high-Protein, low-carb diets. When your body is carb-depleted, it is forced to use fat and protein for energy. This may cause you to lose weight, but is not the way your body is meant to work and thus can be dangerous. It can lead to a condition called ketosis (which can cause nausea, dehydration, headaches, light-headedness, irritability, bad breath, and kidney problems), and also causes loss of muscle mass. Plus, the high fat and cholesterol content and low-Fiber content of these diets can lead to heart and digestive problems. I know that is probably more than you wanted to know but it seems like most people, when asking questions such as this, would be wondering about the implications of different diets. so everything we eat eventually turns into sugar to fuel the body in one way or another....Look at what a potato can give you as far as nutrients and Vitamins...... My advice is to try everything and eat what suits your makeup and limit the carbs...as they are the ones that your body does not have to work hard at turning into glucose... I eat a little of everything I want....10 months out and 160 lbs. down I think it is working!!

Don't forget that muscle and fat weigh the same...Muscle is more dense then fat....which is good all around....You are still releasing toxins in the fat as you go down and water and toxins interfere with weight loss... It will start coming off again..but at this time to give your body is taking a rest it needs and keep up the good work!

Worried about staying hydrated
RJ'S/beginning replied to beccakatherine's topic in Fitness & Exercise
G2 Gatorade! i mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with Water and drink it at least once a day...I experienced dehydration only once and felt horrible so even now after 10 months I still drink a 1/2 bottle every day.....It really keeps my skin from pinching and I don't worry about hydration.. I used to drink a lot of water and I mean a lot..Cannot drink that much anymore so I take that as a preoperative measure for dehydration.....I drink 3 30 oz bottles a day of water but that is nothing compared to what I used to drink.... your body rejects the water at first and you use the bathroom a lot but as your body gets used to it it uses the water and it hydrates your entire inner city...after all you are 99% water.....( I used to drink 3 or 4 liters a day ) This is that is in debate all the time..That's okay with me..i did what i did as my choice.....Do try the G2 every day though...K -
