Rest rest rest. You don't need a set back. I know its tough over the holidays, but your body is still healing and needs the rest. Good Luck and Merry Christmas

Most docs, mine included would like you to stay off alcohol for at least 6 months. My NUT said it would be "OK" after 3 months. The things you have to be careful of is one the behavior changes...getting the "munchies" and remember that alcohol flushes not only the water from your system but also the B12 so moderation is the key. My NUT reminded me that spirits (vodka, whiskey ect) do not have carbs its the stuff we mix with them..but stuff like beer, liqueors and stuff are loaded. Also alcohol is wasted calories..like a 4 oz glass of wine has 100 empty calories. Good Luck

What kind of advice do you wish you had in the beginning?
Jakat replied to college_chick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First there are no dumb questions..here or at doctor's office. Ask what their follow up procedures are? Do they have a nutritionist on sight? What about after hour problems, do they have someone on call? What exactly will insurance cover? Get a time frame. The most important piece of advice I got from them was to take an active part in getting every thing they need. My doctor required the last two years of medical records. If you let them do it and don't follow up it will take longer. Keep on top of things. Do your research on line. My surgeon has a posting on utube showing the surgery. Go to Dr. Trace Curry on Utube and look at it (it is graphic as it shows the entire surgery). Good Luck -
How many weeks of liquid?
Jakat replied to LeahMae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
usually only 7-10 days. Then they usually move to puree for 3 weeks. Very important to keep your protein and fluids up. I know it will be difficult, but very important. Good Luck -
yes it can cause air if you are not careful. The biggest reason is that they don't want you to drink to much at one time. It's easier to control to sip than a straw. If you are careful it isn't a problem, but if you slip up it can be painful. Good Luck

Preop diet to shrink liver
Jakat replied to Huntingnurse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my surgeon and I have heard many others do to, make you sign a release that if they can't do surgery lapo then they will do it the old fashion way and open you up. It does suck, but in the whole scheme of things it's only 2 weeks prior and 1 week after. Hang in there...Good Luck -

B-12 Deficiency/anemia? Injections best method?
Jakat replied to sirensiren's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
be careful with the "juicing". I take it you mean fruit juices. Those are very high in carbs. An 8oz glass of OJ has like 28 carbs. The reason for the chewable vitamins is that are stomachs dont produce a lot of acids and can't break down vitamins and minerals like other peoples. That is why our diets are set up like they are. Like butter said it's very important to keep your fluid intake (water) up. the alcohol flushes water out so minimize that and drink 48-60 oz water -
B-12 Deficiency/anemia? Injections best method?
Jakat replied to sirensiren's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
you should have been taking B12 since you were one month. I go with injections once a month. My Doctor said that it is the most effective. You should also be on a multi vitamin, iron, calcium and vitamin d supplements. If not you definitely need to start. You can't just take any vitamins they have to be chewables. Our stomaches cannot absorb the regular tablets and the iron and calcium need to be taken 2 hours apart. Good Luck -

Jakat replied to Ladylaurarose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
try gasxstrips for the gas pain. Also how much are you walking? You need to walk at least 3-4 times a day to keep things moving. The walking helps you get the gas moving to get it out, keeps you from developing bllod clots in your legs and from getting constipated. Also make sure you are getting your 48-64 oz of liquids in. If you have pain at an incession site make sure it's not infected..red, swollen or hot to the touch. If it is call Doctor. I developed two himotomams (sp?) where two sites were a little swollen and sore. The Doc told me it was the blood pooled the the muscle tissue and would just take a little longer to go away. If you have any doubts call the Doc for peace of mind if nothing else.. Good Luck and keep us posted -
Advice Please. 6 months Until Surgery
Jakat replied to lolo1994's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with both above. I didn't ween off caffeine, and boy did i pay for it. It was the worst headache I ever had. DO NOT GO cold turkey. Also the better shape you are in going into surgery the better and quicker recovery time. After surgery you will need to walk, walk , walk this helps in a number of ways..1 you need to get all the gas out of your system that they pump in there to work so the more you more the quicker it comes out..2nd youo need to move so that you don't develop blood clots in your legs and 3rd you need to move so that you don't get constipated. So the more you can walk prior to surgery the easier it will be to do after surgery. Good Luck -

Where are all the Cincinnati Sept Sleevers?
Jakat posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Where as everyone been? How is everyone doing? I am down to 239 from a start of 296. Kinda hit a wall this month..damn holidays. Hope everyone is doing well and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. -
I loved the unjury chocolate. Also my doctor also sells flavored protein water. Unjury also makes an unflavored protein that you can put in juice or crystal lite. They also make a darn good chicken broth. Remember all this stuff isn't going to taste like cake and ice cream.

people handle it differently. Liquids pass right thru the stomach with very little hold time. Once you get to puree and soft you will realize how little you can eat. as they just because you can doesn't mean you should..probably why most of us are the way we are.
