I am not sure about the connection between hernia and your regurgitation. I had no symptoms of a hernia and didn't realize I had one until after surgery and the dr told me he fixed it. The gas is because during laproscopic abdominal surgery, they inflate the abdomen with gas to assist with surgery. It takes time for that gas to dissipate and it can be painful in the process - though not everyone feels it as intensely. It goes away - thankfully! Good luck in your journey. I'm 4 1/2 weeks out and really loving that I did this (though the first week I thought I had lost my mind for what I did! Lol)

Possible pulled muscle?
jengal2012 replied to LovinMe2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happened to me too. Occurred when I would bend over or stand up. Was like a burning stabbing pain that went away after a short period. It went away but I was concerned until I emailed my surgeon. He said as long as it was managed with pain meds (I didn't take any), it should be fine. It did go away but it was annoying for a bit. He did say to call back if it got worse or didn't go away. Might check with your surgeon. -
When to start exercising after surgery
jengal2012 replied to christy38's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First, the obligatory "ask your surgeon". Second, I started walking immediately after surgery, 10 minutes at a time, the up to 30 at home during the second week. When I had my 2 week post-op, my surgeon told me no more cardio right then because I was loosing too fast. He instructed me to do light weights upper and lower body. Absolutely no abdominal work and nothing strenuous. I'm currently doing 3 days/week up upper body light weights, high repetition (10-30 lbs depending on the muscle group, my legs can handle more than my upper body at this point). I had to get back in my gym habit. -

Looking For Sleevers In My Area.

One night. I left around 5 pm on Tuesday. My doc had mentioned I could stay another night if needed but my husband had to work early Wednesday. I really wish I would have stayed one more night but I survived :-) good luck! -

I'm in Corpus and just had my VSG done Monday by Dr. Craig Chang out of Victoria (satellite office in Corpus). I highly recommend him. He is tough/strict, but also compassionate. He knows his stuff and I felt extremely safe in his surgical hands. I have friends who used Dr. Patel in San Antonio and they were happy with him. I do not know anyone close who has used Dr. McDaniel, but word is he is very nice. Where are you doing your surgery with Dr. McDaniel? My BCBS would only pay at Citizens in Victoria. Which was fine because everyone was really nice. Especially my nurses. -
Well, looks like people have different reactions :-) I knew there wasn't a "one size fits all", but I was truly surprised at the pain I still have. It is definitely better, but the aches in my shoulders keep me up at night. Thanks for all the feedback!

I was sleeved on Monday, January 7th. While in there, my dr fixed a small hiatal hernia. I came home last night and the pain has remained fairly intense. My lortab doesn't make it the full 4 hours. I also have difficulty breathing with pain in the diaphragm obviously related to the hernia repair, but I also have pain in my shoulders and between my shoulder blades. Has anyone else had a hiatal hernia repaired (with or without the VSG)? Is the pain supposed to be pretty bad?

I have BCBS and my original handbook said no coverage. When a representative was at my place of employment, I asked and she said sometimes it is covered. So I went ahead and met with a surgeon and they felt it would e covered. I got my approval letter today. Surgery is scheduled for Jan 7th and they said it wouldn't be a problem to have approval so far in advance of the scheduled date. It never hurts to call your plan administrator and ask.
