Did anyone have to put on Xanax to be able to have the surgery?
BigFatLoser replied to Jenah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was not put on Xanax and was able to get it together by the time I got to be hospital, but while in the shower the morning of surgery, I had a panic attack that resulted in hyperventilation that I COULD NOT control, and then he eventually passing out. And I was NOT nervous up until that point! It's like it physiologically hit me so quickly and so hard that I was about to CHANGE THE REST OF MY LIFE in such a huge way. And I'm not usually one to have reactions like that to anything!!! It was so very overwhelming. All I can offer you is the reassurance that it's normal and the advice to try to come to terms wih the change you're about to experience (IN IT ENORMOUS ENTIRETY) by the time your survey date comes. Maybe Ben it won't overwhelm you so much? I don't know. Info believe you can overcome it with some mental work. So sorry you're feelin like this. -

First meal at a restaurant
BigFatLoser replied to cartmansnj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you!!! I'm doing good! My biggest complaint is some nausea because its difficult for me to get in my liquids all the time. And some head hunger!!! Can't wait to get a Protein shake in me. -
I'm so glad!!! Aww I teared. This friggin surgery makes you emotional lol

Preop diet is 100x worse than post op. When people would assure me of this a couple weeks ago, I thought they were nuts. But it's so true. You'll stil struggle with some head hunger post op, but it's so much easier to handle- especially knowing that it's like life and death if you screw it up!!! I'm counting the days til I can have puréed! Lol. But I'm not cheating. I totally cheated pre op. and paid for it big time.

First meal at a restaurant
BigFatLoser replied to cartmansnj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thankfully, I have a fit, but hungry man with a huge appetite. I highly doubt he'd allow my plate to sit there with tons of un-eaten food lol But I'm only a week out. No experience with it yet. -
I totally failed my pre op 5 day clear liquid bowl prep. And I paid for it post op. the gas pain was horrendous. The nausea. Some of the worst days of my life. And it would have been much easier had I stuck to the pre op diet. I gave myself every excuse to cheat. Please don't. It will NOT be worth it to be in so much agony after surgery. Pre op diets exist for a reason even if you don't understand it. Good luck! You can do it.

Holy crap you made my night. Thanks, girl!

I ended up bein allergic to heavy doses of dilaudid while in the hosp. I itched and scratched so much that I bled. It was misery! And yeah, ask your doc but itching in weird places like your palms is definately a side effect of narcotic pain meds.

I'm very thankful for this thread today. I've had a difficult 6th day post op and reading and talking about just one of the many positives that will hopefully come out of this surgery has really taken the edge off of the head hunger, etc. thanks OP and everyone!
