Six Month Anniversary
mom2five replied to bethany1987's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You look awesome! Great job! -
I cringe when someone says "expecially" instead of "especially" Most of my pet peeves are written. For example, when people use an apostrophe to make a word plural and when people use the wrong your and you're. There are plenty more but I usually just cringe inwardly and go on. I homeschool my sons and we go over these common mistakes frequently so that they hopefully won't make them.

I think the OP was being sarcastic. At least that's how I took it. -
The Wls Honeymoon --- You Only Get 1 Chance At It!
mom2five replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great article. So many times I've said "If I could just lose all this weight, I think I could maintain it." so here's my chance. It's a little scary and I know how lazy I am. I am trying to make better habits now (before surgery) especially with exercise. It's nice to know what to expect and that I need to make the most out of the first 6-12 months. It's not the time for procrastinating! -
Today I saw my PCP and had my labwork done that my surgeon requested. I also had my EKG. My surgeon also requested a lung capacity test. I wasn't able to do that test today though because I ran out of time so I will go back in a few days. I also have to have an endoscopy so my surgeon can look at my hiatal hernia, and a sleep study. I have to meet with the psychologist in October and see the NUT twice and then I will get my surgery date! I'm excited... can't wait to get it behind me so I can move on... I was embarrassed doing the EKG because I had to get undressed from the waist up.. I'm just so fat that it was embarrassing and uncomfortable because I don't even get undressed in front of my husband unless its dark in the room.. lol.. But the nurse made me feel more at ease by talking about trying to lose weight the whole time.. she doesn't look very big to me but she said she needs to lose 50 lbs. I wish thats all I had to lose. Anyway, I feel like I am making progress a little at a time..and hopefully I will be sleeved before the year is out! :-D

Things You Can Never Have Again With Sleeve :(
mom2five replied to MK1986's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm still waiting to be sleeved. My doc told me that I will eventually be able to eat/drink whatever I want in moderation. He said its not a diet.. It's a lifestyle change and he doesn't want me to feel deprived. That being said, I think it's an individual thing some people end up not being able to tolerate certain things. It may come and go. And some people decide to give up certain things because they feel those things are detrimental to their new lifestyle. I know people who drink pop and people who eat Pasta at times. Its a very individual thing. -
My surgeon is 2 and a half hours away. height : 5 ft, weight: 270, BMI: 53 Cant wait to get sleeved!

I have anthem bcbs and they will cover a panniculectomy if it is medically necessary. Basically, the skin has to hang down over the pubic area and you have to have documented problems with rashes. I think they will also cover breast procedures under similar conditions; documented rashes, etc. I'm not sure about the breast coverage, but I am positive about the panniculectomy. Edited to add that I am not in Ct. I didn't realize this post was for ppl who are in Ct. LOL

Has Anyone Prepped For Sleeve By Exercising Months Pre-Op?
mom2five replied to Malisima69's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I exercise. Its required by my doc. I'm supposed to diet and exercise for three months leading up to my surgery. And afterwards too, of course. I've exercised off and on since Spring too.. I was trying to lose weight on my own. It didn't work out very well, but exercising does make me feel good. I lift 5 lb weights too. I really want to tone up my arms... I do not want bat wings! I'll probably still have bat wings because my arms are really fat at the top but I'm trying. -
I decided to tell only family members until after surgery. And once I start losing weight, if people ask I will not lie about surgery. Anyway, I told my dad today. I always respect him and really care what he thinks. He said that it's my decision and that if I could do it with just diet and exercise it would be best, but if I can't, he thinks surgery is a good decision and he would like to see me get rid of the weight. My sister in law had vsg about a year ago and is doing great. I think that has a lot to do with how accepting he is about it. I'm so glad he is supportive. <3 So now I have the support of my husband, kids, sister, brothers, and my dad! I think that's all I need until after surgery. Except you guys of course! I love coming here and reading about all of your experiences!

Seriously Worried... Help!
mom2five replied to SleevedNSweet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm bigger than you and worried about skin too. I'm going to exercise and lift weights and use some good moisturizing lotion and hope its not too bad. If it is, I might consider surgery to fix it. -
My surgeon requires 3 months of supervised diet before surgery. It's not the insurance requirement but his requirement. He said programs like Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig count. I haven't done that but I do have about a month and a half of Myfitnesspal from earlier this year. It's detailed with everything I ate and the nutrition information and all my workouts. It has my weight info too. I wonder if he would accept that as part of my 3 months and shorten my diet that I'm on now so I can have surgery sooner. Did anyone else use myfitnesspal for their proof of diet?

Ok thank you. :-) I printed it out and I'm going to take it with me to my next appointment. I'll see if they will use it.

I will pray for your family. I know all about money problems. We had a rough time for a while too b/c my hubby was laid off. I hope it doesn't last much longer for you.

Pear Shaped, Apple Shaped, Hourglass?
mom2five posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've always been pear shaped... well now I'm just kinda ROUND..lol. I was just wondering... Those of you who have met your goal weights, if you were pear/apple etc before, are you still shaped the same? I'm hoping to be more proportionate after my weight loss. (I tell my kids I have the figure of a coca cola bottle...too bad it's a two liter. LOL) -
Innocent Question From My Son
mom2five replied to ArcusX's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My kids say things like that too at times and they don't mean to be hurtful. They are just concerned about me and love me. It's a good thing for them to know not to eat too much cotton candy. :-) My son asked me if my surgery will make me lose weight in my fingers because they are chubby. lol. I think he assumes I'll be skinny when I come home from surgery. -
Not To Ask A Dumb Embarrasing Question But...
mom2five replied to bonbon85's topic in The Gals' Room
I would go to the doctor. Unexplained bleeding can be a sign of different problems or it could be nothing. I don't think it was your hymen though, since you had already had sex a couple times before. I hope everything turns out ok. Take care. :-) -
I saw the surgeon today. It went well. I was weighed and my height was measured. I have to do a 3 month supervised diet with their dietician. It's not required by my insurance but the doctor requires it because they are a center of excellence. I'm actually glad he is requiring it, even though I've been impatient until now. I need this time to get ready. He is going to scope me so he can get a good look at my hiatal hernia. I also have to do a sleep study because I think I have sleep apnea. And he gave me a paper to give my PCP for a bunch of blood tests. I will have to have a psych eval. I have and appointment next month to see the NUT. I had to talk with the exercise coordinator. She measured me and talked to me about exercises. I have to log my exercises and bring it to my next visit. She gave me a stretchy band to use for strength training. The surgeon talked to me about the surgery for a long time and explained all about it. I asked questions and he answered them all. He was very friendly and likeable. He put me at ease. Before I went in, while I was sitting in the waiting room, I was like "What am I doing??" I was thinking about leaving. But Dr Shin put me at ease. He said that I will probably get sleeved in December. I'm excited and nervous! Sorry if none of this makes sense. I'm very tired. I only slept 30 minutes last night. :-/

Height & Weight Chart Using Real People
mom2five replied to nyxa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Really cool. There's nobody for my height/weight. Maybe I should submit my photo. -
Tell them you're on a new diet that only allows liquid for a few days. Or tell them you're not feeling well and need to be on fluids for a few days. Tell them you think you're coming down with something and have no appetite.
-
I heard that its not really hunger pains but excess acid. If you take antacids, it will subside. But what do I know? I'm pre-surgery. lol
-
I did it too when I first made my decision. But I couldn't stand myself so I stopped. Now I eat just normally. But after my first appointment with the surgeon tomorrow (and he records my weight) I think I'm going to start eating better and exercising so that whenever I have surgery I will bounce back quicker and have better habits than I do now.

First Consult With Surgeon Tomorrow!
mom2five posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm excited and nervous! LOL I'm probably silly for being nervous but this is the first big step in a major life changing event. I've been researching everything and I guess my biggest concern right now is that my insurance will have some time consuming requirements. I have a printout of the policy reguarding vsg. I'm just hoping its accurate. If so, I won't have to do a six month diet. I will update after my appointment tomorrow! :-D
