What was your first pureed meal?
mom2five replied to bmbrush413's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was refried beans with cheese... I could only eat a couple tiny bites, but I loved it!! -
Tuna salad, egg salad, refried beans with cheese and sour cream... I bought some low carb crackers that I spread the tuna or egg salad on sometimes. Chili with cheese melted in it. I make variations of Shelly's Baked Ricotta for lunch sometimes... I make single servings so I don't waste so much. If you aren't familiar with that it is on this page http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html. I know it is a pureed food page, but just don't puree it anymore... It is still really good and I put different things in it sometimes.

mom2five replied to mom2five's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you! :-) I'm keeping my carbs below 40 if I can and my protein above 60 if I can... My calories are usually around 650.. sometimes less. My sleeve is really small. I can only eat about an ounce at a time before I feel uncomfortable. I've been exercising almost every day.. doing about 50 minutes of cardio. -

How to count calories/protein in homemade food
mom2five replied to Denn's topic in Food and Nutrition
The way I do it is I calculate the calories and other nutrition info (like carbs and protein) in each ingredient I put in the food. Then I total it all up and have the total calories (carbs, protein) for the entire dish. Then I figure out how many servings I have all together...(by measuring it out in cups or whatever size portions I am using. Once I figure out how many servings I have all together, I divide my calories (carbs, protein) by that number... so then I have my nutrition information per serving. So, say I have 500 calories in the entire dish, and I've determined I have 5 one cup servings. I divide the 500 calories by the 5 servings, and I have 100 calories per one cup serving... Does this make sense? -
Wendys jr cb 3 wks out
mom2five replied to dixiejuju's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 10 weeks out and there's no way I could eat that. This is how I've felt about my surgery and my sleeve... Just because you CAN eat something, doesn't mean you SHOULD.. If I was going to attempt that burger, I would have left the bread off and eaten the meat and cheese with a fork, taking breaks between each bite to wait for feelings of fullness. As soon as I feel full, I stop. I usually eat about an ounce or maybe a little more. Burping is a sign of fullness... if you are burping, you should stop eating. Some people get a hiccup... I notice that I get a hiccup too but it is usually after I stop eating. I've also noticed that sometimes I'm eating something that tastes really good and I want to finish it, but my sleeve says STOP.. my head says FINISH IT! But, I get this feeling of satisfaction and even though my brain wants the food, I'm satisfied so I have to make myself quit! We just need to eat slow so that we don't miss these signals. If we eat fast, we will overeat every time. -
How are you able to drink all the liquid they recommend?
mom2five replied to MOBD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 10 weeks out... I have just recently been able to get nearly 64 oz of Water per day. Recently I noticed that I can take 2 or 3 drinks of water at a time, if I am careful, without it hurting. Early on, it seemed that warm liquids went down easier, but now I put flavor packets in my water and stick it in the freezer until it is slushy. That is how I am able to drink all my water... the colder the better! Flavoring makes it easier too. I LOVE the orange crush flavor packets.. They are my favorite. If you are getting 40 oz at 3 weeks out, you are doing GREAT! -
Liquid phase did yu cheat
mom2five replied to Vsgmommy19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, during the liquid stage, I could barely drink water... there's no way I could've had anything more than that. I was so afraid of hurting my new sleeve... I just wanted to heal. I was told that water was the most important thing in that early stage so I concentrated on that.. -
Two of my mini goals are to lose 50 lbs and to have less than 100 to lose. As of this morning, I have lost 51 pounds and I have 98 to go! I'm really excited! I am 9 weeks out from surgery and it was the best decision I've ever made. I can't wait to lose the rest of my weight! :-)

I've met 2 mini goals! Yay Me!

I've met 2 mini goals! Yay Me!
mom2five replied to mom2five's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Well, I had 150 to lose, so I split it up into more manageable chunks. My next mini goal is 75 pounds lost. At that point, I will be halfway to my ultimate goal! I can't wait! :-) -
I hit my first mini goal! 50 pounds lost!! AND I only have 99 pounds left to lose! I'm so excited!

Two weeks post op and eating nearly the "maximum"
mom2five replied to SerendipityHappens's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
At two weeks, I was unable to eat even half an ounce of anything. I've always had great restriction. Now, at 9 weeks out, I can eat about an ounce of most things. Some things, I can't even eat that much. I've never eaten a whole egg at all since surgery. I'm thinking that maybe you are able to eat that much because your stomach still hasn't healed and maybe you can't feel the fullness at this stage. When I was at that stage, and even now, I weigh my food. I weigh out an ounce.. that is what I will allow myself to eat. If I eat it all, I usually feel really satisfied or even full... but many times I can't even finish it. With that being said, we are all different and our stomachs/sleeves are different sizes. As long as you are following your doctor's instructions, I'm sure you will be fine. -
6 months since surgery

You look great! How tall are you? My goal weight is 125... I am only 5ft tall and 125 is at the top of my normal BMI range. -
I know I still have a long way to go, but I'm excited about my weight loss so far. I am very happy about my decision to have VSG. I feel so much better. I'm thoroughly enjoying this process. Here are some pics. This first pic is me a couple years ago at nearly my highest weight of 274 (on the left) and me a couple weeks ago at around 230 (on the right). This pic is me in May of 2012 at my highest weight of 274 (on the left) and me yesterday at 227 (on the right)

How about protein powder in diet sprite?
mom2five replied to Jenny12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Imagining mixing powder to sprite sounds difficult.. Did it actually mix well? -
Yes, as long as you puree it. You will get lots of protein with both the tuna and the egg.. Try adding a little plain greek yogurt instead of mayo and you will get even more protein! I usually just use the mayo, but I thought I'd pass that along because I've heard of other ppl doing it. :-)

Am I Hungry or Is This Just Gas?
mom2five replied to deli89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This video really helped me understand why I get hunger sensations from time to time. -
My sister in law had sleeve surgery a year and a half ago. The doctor told her she had one of the biggest stomachs he had ever seen. I don't think he gave any details though. I have the same doctor and he didn't say anything like that to me. She has lost over 100 lbs, so I don't think it impacted her ability to lose weight.

I have those pains too.. I'm 6 weeks out. I refuse to believe it is really hunger because it happens after I eat.. anytime actually. I had seen a lot of posts before my surgery where people thought they were feeling hunger pains but it was really stomach acid, so that is what I always have thought this was... I tried gas-x strips. I put one in my mouth when I feel one of those pains and it really helps!

Wow! I'm glad they got it! Good luck on the follow up! -
My doctor suggests that we get one. I have one. It has my name on it and Gastric Sleeve. It says caution with NG tubes and NSAIDS... and has my doctor's name on it.
