  1. Same here!! I can easily drink 1/2 to 1 cup of soup (no chunks) in about half an hour and I feel fine. I'm worried becuase I've been reading posts of people who are only allowed 2-4 oz at time. This is wonderful, knowledgeable group of people, I'm sure they will set us straight. :-)
  2. No eggs!!!! Others are more experienced here and will guide you, but I do know that you shouldn't eat eggs! I'm on one week Clear liquids, 2 weeks full liquids (anything pourable) and then soft foods such as eggs. Good luck!

    Getting Out Of Bed.

I laid flat on my back for the first week. Then was able to lay on my right side with pillows supporting my tummy. The left side took a few more days. The trick is to really tuck that pillow under your belly so your belly is supported and gravity doesn't pull on it.

    Getting Out Of Bed.

It's hard! Lots of pillows. Rolling to my side and slowly sit up. I ask for help if anyone is home. The worst for me was getting up & down off the toilet. Oucheeee!!!

    Frustrated!

I wouldn't allow anyone to visit me in the hospital. People were annoyed, but I don't care. This is MY journey. My mom sent me a get well card and wrote 'We'll go out for lunch and celebrate!!'. Oh boy...I didn't know whether to laugh or cry......

    I Curse You Steri Strips!

I hear ya! I'm also allergic to Adhesives. I wear a red ALERGIC TO ADHESIVES wrist band when in the hospital and the nurses put signs on my door and above my bed. And yet, every morning after my blood draw the tech would try to put a regular bandaide on me!!! I really have to be hyper-vigilant. Along w oral Benedryl, get topical extra strength cream in a tube. You can put it one your tummy every hour or so, just be careful with it getting into any incisons that haven't formed a scab. Good luck! Judy

    This Surgery Does Work, Right?

The first four days were hard to keep up my fluids, but I hate that dry thirsty feeling in my mouth, so I just sip all day. You need to find what goes down really easily. For me, I discovered that I could drink warm liquids pretty easily but not cold. My sister spent a few days with me post-op and just kept bringing me different drinks until I had about 5 that I like and now I rotate them. When I was able to add full fliuds earlier this week, I started with blending creamy Soups with my submerssion blender. I use Water instead of milk so it's easier to swallow. Yummy. When I first started liquids at home, I'd take a big gulp and THEN I'd rememeber, opps, SMALL sips. So i'd keep it in my mouth and slowly let it go down my throat. I found I was able to up my intake that way. Small sips take FOREVER and I get bored easily. :-) When I get that little full feeling, I stop. When It goes away, I start again. If I ignore that warning signal, I pay for it in pain. So I'm really careful. It is a 24/7 job right now and I am doing nothing else but taking care of myself. Keep sippinng! Judy
  8. Hi Fellow Sleevers, So.....I'm stumped! I was sleeved 8/21. I was 220 the morning before surgery. I came home 3 days later & weighed 218. Slowly my weight has been creeping up and this morning I am 223!!!! And i've lost no inches. Nada!! I did lose 30 pounds pre-op. So....any idea what's going on? I drink 3 Protein shakes a day (premier) and between those I easily get my 64oz of Water w chicken broth, crytsal light, and water. I have 2 sugar free vanilla puddings a day. My only thought is that maybe when I wasn't getting any nourishment in the hospital my body jumped into starvation mode, which thanks to my past behavoirs, my body can go into very easily. I'm ok being a slow loser. I'm not ok going through all this for it not to work! That's never happened...right? :-) Judy

    This Surgery Does Work, Right?

Thanks for all your answers. My brain knows this is going to work, but when I'm in a weak moment and I read all these drastic weight losses right out of the starting gate, it's a bit disconcerting. I hadn't stepped on the scale for several days or gotten dressed in street clothes since my surgery. Yesterday I had an appt and while getting dressed I had to pull my 'fat' pants out again. I was a bit bummed, but I figured my tummy is probabaly still swollen. Then this morning I stepped on the scale and holy toledo batman!! The scale went the wrong way. Rootman, thanks for your explanarion. I guess in the past I've always broken the starvartion mode by overeating calories. Can't do that anymore! Thank goodness. Thanks again to everyone here! Judy
  10. Lol! You and I posted at the same time, and it's almost about the same problem. It just seems so odd to gain weight after surgery when so many people are dropping pounds like crazy!! As long as this process eventually works, I'm ok. Can you guys imagine if it didn't?? Yikes!! I had a dream last nite that my 'plumbing' was rewired and it Frankenstienish! And no, I hadn't taken an Ambien. We should start a thread for 'Opposite of Losers: Gainers!'. :-)

    Hello Puree!

Mensch, let us know how your appt w the doc goes. I've been following your progress. :-)
  12. I'm so sorry that you've had a rough time. Everything that our fellow slevers have told you is excellent advice, please do what they suggest. Remember, food can be an addiction, yet we need it to survive, so that makes it extra hard for us to deal with. Did you see a mental heatlh person prior to your surgery? A good one would have spotted where your potential downfalls are and give you tools to help you. Families can be SO distructive!! Can you stay with a friend for a few weeks? It is going to be really hard for you, and them, to break the patterns of behavoir that put you in this position in the first place. If you can afford it, I'd strongly suggest that you see a mental health doc once or twice a week for a few months until you get stronger & learn behavoir skills. Good luck, and please give us updates.

    I'm Confused

Being thirsty is the first sign that you aren't getting enough liquids. I was really thirsty the 3rd & 4th day (i was home from the hospital.). I did the best I could, but it wasn't till the 5th day that I was able to get enough fluids. My sis came to help me, and she went to the store and bought every clear liquid imaginable and gave me sample cups. Warm chicken broth & SF OceanSpray Cranberry were what finally worked. And walking. Walking. Walking. Walking. :-) It will get better!

Coolbreeze-what brand of popsicals do you get? I've yet to find a brand that I enjoy. Thanks!

    Hello Puree!

BTW, I bought a submersible blender yesterday at costco for $28. Best purchase ever!!! I blended cream of brocolli Soup into a total liquid in a minute, no chunks. And it tasted exactly the same. Today I'm going to the store and buying different chunky Soups and gonna blend my way thru this phase. :-) Waterlogged in Texas! :-)

    Hello Puree!

LOL!!! Slooshy & waterlogged!! Boy, can I relate! I'm on week one of Full liquids ( sleeved 8/21) and those words are perfect! I'm trying to be creative....but there's really only so much one can do on liquids. Congrats on the weight & inches loss!!! I'm seeing inches, but the scale is stuck.

    Just Decided To Do This

Hi! Welcome to our community! I was sleeved on August 21st. I had to go through 4 months of pre-op stuff. Seeing a nutritionist and a mental health doc once a month. I was a bit impatient at first until I realized that I should take advantage of the guidance. I'm fat for a reason and more support would help me be more successful. I lost 30 pounds pre-op and have lost 0 since my surgery. I'm bummed, but I the NUT warned me that my body needed to step back and reboot itself during seveal phases of this journey. And the mental health doc gave me tools to use to not get frustated when I don't lose. So, whatever hoops you need to go thru, rememeber, they are in place to help you succeed, and not be a failure. Good luck!!

    Pureed Stage

I just bought a submersion blender. $28 at costco. I am one week out and can have full liquids. Last nite I had to strain my soup. Tonite I got out the blender and in a minute or so had a smooth, no chunks, pure liquid soup. With ALL the yummy flavors. I strongly suggest you look into investing in something that will enable you to puree your food. And at this stage I'm not too worried about carbs. We need to concentrate on how to eat, what we feel, how much to eat before we get sick. What we eat will come soon enough. Just make sure to get all your Protein in. Good luck!
  19. Can't find any decent SF popsicals!!! Any suggestions?

    Complications After Surgery.

Oh no! This is everyone'd fear. Jennhlp is right, do everything that you are told. Blood clots are deadly. SO glad that you didn't wait around and that you went to the ER. Keep getting better & stronger!!
  21. - feel healthy and in control of my health again - be able to buy clothes that fit me in any store, especially when traveling! (I needed a sweatshirt in Canada one time and nothing fit me. Since then I've always overpacked when traveling.) - be able to wake up with the birds chirping and last all day w/o a nap. - pass my dog training certification and be able to physically work with dogs w/o my fat getting in the way - do the competitive dog agility circuit. :-)

    Help On Weight Loss

What was your surgery weight? What is your weight now? I think it really depends on how much you need to lose. Those who are heavier will lose more weight pretty quickly as oppossed to those who 'only' need to lose around 60-80. How do YOU feel?
  23. I must be an odd ball. My first 3 days i did have problems drinking. But now, at only 8 days out, I have no problems drinking. I can't chug, but i never was a chugger; I can take decent sips. I'm trying to be very careful because I don't want to overload my new sleeve!! I kinda wish that I did feel uncomfortable. I'm supposed to take an hour to drink my 11oz protein shake. Last night I was watching TV and drinking my shake. To my horror, I drank it in 10 minutes. I wasn't drinking mindfully. I was so disapointed in myself and worried that I hurt my tender sleeve. I had no ill effects from it though.

    Sleeved August 25Th

I was sleeved the 21st. Every day is better, but I think the real turning point was the 6th day out. I just woke up feeling much better. I've really focused on drinking 64 oz daily and i think thats made a huge difference in how i feel. Getting dehydrated causes nausea and a bunch of other issues. Yesterday I was allowed full liquids so I've been concentrating on getting 60 grams of protein so my energy level can come back. I'm a bit worried because I haven't lost any wieght since I was sleeved. But I lost 30 pounds in 3 months pre-op, so I'm pretty sure my body is just trying to figure out what happened. Take things slowly, don't push and overdo things. Right now staying hydrated and healing are your two most important jobs.
