Hi Group, I'm 4 weeks out today and I've had too much time on my hands today apparently because I keep having all these questions.... When we dieted 'pre-sleeve' and didn't eat enough we went into starvation mode and messed up our metabolism. Why doesn't that happen with the sleeve? Thanks for humoring my confused state today. :-) I think I need to get back to work soon!! Lol!

I'm in a pickle. :-). I am allergic to large amounts of Vitamin A. Even as a kid if I ate too many carrots I'd break out in a rash. It's a bit better now that I'm in my 50's, but I still can't take large amounts of A. So....does anyone have any suggestions for a multi-vit that isn't crazy high in A? Thanks!

What do the colored dots mean on our avitars/photos? Some are green, some red?

Starvation Mode W Sleevers?
doxieville replied to doxieville's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
iegal: i've got a great post-op diet plan, that's not the question. However, I appreciate your post because it is a good point. My question is if we are in starvation mode as sleevers why are we burning fat when we were not pre-sleeve? We were hoarding our fat. Maybe its because we can sustain starvation mode longer with a sleeve so our body finally gives up? -

Chia Seed Users - Step On In...

Clear dirt jelly works for me! I was using them during one of my 'pre-sleeve' health kicks and thought they had to always be pre-soaked. Thanks for setting me straight. -

Do they have to be pre-soaked before putting in puddings? -
LOL! Welcome to the world of Sleevers. :-). As you progress you will see how varied our surgoens & protocols are. The best advice is to follow your surgeons, of course. As regard to your question: it is really, IMHO, a personal preference. Some people feel that they won't be able to restrict themselves from their fav foods so they'd rather just stay away from it. I'm like that with 7-up. I LOVE 7-up and know if i start back up that it could easily become a slider food for me.

I have a really good NUT. Granted, she's a bit ditzy, but she knows her stuff. My FIRST appointment I was going on about how much I'd miss my fav foods. She really explained things well to me. She said that the sleeve isn't a tool that you can only eat certain things. My fav is Pasta alfredo and she guaranteed me that when I hit maintance, I CAN have it. She said even now while I'm losing I can have a bite or two once in awhile. She doesn't agree with any foods being 'bad' foods. Keeping that in mind, she coaches me once a month and I went to a therapist for awhile to work on my food issues. I am now very secure in knowing that my sleeve and my brain will be able to stop me from overeating & overindulging. All the pre-op counseling was a pain, but i can honestly say that even at just 4 weeks postop, I think it made things easier for me. I never felt that food abandoned me or that i needed a food funeral. Please keep in mind that this is MY experience. We are all different.

Hi Wonderful Sleevers; I keep reading 'Don't graze!!'. Heck, if I don't graze I don't get my Protein & liquid in. I'm on full foods now and it takes me a good 45 minites to eat, or about an hour to finish a Protein Drink. If I don't eat or drink every few hours, I don't get my quota in. And I really prefer to be eating, not drinking, most of my protein. So can someone please explain what grazing truly means? Thanks!!
-
I know!!! It does seem rather disjointed. :-)

I accidently posted a question about what is Grazing in the pre-op section. Opps! So I'll ask here too. What exactly IS grazing? I prefer to eat my Protein rather than drink it. But it takes my about 45 minutes to eat, or about an hour to drink a shake. By the time i'm done, about an hour or so later its time to start again. Esp when trying to get 64oz of liquid in! So it seems like i'm eating/drinking all the time. That sure seems like grazing to me, and isnt that a 'no-no?'. Thanks!!

Hah! Thanks BTB!! ( like your new handle? Lol!) 6 years...thruuppppp!!! :-)

CaTracks, Ok- that makes sense! I am tracking on MFP, so I'm not mindlessly eating. Geesh, this is a darn full time job!! Just when i think i have it all figured out something else pops up! Thanks to all of you guys! Great group!

ButterTheBean; Today I'm four weeks out! Yay!!! No, not Water, but other things that could count as liquid like pudding or posicals, although I'm trying to back off from those. You are right, after 4oz of a Protein shake i AM full, but i keep at it bcs I need the protein & liquid. I know I'm getting all my protein in, but i've started to lapse on my liquids and thats not good. So i was thinking of adding tea (w creamer) and more substantial (and less boring) than water. But would those count as grazing? I guess, to me, my mouth is constantly eating or sipping something.....and it kinda feels like grazing, but I guess it depends on what goes in? Thanks! (to you & everyone)

LOL!! I USED to do that!!! :-)

Opps! I meant to post this in the post-op. sorry!!

Robotic Sleeve? Anyone

I'm having my gall bladder removed by Da 'Vinci in November. Surgeon has been doing it for about a year. Its supposed to be much faster w easier recovery. -
August Sleeves?!
doxieville replied to gettinMeBack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I'm 4 weeks out. Surgery was 8/21. I'd have to look up what I was at certain times because I really don't remember! I just know i'm losing. It's sporatic, but it's working. First weight in June 2012: 253 Today's weight: 212 I lost about 30 preop, BUT I would not have lost that amount w/o pre-op counseling from surgeon, NUT and Physce. So for ME, it's all inclusive and I consider the sleeve a success starting in June, not just the day of surgery. :-) -
Pain On Left Side 12 Days Post Op

HOW did that happen?? -
...and I gained 8 pounds!!!! Really!! , this happened yesterday. He was cleaning (yah, he's a keeper) and moved my electronic scale. I weigh myself every monday. I got on it this morning and I was up 8 pounds from last week. Then I noticed the scale was in a different place. So I decided to try an experiment. I put it in several places around my huge tile bathroom. My weight ranged from 212 to 230!!! I had to chuckle. So....if I want to feel skinnier, weigh in this corner....feeling fat today? This corner!!! It was funny....but maybe you had to be there....but, then again I was naked as a jaybird so maybe not. :-). And yes, i know all the rules. Don't go by the scale only (i don't!). And to really keep things real you need to weigh on the same scale, in the same spot...etc. I just wanted to share my chuckle this morning with all of of sleever buddies. :-)

There's a thread here about losing friendships over the Sleeve. All women (i think) are weighing (haha!) in. I'd really like to know if guys have the same issue. And do you tell people? Thanks!! Judy
