    African American Sleevers

If you have questions about medications..you can ask for others people experience with meds and vitaminns and nutrition. But please refer to you Dr. before you change anything. i would say to the Dr. I heard 1500mg was the limit on Calcium, but you have me at 3500mg why? and is this dosage safe for me? After you have your surgery you will have a full cbc lab done on a regular basis. Get a copy for yourself and go over any concerns you have once the doctor explains the lab jargon. i get a copy of mine about 30 minutes before my appt. i go over it...if any thing says low or high i discuss with my doctor how to correct it. For instance i had been taking b-12 supplements, but when i got my labs my b-12 was off the charts high..i had been taking one 2500mcg a day..obviously i found out my nutrition and body supply enough combined with the flintstone chewable. and i didn't need extra..but I did need vitamin D. So i take less b12 and more take more vitamin D. get a baseline copy of your labs to see where you are at pre surgery. After surgery take your meds and vitamins as you are directed. and keep and eye on your labs and discuss changes with your Dr. based on your lab reports. Just my humble opinion.

I broil my fish as well. I use Mrs. Dash seasonings...most of the time lemon pepper and some real lemon powder. As for my shrimp, I use the frozen ready to eat med sized now but I did start out smaller.i just rinse the ice off pat them dry and eat them with a half a tablespoon of Walden farms 0 calorie seafood sauce and I can eat about 4 to 6 of those. Walden farms makes 0 calorie and sugar free products like salad dressing, BBQ sauce, etc.been a life saver.

I have not... Let me say it again....have not ever regretted this surgery! Type 2 diabetes gone! High blood pressure gone! From size 24 to size 16 and I am 3 months out on the 26th. I am still losing. My swelling was gone by 6 weeks. I feel good about myself, some friends were supportive and those who where not or who where not supportive of my choices I chose not to deal with or i told them to mind their own business. last thing I needed was negativity. Do what your nutrition and surgical team tell you to the best of your ability. It may be challenging at first. But as your body heals it will get better.Learn and practice eating slower. The hardest thing I had to get used to is that I had to eat slower than others. If you eat too fast you end up taking in too much food and may throw it up. You'll learn those I'm full signals quite quickly. I remember when I could go to Red lobster and eat a whole plate of shrimps now just a little and I am full. I managed to nibble off hubby's plate and save enough money for a cruise to Jamaica. Stay positive..keep ya head on straight. Keep haters at a distance, follow your doctors nutrition guide..and exercise. You got this.

Hey you are looking great! Just think! A few months ago this was all paperwork Dr. appts, meetings, and classes. I will upload some picks next week that are clearer. Was pulling for SF since hubbies team was not playing. I went to support group Thursday night. Terry did not recognize me..lol.i don't even think Dr. Phluke recognized me at first. So I know I am changing. I am 181 and plan on being well into my 170's before the end of the month. I have removed 75% of clothing from my closet. Keep up the good work!

You'll do just fine. Everybody experiences the process differently. The final result off seeing the scale move I the other direction outweighs any discomfort you will go through. I am recently sleeved so some of the blogs I wrote some helpful advice about the pre op process so read back through a few as I post every week or so. Even though I read some post myself about not buying all the different protein shakes and stocking up for it I did it anyway.and ended up spending way too much money. Save your receipts for what ever you buy in preparation because your taste buds may change and what you liked before the sleeve you may not like after. That includes jello favors , pudding favors, soup flavors, vanilla versus chocolate protein shake etc. Before and after surgery, you gotta have a good support system, friends who will not try and sabotage you. The week before my surgery I never got so many gift cards to my favorite places to eat .And advice on food recipes like smoky cheddar cheese taste real good in Mac n cheese. I felt like da** you know I am about to get sleeved. I had to address people in a positive manner but stay true to my conviction that this is the correct path for me. I no longer have blood pressure meds. I no longer have diabetes type 2., and I am going from one side of Catos Fashion to the other, one side of dress barn to the other lol. I feel good about that small victory. My husband did not have a problem with my weight before the sleeve,he just wanted me to get healthier but weightloss is giving me a little more confidence and he is reaping the benefit and loving it I am also more approachable and because my physical appearance is changing people are willing to engage in conversation with me more. I have made some friends outside of "my peeps". You do not live in a bubble. You still gotta deal with those who don't have a eating problem and or who like to eat. I was most surprised at the lack of support from my own mother. And she can get down in the kitchen, I like the sleeve because as I get farther out from surgery I know I can still eat some of her amazing cooking ..just less of it and I make smarter choices. She is understanding everyone has there own path in life and she is coming around. I am still learning to play with my food in place of eating at the same speed as my husband. My portions are a lot smaller now. If I eat at the same pace as he does, my sleeve will become uncomfortable. What to do in place of eating? What will you do for fun? What else gives you pleasure besides food? I am discovering lots of things like to do. Motorcycle riding, hockey, jazz festivals. I am going on a cruise to Jamaica with friends. Sorry I am long winded..I just wanted to share my story. Even though I take vitamins and had to learn to keep up with my liquid and protein intake. Even though going from a regular diet to a high protein low carb diet put my body into "what no carbohydrates?shock" the first few days of the pre op diet. I feel for me the surgery was a blessing, mentally, physically and spiritually. Have a wonderful day.

Did the hospital give you Zofran or promethizine when they discharged you? It will stop the nausea. Also I eat fully fit deli turkey. It is 97% fat free. I put half a slice of the light laughing cow cheese in the middle and roll it up like a cigar. I also do it with deli rotisserie chicken. I can eat canned tuna chicken and salmon. I tried to eat a 3 oz chicken cutlet and even though I chewed it to death, I had unsettling restriction. I haven't eaten red meat yet. I am in phase 4.

My hubby and I been on the motorcycle this weekend. It was nice weather here in San Antonio and it was just sitting there saying ride me. Didn't have any challenges at all post sleeve. I took plenty of water and liquid protein and stopped every half hour to hydrate. I am glad to be able to ride again. Strange phenomena, I have been gripping my shoe insides with my toes..are your feet suppose to get smaller? And I too have joined the boobies went south club..lol

Today was the first time I put too much in my sleeve. Basically ate to fast. Sitting here watching love and hip hop and not paying attention putting the spoon in my mouth like I was on automatic. Then all of sudden I felt the overwhelming urge to burp or belch, but I couldnt do it. I basically started breathing out of my mouth. I stood up and started walking around. I managed a small burp. After and 5 minutes it started letting up but the pressure lasted for a good 20 minutes. Ugghhh I am still on phase 3 and got a big wake up call. SLOW YOUR ROLL!!!
