Yep. I live right on the lake across the bridge!
-
I'm in Huffman. 1960 East on Lake Houston! 1 week post op. Down 24 lbs since started pre-op. I KNOW where Tarkington is! Dr. Felix Spiegel University General, nice hospital and specialty one. He did my daughter's sleeve a year ago. She is right at goal about 100 down! Now to get my granddaughter on board.

I am only 1 week post op but had tremendous success on post op and am down 24 lbs! Today I put on some pants that were really uncomfortable a few weeks ago and they are loose! Decided to clean out my closet. But there is something wrong with my brain! I look at things and think, I should keep this for a puffy day or in case I gain. GUESS WHAT? I am NOT going to gain again! You should see how much I pulled out of that closet. Not wasting anytime it all goes to the Goodwill tomorrow! I am getting rid of the excess...weight and clothes! I am loving this!

Diabetic Sleevers
LibbyLou replied to Im done mooing.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the R en Y probably does work better/faster for diabetes due to the malabsorption factor. Less sugar absorbed, lower blood sugar? JMHO Still sooo glad I am sleeved! -
Nausea is easily controlled with meds. Pain, too. Pain meds 2x since home. 1 week post op. You Got This! Good luck.

Diabetic Sleevers
LibbyLou replied to Im done mooing.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told the sleeve would not get me off my diabetes meds. I think differently. I have cut in half my dosage of mixed insulin to one shot of long acting with better results. I am on 17th day of liquid (pre and post op) down 23 lbs. That's got to help! They tried to get me to do the DS w/sleeve which I would have considered but ins. would not pay. Would never do R E Y... I think wt loss and exercise will be the key. If I still have to take meds I am sure it will change to oral eventually. -
Emotional Vampires & Toxic People

Friends who run to you when they need a shoulder but never have time to listen when you need one. Never said a word about it just quietly dismissed them from my life. -
Week 24 (Or 6 Months Post Op With Pictures)
LibbyLou commented on mrsteacher's blog entry in Sleeved by Dr. Kelly in Mexico
You look great. You should be very proud. -
I am post op and 20 lbs down. I am making a list of all the things I have avoided and soon we will be doing them all! Tubing on the river, fairs and rides, trying ice skating (in Texas lol), going to the rodeo in 'real' jeans. I can't wait!!!! I am sorry for your horrible experience, we ALL have them. Try to use it as a tool to keep you on track. I can't wait to go to my 40th HS reunion, I skipped 20 and 30 after at the 10 year reunion this loser who I was always nice to...when no one else was... says, "Well, it looks like you have gained some weight"...We ALL have them.

Did/does Anyone Else Feel This Way?
LibbyLou replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hilarious! WE will do this. I keep wondering why I can drink so much? Liquids only but still. I can drink 1/2 cup. Is that strange. dr. follow up this week. -
Are you measurements changing? Muscle weighs more than fat and it seems like you are doing enough to be adding muscle. Just wondering. I saw it happen alot when I owned a Curves franchise.

Obesity is the last of the 'politically correct' prejudices. It's so true. The sad thing about having a food problem is that everyone can see your problem. Almost all other human 'problems' can be hidden from the general population, drug abuse, sex addicts, alcoholics, racists whatever...but obesity is obvious to others what your problem is and so everyone feels it is ok to comment on it or feel superior to those who struggle. Here's what I never understood...why are you superior if you are an alcoholic or a smoker or a drug abuser? No one ever has to smoke, drink alcohol or do drugs but we all HAVE to eat. Its easier to give up something completely than to 'limit' it. I have been obese all my adult life. It has held me back in soooo many ways. I hope losing this excess weight will help me to 'dare' to do some of those things I should have done a long time ago. Here's to new horizons!

Fear Of Failure
LibbyLou replied to SoonToBeThinKAT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
dlinnh, Yes, I lost 20 lbs on the pre op. I followed it faithfully and I have about 100 to go (not decided yet). I think now I am only about 15 down because I am puffy from the fluids in the hospital. I only drank very high protein/low carb shakes and soups. Honesty, I think it was the hardest part so far, at least for my poor hubby when i went into carb withdrawal! Good luck to all, we can do this! -
Fear Of Failure
LibbyLou replied to SoonToBeThinKAT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 9/6, two nights in the hospital and now home. The hardest thing was the post op 10 day liquid diet. The first few days with almost no carbs made me a little crazy and then by day 10 I was worn out (staying at the hospital with my 92 yo dad overnight, did not help). I think the tiredness was mostly emotional. Good news? I lost 20 lbs. on post op! I am feeling ok. Slept in my bed, no meds except tylenol since I left hospital. Drinking EAS shakes. Little bit at a time. Bedroom upstairs, no problem. I think the meds were holding me down. . I gained some weight in the hospital, was puffed up by the fluids, not worried. It will go on its own. Some pain between the ribs and under the shoulders but walking on the treadmill for short time often. Trying to move around a bit. I have a very high pain tolerance so that helps alot. I wish you all the best! -
Confirmed my date, started the 10 day liquids on Monday, pre admit tomorrow. Looks like everyone will be seeing less of me soon!
-
I wake up crying, like a baby...They say that usually happens with children. I think it is because I am pretty tensed up most of the time and my body finally gets to relax. As long as I wake up! We will know tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.

Haven't posted much since I made the 'big' decision! Made it through day 9 of pre op liquids. Feeling a little fuzzy-headed but seems to be clearing. The last 3 days have been spent mostly in the hospital with my 92 year old dad. Can I say that cutting up his roast beef with vegs. without a taste was an act of sheer willpower? NEVER has hospital food looked like such a wonderful gourmet meal! LOL! I have done it and to be true to myself, not one cheat. Not even a taste. My reason for the sleeve is that I have lost and gained a small city over my lifetime. This time, I have a tool to help me not to fail. My daughter had this surgery last year, same dr/hospital. She has done really well and lost close to 100 lbs. she is very close to goal. She's soooo glad she did it. She is an RN and will be here for my surgery (and to show off to the surgeon herself). My supportive husband and love of my life will be with me, too. He has been so good not to cook and to take over meals for our grandson we are raising. So wish me luck and keep me in your prayers! I will return the favor. libbylou

Good news Annie! The big picture is going to be a smaller picture real soon. I am on day 5 of 10 pre op. Not one cheat and feeling ok, not grand but doable!

To Cruise Or Not To Cruise?
LibbyLou replied to nicole836's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Buy a few things and BUY MORE on your trip!!! Congrats and good luck! -
shakes high in protein seem to keep the hunger away best. (but not all are tasty) . Too many carbs/sugars will keep you hungry IMHO. Day 4 almost done, 6 to go.
-
Thanks! WE GOT THIS!!!!!
-
Good luck! Starting day 4 of 10! So far, so good. Hubby and gson ate KFC last night. I had a shake. I feel pretty 'in control'. Good luck all!
-
I have thought about the 'if I can do this now...why do I need a sleeve' My answer is because once I lose it...I don't want to ever have to do it again. I think with a little effort and the sleeve, one more time will be all I need!
