I had the very same thing. It may have gone on to some degree for about 2 days. I figured it was just my body adjusting to everything.

I just wanted to say to those who are a bit worried about not getting their water in the first few days after the procedure that I had the same problem. I just drank what I was comfortable with for the first few days. Broth and Jello has water, too, I figured. Each day I was able to drink more until on the 6th day (yesterday) I got it all in with no problem. I think it's just so ingrained from the pre-op stage that we tend to worry when I doesn't happen so easily. Just thought I'd mention it. :-)

Sue11: I'm in Missouri with Dr. Edwards. I'm on day 6 post-op and doing full liquids for at least another 5 days. The shakes I use only need water added, so milk isn't an issue there. I also use the Advantedge Lo-Carb premixed drinks. Those go down nice and smooth after the procedure. I like all 3 flavors, too. I've never been a milk drinker (well, since I grew up lol) but on this full liquid diet...and after 3 WEEKS of it *pulls hair* just about anything that is new and different on the list sounds good. :-) So I asked Hubby to take me to Braum's. They had some nice SF FF yogurts there also. I used the milk this morning to make some cream of asparagus soup. I thin sliced some fresh asparagus and steamed it, then added it to the blender along with a scoop of unflavored whey, a can of Campbell's 98% FF cream of celery soup and 1.5 Cups of the FF milk. It made 4 cups/servings that I'm just heating as I use. It was pretty good! I also put a scoop of vanilla flavored whey in a cup of milk and that was pretty tasty, too. Good luck to you on the 24th! You'll do great! :-)

I think you should do what your Dr. suggests unless you get a clarification which changes it...that said: I was told to avoid white rice, pasta and breads as they don't contain enough fiber and can easily block the opening after banding. On my post-op liquid diet they specifically name skim milk as something I can use. They prefer we use the FF milk from Braum's as it is processed a bit differently than other milks and has a whopping 13 grams of protein in 8 oz./1 cup. It tastes better, too! Again, that's just what my Dr. advises. I hadn't heard about milk turning to sugar. My .02 :-)

I was banded this past Monday, the 14th, and my Dr. was surprised to find a hiatal hernia when he went in for my procedure. He just fixed that first, then placed the band slightly lower than the norm. He acted like it was no big deal and my recovery has been easier than some I have read about who had only the banding. Hope that helps. :-)

Thanks for the report, eljmom! Sounds like you are doing well and have the right attitude. I was banded Monday so this is day 5 I guess. I quit the pain meds late Wednesday and drove myself to Walgreen's and the grocery store this morning. It felt good to get out and was a beautiful day. I sat in the back and sunned my incisions for about 10 minutes this afternoon. Not sure, why, but I just thought that some vitamin D might do them good. If there were any peepers, you can bet they are cured now! lol Still on full liquids until at least Monday. I'm looking greatly forward to the mushie stage. Mmm. :-) Guess that's all for now. Best wishes to you, Mal!!! You will do great and be back at home before you know it!

You (or he) should google "Cubital Tunnel" to see if that seems like the symptoms he's having. A friend of mine had it and needed surgery. She's all better now. :-)
-
Don't worry. If that happens it can't be humiliating because they do all that after you are out. They have seen so much worse than a woman having her normal TOM, I doubt they even make notice of it! Seriously. Give your dh extra hugs these days. I know I did. After you have your surgery and look back on the pre-op stage it will seem like nothing but a tiny blip in the action of securing your health for the rest of your life. Christine

kadrianmatthews - good job!!!! To all who will be banded today, best wishes to you and we'll see you on the flip side! I was banded Monday and what keeps going through my mind today is: I did it! I DID IT ! ! ! !

Try this thread for some ideas on the mushie stage. Glad you hear you are doing so well! http://www.lapbandtalk.com/food/17637-mushies-stage-recipes.html

I was also banded yesterday. Glad to hear you are doing so well! As for your question, I was told to just sip, sip, sip for the first day or 2, no more than 3 oz. an hour. If that isn't how you are approaching it, it might be worth a try.

Hey all :-) I went in at 6:30 am and got home about 30 minutes ago and everything seems just fine. I feel steady walking and can get up and down without much trouble. I'm sipping water and walking around frequently. Planning to try some broth or jello later, then I can start on yogurt or protein drinks late tomorrow as tolerated. The pain med is working well so far. I think the only pain may come from the gas in my shoulders when I lay down. I'll just prop up some pillows when I decide to go to bed. I have 5 small incisions - largest is about 2". The doctor was surprised to find a hiatal hernia near where my esophagus joins my stomach. This explains the reflux I've complained of for years. He fixed that first, then needed to place the band just a bit lower than is normal. He anticipates very little if any difference in the effectiveness of the band due to this change. Before I left the hospital I was taken to "flouroscopy" to drink barium (strawberry!) and take some pictures. They came out perfectly in both areas. I go back to see the Dr. in 10 days. All in all, a great day!! Christine

...and I'm still just SO excited! I didn't get much sleep, but was able to lay there peacefully with my eyes closed for several hours not thinking or worrying about a thing. I have had other surgeries (shoulder, gall bladder) and by the time my hubby sees me I'm already joking with the staff, but I warned him last night it might be a little different this time and not to let it worry him if I was nauseous or in some pain. He asked if there was a chance I wouldn't be either of those things and I had to tell him it was doubtful. I don't think he liked hearing it, but at least he's prepared. Well, I'll see you on the flip side!

Well, I'm another one scheduled May 14th and I'm doing really well. Today I discovered "Better Than Bouillon" and peach juice so I could have something a bit different. It really helped. My twin sister and grown daughter are in town for Mother's Day so it's great to have a distraction these last few days. We went to a bunch of flea markets yesterday, then the others ate at a Mexican restaurant. I brought along a cooler with a protein drink and yogurt and was amazed that I could just sit there and have that with a huge bowl of tortilla chips within easy reach. I'm still not the least bit nervous, but the last few nights I have only slept for from 3 to 5 hours each night. I think I just don't sleep well when I'm hungry, not sure. My Dr. waits until the day before surgery to give a hospital arrival time and mine is 6:30, so I should be near the first on the list. I'm glad about that because it means less chance of delays. Okay, that's all I have now but I will do my best to get in here and post an update on Monday evening. Best wishes to all, pre-op, post-op and those who will get the procedure t in the coming week.

I think you hit the nail on the head...nesting syndrome! When you think about it, this surgery is sort of akin to having a baby. lol I just wish I had some of it so my house would be clean, too! :phanvan

Hi all. I've been posting in the May 2007 Bandsters thread and just now noticed this forum. I will be banded on the 14th! WOOT! Below is what I blogged for friends a few weeks ago. I think it will serve as introduction, but it's a bit long. Bear with me. BTW, the names are fake. I was born (yes, this may be a long entry! lol) one of a pair of twins. My twin sister, Jennifer, came out fat and sassy but I was just 4 lbs. 1 oz. and in 1954 that was very small indeed. What they now call intensive care nursery was then called the incubator. These days it costs about $2000 a day, but back then it was $5. I have the bill from the hospital Mother saved. They didn't let me go home until I was 3 weeks old. Anyway, I remained painfully thin for all my childhood and even had special Dr. visits just to consult about my weight. Now, mind that we were Christian Scientists and Dr. visits were few and far between. It was that bad, but I think a lot of it was just the stark contrast between myself and Jennifer, who remained slightly on the chubby side, and strangers continually questioning why Mother didn't feed "that one"? The truth was, I was perfectly healthy, rarely sick and I just didn't eat what at the time was "normal" food. I didn't like cooked veggies or meat of any kind and was always munching on a carrot or a banana. My favorite food was just plain cottage cheese or Peanut Butter on a spoon! chocolate milk was another favorite, but they cut me off from that when the Dr. said maybe I was filling up on that and it might be why I wouldn't eat my dinner. *rolls eyes* Fast forward (you're welcome! lol) to when I got my driver's license and stopped walking everywhere. I gained a few (needed) pounds, but to me I hated the little paunch of a stomach I could now see when I sat down in a crop top. That's when I first started thinking I was FAT. The dieting started and really all I had to do was stop eating (easy for me at the time) and I'd lose a few pounds, but soon gain it back and a couple more. This went on and on until I got pregnant at 22 and I actually DID get fat. I gained 45 pounds. My stupid Dr., now that I actually needed some help, always just said, "Well, you're a big girl". I do have a larger frame and am 5' 10" (5' 9" now) but I surely didn't need to gain that much! One word from him that it was unhealthy for the baby or myself and I'd have been all over it! Fast forward again through many, many diets, losses, gains and here I sit today at 310 lbs. The good news (yes! there is GOOD NEWS!!!) is that my dear, dear older sister, Sophie, saw an ad for a seminar on bariatric surgery (I had mentioned to her 18 mos. ago that I was considering it) and she went with me to it a week ago yesterday. Some of you may have heard of a somewhat new (in this country) procedure called the "Lap Band". It's a less invasive surgery that is totally reversible. I liked the Dr. and I am GOING FOR IT! Unfortunately, the surgery is excluded on my insurance, but it may just save my life. A bargain at any price. Tomorrow morning I go for the mandatory visit to a psychologist, then later a seminar on nutrition (I'll be totally surprised if they tell me something I don't already know) and my initial visit with Dr. Gilbert is on April 5th. EDIT: I almost forgot...the odd twist to this story is that Jennifer is now painfully thin and may have an eating disorder. Everyone says she looks older than me. She can't possibly go a day without running 5 miles and dinner for her is like a small salad and 4 boiled shrimp. Go figure. Okay, thanks for listening and I'm happy to have found this wonderful web site!

Messed up in editing and can't figure out how to delete it.

You won't need it, but good luck tomorrow! I agree, and have sensed all along, no matter how excited I am (and I am REALLY EXCITED!), the night before I'll be lucky to sleep a wink. Guess I'll have an hours rest the next morning. :notagree On day 10 of the diet and holding up nicely. I don't want to do anything to put a damper on the procedure. Saturday I'll be going on an excursion with female family members which will include lunch at a Mexican restaurant. I think I'll just take along a protein drink and try not to stare at their food! I'm just going to skip the annual Mother's Day brunch at a great restaurant by the river. That will be the day before surgery and I think it would not only be uncomfortable for me, but for the others also. I can go again next year. They haven't called yet to give me a time for surgery. I guess they leave it loose in case of last minute changes. Okay that's all for now. Thanks to everyone for taking the time before and after surgery to keep us all informed on how you are doing. It's a huge help!

I am on day 5 of the 2 week liquid diet and scheduled for the procedure on May 14! Woohoo! I have been thinking about having this done for over 2 years and can't believe the time is finally almost here. I'm also glad to have found this site (it was recommended in my Behavioral Health class). It will be great to be able to support each other through this. I will have at least 120 lbs to lose (not trying to aim to high just yet) :fish: . I've been yoyo'ing for most of my life and I hope this will be the END of that! I'm entirely committed to the new lifestyle already. Whoever said the liquid diet gets easier after the third day was so right (thank goodness!) Most sincerely, legster P. S. Please put me on your calendar.
