I started gaining weight when I was 9-10 years old. I remember my 3rd grade teacher, Miss Sullivan, having a discussion with my mother and then sitting with me and monitoring my food intake each day during lunch. She suggested that I NOT purchase the extra 10-cent icecream sandwich. Her early intervention didn't seem to have much effect. My father's yelling at the dinner table while my mother handed me her dessert didn't fix the problem, either. I was 'chubby' way back in the late 60's when very few children in my grade school were overweight. My mother always said I was a solid chubby and not the flabby kind. I averaged 160-180 lbs in high school. I married the first young man who showed interest in me at age 18, bought a couple cookbooks, learned to cook, and quickly gained 20lbs. My very first TOPS diet took me from 199lbs to 150lbs. From that point on, it was a roller coaster of gaining and losing 10-50 lbs, except for a 9-month stint of diet pills at age 23, a loss of 70lbs resulting in gall bladder surgery and then gaining it all back. In the past 20 years I've crept up from 200lbs to 280lbs. Sleeve surgery is my hope for a healthier me.
