Complication Free & Progress Pics
Carly4HandinSD replied to DEZ1975's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats You look great! I too live in San Diego, I used Dr. Fuller out of Scripps. I am about 4 1/2 months post op so not too far behind you -
I am about 4 1/2 months post op and have the start of a cold.. I want to try and knock it out before it gets worse. I know we can take tylenol based products, but are we able to take Emergen-C? I wasn't sure because of the fizziness of it. I want to take it as soon as possible. My dr's office isn't open yet, won't be for about another hour and 15 minutes.. Thoughts?

My nut recommended powerade zero from day one. I drink it often, seems like I can drink a big 32 ounce one in no time

how many calories and carbs at 4 months out
Carly4HandinSD replied to misstiffsue's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I think it is one of those things again that can vary from nutritionist/dr to another. I am 4 months out and my nut said 1000 cals a day, not to stress too much about carbs because as long as your get all your protein in your carbs should stay fairly decent. However, I can never get to 1000 cals, I eat about 600-800 a day and stay under 40 carbs.. On my gym days I try and get to 1000 to make up for the 800-1000 cals I burn while working out.. As long as you get your protein, liquids and calories in carbs should fall into a good zone -

I am down 87 pounds in 4 months and for the first time in my life I am starting to feel confident in myself and the way I look. I have a long way to go still but when I compare pictures from day of surgery to this morning I can see how happy I am. So thankful for my sleeve -

Thank you everyone for the encouragement and compliments It makes me feel so good and I love to share my journey with people who truly understand! -
It is tough, but the results are amazing! It gets easier the more weight you lose. I am now doing things in the works outs that I would have to modify before... I love it! Glad you enjoy it. I also tend to drink Powerade zero versus Water during my workouts. My Dr recommended this. It is zero carbs, calories and all that, but you get the electrolytes back that you need. Being I am 4 months out I can take bigger sips, but I do drink more often then others working out. I tend to take a big gulp and hold it in my mouth and take little sips of it.. if that makes sense. LoL.

It is a great work out. I am 4 months post op and go to a boxing/kickboxing gym. It is hard core and is an intense workout. I do 2 hour long classes a week burning 800-1000 calories per class. My dr said only to do it 2 times a week right now with the amount I burn in a work out. My gym is run by pro MMA fighters, the owner is a world champion and they focus on not only the technique, but cardio and your core. You get an overall body work out. It is the best thing ever for me. I did it before surgery and after it is even better. I highly recommend it

I started having salad at about 6 weeks out, I am actually having one as I read your post! Ha! Just be careful of the dressing you put on it. Some of the really creamy or oily ones may not agree with you too well if you have a sensitive stomach after surgery And adding in some protein is a good idea as well!

Am I really wearing these pants?
Carly4HandinSD posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After work yesterday I did my normal routine of going to the gym then home to cook dinner for my husband and I. There was a pair of pants that I bought a month ago that I have been dying to get into.. they are a size 16 and when I first had surgery I was in a 24! So feeling good after the gym I decided I am going to try them on... when I bought them I couldn't even get them up over my tummy... to my amazement they FIT... I could button and zip them with no issues!! I could not believe it. I have not worn this size since middle school and I am 29 years old now! This was the greatest feeling... in 4 months I have worked my way down to a size 16 pants... I just wish I could lose it in my top half more as I am still wearing a 22/24 up top. But that's ok because I know eventually it will happen, but 86 pounds later, much smaller pants and have never felt this great about myself!! Happy Thursday All :) -
Sorry to hear about your sister. However, with ANY surgery comes risk. While your sister had the worst happen to her, many people, like myself have had this surgery with little to no complications. When you have struggled years or your whole life and you see how being severely obese takes away from your life you will do all that you can to help yourself. Most of us wouldn't have this surgery if we could do it on our own. We have all tried everything possible and while it may have worked short term, long term is the key. This surgery is life saving for so many people. Now, if someone needed heart surgery to save their life and because of the heart surgery they had a complication that was severe.. would you suggest they don't have the heart surgery as a chance to save their life? No, you would hope that they would do all that they could take the chance. it is the same principal Surgery is surgery, regardless of what kind there are risks. And to us the risks are worth it, leaks happen, I think everyone is made aware of it before surgery and knows it can happen. While it is scary and I feel for anyone who has to go through it, it is a risk you have to take. Again, I'm sorry to hear about your sister and stories like these let people know off all possibilities, please do not come on here basically insulting so many of us that have had LIFE SAVING surgery.

I have PCOS, I haven't had a period on my own for probably over 10 years! I had surgery Sept 14th and have lost 86 pounds. December I got my first period ever on my own without have to have it induced my medication. I have never been so excited to get my period in my life! It was so bad for me though, I had to stay home from work for 2 days because of how weak I was and bleeding so bad there was no way I could function at work with having to go to the restroom every half hour! It lasted about 5 days, only 3 which were super heavy and bad. Then in January I got it right on schedule and it was not bad lasted about 3-4 days nothing like the one before. I haven't really had any of the other issues like hair growth. I just get a few stray hairs on my chin that are really coarse and I pluck them. They haven't stopped coming in though But surgery has def helped get my periods back. My husband and I have been married a little over a year and before this I could not get preggo. Neither of us were married before or have any children, so this in itself for me is worth the surgery. Give it time, I hope this surgery works for all your PCOS like it did mine

I had to do my week 2 weigh in today instead of Thursday since I will be on the road traveling and won't have access to a scale starting today until next Monday. But I'm pretty happy with the 3.8 pounds I've lost since last Thursday Good luck with this weeks weigh-ins -
Is my Mom trying to steal my shine?
Carly4HandinSD replied to elektrik_rose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should look at positively. Be thankful that your mom is doing something about it before it is too late. My mother was in need of the surgery and didn't do it, she is no longer with us now. If she had it would have saved her life. Try not to let it get to you, or look at it as stealing your shine. You can hold anger about it or you can just be happy that she is taking the step to change and extend her life. While your mom may have been against, it, she still lost weight on her own and if now she is doing it - whatever the reason may be just be happy and supportive. You only have one mom and enjoy all the time you can have with her -
any Sept. 2012 surgery people wanna share ?
Carly4HandinSD replied to BarbsTrying's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you I don't really do anything special. I just track everything that I eat in my fitness pal. I try to stay under 800 cals a day and under 40 carbs and get 60 Proteins in a day. I stay away from shakes because they don't taste good to me. I eat 6 times a day every 3-4 hours. I eat Breakfast, lunch and dinner, then have a morning, afternoon and evening small snack. I cook a lot of meals. I use a lot of chicken and beef and stay way from rice, Pasta and bread. A favorite go to of mine are won ton wrappers, you can put anything you like in them, bake them in a muffin tin in the oven and they are healthy perfect size portions. I work out about 2 times a week, but it is doing a boxing/kickboxing class at a pro boxing gym so I burn around 800-1000 cals when I do that so no more than twice a week of that for me. To be honest, I rarely hit my Protein daily, am always under 800 cals and never get in 64 ounces of Water... I try but its so hard for me. I haven't had issues with anything, I had a very easy recovery and no complications other than I had to be put on a water pill for water retention. I will be 4 months out on the 14th and as of today am down 84 pounds. I have only had 2 stalls, the first one was for 3 weeks (week 3-6) and the 2nd one was a week and it was around the start of the 3rd month. Other than that I've been consistent in my losing. I know since we have a higher starting weight that we will lose a lot more than others in the start. I stay away from sweets, and like I said I track everything I put into my mouth even if its just a bite of something! I probably over track, but that has been key for me. Do you have facebook? I love finding people with stats around mine Let me know if there is anything I can do for you!! -
