  1. My goal weight was 140 to put me at a normal BMI. However, at this weight I am not happy yet. I think the surgery took me as far as it can...the last 25-30 lbs is all me. Really, I just want to be firmer, toned and have a better shape. You can't see too well in the photos, but I do have a hefty ba-donk-a-donk. At 5 foot 2... 115 is a reasonable goal and well within a normal BMI. Exercise is key, so maybe a little higher if I really build serious muscle. Until now, most exercise has been cardio to take style weight off. Am now getting serious about strength and tone. Ugh, just realized that I logged in on my iPad with me old screen name .... Oops

    Coffee lovers...

The only watch out is that caffeine thins the lining of the stomach...like NSAIDs and such. Even without acid issues, it is not a good idea to drink too much caffeinated anything. I alternate between decaf and caf. I look at it as I am drinking 1/2 the caffeine that I used to. Actually even less as I no longer drink soda. My doc recommends decaf only and never as a sub for water. Coffee actually dehydrates you...so it is something to think about carefully when considering your new anatomy and the need to keep the stomach ulcer free

    HUNGER

This happens to me as well. It's not heartburn, it is actual hunger. Not head hunger, but belly wanting hunger. It is totally TOM related for me. I won't even be thinking about food and the pangs start 15 minutes after I eat. What works for me is really high protein during these times and I let myself graze a bit. 3 Paz of chicken breast over 90 minutes. It really helps me get through it. I probably had hormonal hunger before but just let myself stuff myself!

    Increased Restriction

For me, after 8 months, my restriction changes. Some days I am a bottomless pit and others I can barely eat. I think it has to do with my hormones. The physical restriction is part of it, but I think that there is a mental component as well. I also find the restriction increases throughout the day. I have some personal theories...that a day or two of over indulging stretches things a bit and a day or 2 of back to basic decreases my appetite and increases satiety. For instance over the holidays I ate and ate...by comparison to a year ago, I barely ate but for post sleeve me...I just kept shoving bites in. Now I have been on a mental cleanse, drinking shakes and going back to the basics. I now feel full so much faster and stay satiated for hours. I can't really explain it. But variation for me has become the norm.
  6. I am 5 feet and a slow loser. 40 lbs in 8 months. I do believe it is tougher for us.

    5 Confessions (Join In)

Ok, here goes ... I am 8 months out. SW 226, CW 160 (ha, auto correct replaced CW with cow!) 1) other than walking, I have done zero exercise 2) I drink caffeinated coffee 3-4 days per week 3) I eat all kinds of junk in relatively small quantities Cookies, chips, chocolate, fried foods 4) I was surprised to lose 3 lbs over the holidays 5) I rarely get all my fluids in unless I really concentrate 6) though compliance for me has been tough, this is the best thing I've ever done
  8. I am 7 months out. Between 4-6 months, I lost 1/2 my hair. I have about 2 inches of solid regrowth now...amazing. I don't think that anything will prevent it, but you can help the new hair grow quickly and strong! Protein, biotin and bamboo derived silica. I also use Biosil, it's pricey, but I think it works. It's just very concerted silica. Do not buy horsetail silica...it is lower strength than the bamboo based.

    Clothing Size

Had same issue after 60 lbs. the real test was to go to the store and try on a smaller size. Yes, I can wear my Xxl tops, but can also fit into a L comfortably.

    Chia Seeds!

Can someone post a little more about chia seeds. I bought them at trader joes to help with constipation. I took a spoonful and downed with iced tea. My concern is the calories...70 in 1 tbsp and 5 g fat. Trying to conquer constipation and getting in enough protein, but not sure that these are a win win...

    Weekly Miralax Date

I can't believe that I am posting this. I have had such "issues" of late. At 6 months out...It has only gotten worse. I take fiber, stool softeners, miralac every day. I posted a graphic depiction of a stool impaction that happened to me. So...today I tried a preemptive enema. It was surprisingly easy and not uncomfortable. I decided to try this if I don't poop after 5 days. I would recommend it if your having a hard time. It was not nearly as disgusting as I thought it would be!
  12. We talk about so much on here. I just wanted to send a message out to everyone touched by this horrible situation. I am in NYC, and while I don't have it great...I am unscathed and have power. But I have seen unbelievable things this last week...the best in people and the worst. I can't stop thinking about all of this and which those affected the very best.

    Expectations!

Not sure what is so magical about 6 months. It makes sense that you can expect weight loss to slow since you have less to lose...but I don't understand why some would assume it all has to be gone before the clock strikes midnight??

    Hair & Dogs

Sure. Biosil is a supplement that I bought on Amazon. From what I can tell...it is mainly silica anyway. I taKe SOLARAY bamboo 300mg. I don't work for Biosil or SOLARAY so please take my reco with a grain of salt and buy whatwever makes you comfortable.

    Hair & Dogs

One more thing...don't buy horsetail herb silica. Get the bamboo version as it is more potent!

    Hair & Dogs

Biosil is available and a bit pricey...I use it butit am not be for everyone. Alternately, you can google bamboo supplements or go to amazon...there are plenty of generic choices. Let me know how it goes.

    Popcorn?

I ate it at 3 months with no problems. Some say never, but my nut was ok with it. I eat a cup max.

    Hair & Dogs

Hi guys. 6 months post op here and FINALLY stopped losing my hair. Biotin, silica etc did nothing to stop the loss BUT I see about 1 inch of new growth...so it will help with regrowth I suppose. I can feel thickness near my scalp, but it's sparse at the ends from the loss. I mean giant handfuls falling out daily. I'd say I lost 1/2 my hair by the thickness of my ponytail. A lot of people talk about biotin, but add silica too from bamboo supplements. I didn't see the regrowth until I added the silica. Hang in there. Just like yor energy...it can come back.

    Hot Chocolate

Only sugar free...regular version has too much sugar. I'm in ny too...freezing!
  20. So, I a, 6 months out. I really haven't had an issue with constipation. I take 6 Metamucil tablets per day, drink and walk. If I a feel a little off, I add miralax and docusate. So...I haven't really pooped in a few days, no discomfort, just nothing. So I added more veggies, more Fiber and NUTS. Well today I was so uncomfortable ... Felt bloated and abdomen felt swollen. I decided to try magnesium citrate to push it all along. Hours later...nothing. I then tried MOM. Then the agony started, I probably had about 3 in of feces stuck. I couldn't get it out and it wasn't going back in. So what do you do? And I was in pain. I used baby wipes and just kept pulling off small pieces as they came out. But the whole area was just swollen and full. I coud only push a little due to tearing pain, grab what I could...walked around and tried again. This agony went on for 3 hours. I cried, I took Valium...I tried to sleep. I then got a tremendous urge and went back on the bowl. Again, slow and painful chunks could be manually eliminated. Having to touch it do much, I swear I felt the nuts. Finally, I think that I got it all out...about the consistency of modeling clay. I tried to get up and walk around...then I felt such an urge, I went back, sat down and passed the thickes, longest feces of my life. It was over 12" long and at least 6" around. I took a pic for my doc. I weighed myself and was 3 lbs lighter than the morning. I still cannot believe the absolute pain, the feeling of tearing and just being stuck. What a re Over finally, but what do I do to never, ever get ere again, am thinking no nuts? I know that this was very graphic, but was so disturbing. I had to share for some support....and hopefully advice.

    Dizzy

I am 6 months as well...sleeve sisters! I get dizzy occasionally...so low blood sugar, dehydration, just down right not eating enough. For me, I have sinus trouble and that makes me very dizzy sometimes. I had no idea it was connected. Throwing that out there in case it makes sense for u.

    Stupid Candy!

I ate 8, yes 8 fun size Hershey bars while cooped up for the hurricane. 6 months out and they went down just fine. Not sick or uncomfortable in any way. On a positive note, I was on track today. I am still me...didn't have a lobotomy.
  23. Wow...I cant believe the response to my post! Am not proud, but glad I got people talking. So...no recurrence since that crazy day. I think that it was the calcium + iron. Not sure what to do, but I stopped the iron until I see the nutritionist. Lots of fluid and taking miralax daily. I'll do anything to not have that horror again. I also bought an enema kit to have, though that magnesium citrate really worked well! I have no idea what chia seeds are, but i will investigate...good luck to all!
  24. I must have some form of body dysmorphic disorder, not because I see myself at fat now...but because I did not see how fat I was. I've lost 60 pounds and can officially shop for "regular" clothes. My surgery was in April and I really didn't buy clothes until now. I tended to where "stretchy" clothes than came in , S-XXL so never really felt a difference. I could where a Large or XL vs the XXL...but that was it. So, I have been going to the GAP, TJ MAxx and am floored that a 14 or even a 12 fit me. But I look in the mirror and want to cry. I am seriously lumpy, bumpy and just plain fat. Pants fit me, but the waist is huge and my underwear stick out the back because my butt is so big. I think it is my body type as well. On top I am a medium and hips down a XL. The way I see myself now is how I saw myself 60 pounds heavier...so just feel like I haven't come very far. Also, my weight loss has sllloowwwed to a crawl and I have even gained for no apparent reason. Just 1-2 pounds but still. UGH! I am such a rationale person, but this is really bothering me to the point that no one wants to shop with me because I become so moody when I see myself.
