Omg that's hilarious!! Singing Tina Turner! Ha ha! Love it! Well I was awake when they rolled me into the room but what killed me is when I woke up I was in a different gown. About an hour or two after I was out of recovery that dawned on me and for a moment I was mildly horrified that I had been completely naked in the operating room! Well DUH....LOL!

I'm watching it now. She's not the first to have the sleeve, Penny had the sleeve done. I think these are the only 2 tho, the rest I've seen have all been gastric bypass.

I know exactly how you feel! I was the same way, I never cared about what anyone else thought. I was me and I was comfortable in my own skin, naked or clothed. I had the surgery because I wanted to be healthy and live longer than I was going to. Now that my body looks very much like a half melted candle I'm less likely to walk around the house in my panties and bra like before. The loose skin grosses me out. Mostly my stomach. I just had a breast reduction in Dec and I had a complication. The dr thinks because of my inability to eat enuf to get proper nutrition to heal is what caused the complication. I have an open wound the size of my palm on my left breast where my skin practically dissolved and my stitches opened. It's closing slowly but I have to do wet packs on it probably for another month before he can go back in and stitch it back up to close it. I know others wls patients have had plastics and had no problems but I am very leery now of any other surgeries. For now I'll just stick to my spanx and try to get used to this new body!

Her story was amazing! I love that she got off all her weight, reached her goal, had a baby and continued to keep it off. She was very determined and worked very hard. I like that she went on to work for the dr helping counsel other patients seeking wls.

I agree. Stay away from carbonation! But wine or a shot I think would be ok. Just beware it will hit you a lot faster than before surgery. Take it slow and listen to your body. As far as food, eating out on while on vacation can be tricky but just remember to pick things on the menu that will benefit your body not hurt it. Get in that protein and watch your portions. You can do it! Also, enjoy your vacation, have fun! The Caribbean is beautiful, enjoy the beauty of where you are!

Yes, James story was a good one. I love when things totally turn around for these people on the show. So many times obese people are perceived as having zero willpower and that's just so not true. I think it's great that this dr is willing to help those that are 600+ and give them second chances at life. I really do wish the best for them and for all of us that have struggled with our weight.

I agree! I mean I'm a year out of sleeve surgery and even a little fried food tears my stomach up so I avoid it! She was eating a ton of those things after only being sleeved a few months! And don't get me started on the husband....he's no dr but he thinks fried wontons are better than takeout?!!? Omg!! And asking her in the hospital if she wanted ice cream, I almost fainted! She's very selfish in my opinion and she took the whole thing like a joke. Saying the dietician was stupid and she wouldn't even try anything during physical therapy except give excuses! Geez.... It's not easy. God knows I'm not perfect but I try. It takes work and with her it's like she has given up and doesn't want to try. Yes I would also be interested to see how she's doing today.

Does anyone watch this show on the TLC channel? It's on Tuesdays and it shows people who are close or even over 600lbs who undergo wls to save their lives. This last one on the 21st was the story of a 45 year old named Penny who weighed 530lbs. I was so frustrated watching the episode! She was in the hospital for a month and lost 40lbs so the dr agreed to do wls on her and chose the sleeve. He wanted to do the switch eventually. She never lost any weight!! They followed her for a year and she GAINED weight! She had an excuse for everything they asked her to do. She was bed ridden and refused to try to get up and walk!! She never walked the whole year, it ended her weighing 495lbs and still not walking. I just don't understand why you would uproot your life, undergo surgery and then not follow drs orders. I honestly didn't know it was even possible that you could even have that surgery and NOT lose weight! The dr suspected her husband was sneaking her food! She was griping at the nurse that no one told her she was going to be on a diet and expected to lose weight while she was in the hospital! Are you kidding me?? She was in the hospital 4 months after and never lost a pound so the dr gave up. I just don't get it. I guess some people really think wls is a quick fix and you don't have to do anything but wait for the weight to fall off. It was just very frustrating to watch. Anyway, that's the first one I've seen that had a bad outcome. Most of them have been really neat to see how they get the weight off and go on to living life again.

I'm with ya! It's even worse because I had breast reduction surgery dec 10, 2013 and now I can really see my stomach! So gross! I wear spanx etc too and once I get to goal will most def have to have plastic surgery. I look like a melted candle...ew.

Oh no!! My husband swears by Emergen-C and will drink it 3 times a day til he feels like the colds not coming on anymore. When he is sick hell still drink it 3 times daily and it lessens the longevity of the cold. Idk, but he hasn't been sick with a cold for a long time! Good luck and hang in there!!

I was allowed to walk all I wanted for the first 8 weeks then I was released to do weights etc at the gym. I would say you're ok to walk on a treadmill now but if you're unsure, simply make a call to your doctors office and just ask. They'll be happy to let you know.

7months out 135lbs DOWN!
MrsG replied to tpimpette1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My year is almost here, 1/15/14 and my appetite is a funny thing. I still eat an egg in the morning sometimes a piece of bacon or toast as well. Lunch I can eat a whole 6 inch sub from subway some days. Some days I get 3/4 of the way thru it and have to stop. I always do turkey with a bunch of veggies. I love sandwiches for lunch and when I don't eat subway I just make it on regular bread and that's what I can fit. For snacks I LOVE raw veggies! Carrots and cucumbers, celery and broccoli. I also love to eat a few tablespoonful of hummus with a few pita chips. For dinner I can fit a chicken thigh minus skin with about 1/4 to 1/2 cup cooked veggies. I also will do fish or some other meat, 4-6 ounces with some sort of veggie. Usually broccoli. I put it in a pan, drizzle olive oil on it and some seasonings and bake it, holy cow that's delish! I can definitely eat more than I could in the beginning but I am still limited. For me it's all about making better choices when I eat. My weight loss has been kind of slow. I've lost 137 lbs to date, but I am still losing so I'm happy. -
