    2 days till op

The first day I told my husband it felt like I got kicked in the stomach by a horse. When they gave me morphine as soon as it hit my vein I almost threw up but the nurse was awesome and gave me something for nausea. After that I just took liquid hydrocodone and only a few times. The pain from surgery isn't too bad, what hurts are the gas pains and it feels like cramping. Just do lots of walking and you will be fine! Good luck!
  2. I took my iPad and did use it a little. Oh and I brought my slippers. They had me walk around the hospital a lot and they provided these socks with little grip pads on the bottom but my feet get hot so I wanted something I could slip on and off. I liked that because it was something of mine and it was comforting. Congrats on your upcoming surgery! Ill pray for you a swift recovery!
  3. I loved tuna before surgery, heck it was the last solid thing I ate before surgery, now the very smell of it makes my stomach turn! I'm 4 weeks out and the other day my hubby bought me a fruit smoothie, I took one drink and gave it to him. It tasted sooo sweet. He said it wasn't that sweet but to me it was sickeningly sweet. Another one is this place I used to get fried chicken. It was my absolute fave even without the skin and so we went for dinner, I pulled all the skin off and ate the chicken and it was just ok. Part of me was disappointed but it's ok, other things appeal more to me now. Smells I agree, i was sensitive before and now it feels like I'm ultra sensitive. And I agree also with libearzmom, it kind grosses me out when I see how much people (including me before surgery) eat! Even normal portions look huge and kinda makes me feel ill.

I think it's awesome you only weigh yourself once a month! I do the same thing! I was sleeved 1/15 and was weighed 1/22 by my surgeons office then again yesterday by my pcp. I don't want to get hung up on numbers or scale obsessed! 25lbs is great! Keep up the good work!
  5. I had surgery 1/15/13 and only had one mood swing. It was day 6 post op. I was sitting on the couch watching tv, playing on my iPad and just broke down in tears. My husband was all concerned asking me what I read or watched on tv to make me have such a reaction and all I could hiccup out was "nothing" lol! My dr told me it was completely normal. You have such a build up to the surgery, then the relief of having it done along with a little of "what the heck did I do to myself?". But a few minutes later I stopped crying, pulled myself together and have been great since! I feel awesome now. That was about the extent of my mood swings. My husband is very supportive and my cheerleader, he helps me thru all of this plus I have a good attitude about this surgery. I knew it was going to be a challenge and a life change and so far it's been the best decision ever!
  6. I love how you say AA is your solution for your alcoholism and the sleeve forces you to confront your relationship with food. Sorry Pdxman I misquoted, you said alcohol was your solution, what i meant to put was AA forced you to confront your relationship with alcohol and the sleeve your relationship with food. I like that.
  7. I would take in my own food. For the amount we can eat now it would look like a snack in anyone's purse. And if they say something explain that you just had surgery and are on a special diet! We are on vacation right now too,I'm 4 weeks out and this is exactly why I refuse to go to a buffet with my family.
  8. Omg you poor thing!! It sounds like a reaction of some sort. I can't think of what it could be either but I'm glad you are calling the dr! Even if he's in surgery the nurse or someone will be able to help! Please keep us posted on what you find out. Good luck!
  9. Do you carry a lot of weight in your stomach? I do. I was sleeved 1/15 and I have some discomfort still in my largest incision where the stomach was removed. Not really pain but it feels like I'm pulling something. I was told its completely normal. I just make sure there are no signs of swelling or discoloring.

    Stuggling

I agree, try drinking the water at room temp. Before surgery I lived it ice cold and would chug it, now I find I can drink more and it goes down easier if its room temp. And yes try anything to get that water in. Try flavoring it with mint, cucumber, lemon or IMO drops. You def do not want to dehydrate yourself. If you haven't had a constipation problem yet I guarantee you will if you do not get in your water. It is absolutely vital to our bodies especially now. Try not to get down, I know it's hard when you are sick and eating gets easier and better for me each day. Just take it one day at a time and do what you can. I'm about 3 1/2 weeks out and still adjusting too. Good luck!

    Ridiculus!

That was so funny! Thank you for the laugh! I know I'll be there soon too!
  12. The crazy thing is I was only sleeved 1/15/13 but it works that fast! I see a huge change already! My heaviest was 427 and my pcp is awesome! He was very respectful when he mentioned surgery, he knew how hard I worked with no results. I felt horrid after seeing how much I weighed after so many years! Im so glad I did it!
  13. I completely understand! It sucks! I've always been a big girl and have been fine with it! I always felt I carried my weight well and i felt beautiful anyway. I didn't care what anyone thought but I just knew being overweight is unhealthy and want to live past 40 so I decided to have surgery. A month before, I felt huge and i was even losing weight. I didn't want to go out of the house anymore. I felt so uncomfortable and felt like everyone was staring at me when i would. Now that I'm sleeved and seeing results I couldn't be happier. And I feel pretty and sexy again! I think it's just that when you make up your mind to have surgery you are just ready and really see what you have become to get to that point. I know it stinks but after surgery you will feel better!
  14. Congratulations!! You sound like I did! I was so excited and no nervousness either! Sending a prayer your way for a smooth easy recovery! Yay!
  15. Ummm....yeah a size 16 wouldn't stretch over my big butt right now!! They don't stretch that much! IT COUNTS!! Great job!
  16. More often than not things go pretty smoothly! Try not to be scared! My thoughts are with you this morning! Good luck!!

    and so it begins.

When I started my journey I weighed over 400lbs. I know what you mean about thinking your last meal is the last one you will enjoy as I had the same thought. I had my sleeve 1/15/13 and it has been the best decision ever!! I had a great surgery and my recovery has been swift with no problems! Sweetie, you will enjoy eating again I promise! The difference for me is, the first 2 bites of something are awesome then my senses kick in and I pay attention to how I'm eating and then it becomes more about nourishing my body. Your tastes will change! I loved tuna and after surgery I can't even stand the smell of it! I hated cottage cheese prior and love it now! It's so weird, the changes that will go on in your body. And even tho I'm only 3 weeks out I'm already pretty used to eating again and yesterday my friend who I saw only last weekend came to my house for Super Bowl yesterday AND CALLED ME SKINNY! It was awesome! She could already see the difference! Don't be scared. Enjoy this whole experience and you will do fine! Good luck! My thoughts will be with you as you embark this new chapter in your life!

    Ectasy And Cocain Lol

I've never tried cocaine but I have this theory that the first time I would try it I would have a heart attack. It might be paranoia but I'm not willing to risk it. IMO your body has been put thru so much just by being sleeved and eating so little do you really think it's a good idea to put the added stress of a drug on top of that? Again I would worry about my heart handling the drug. Ive already put too much stress on it as it is by carrying so much weight for a long time. I'm feeling great and high on getting my life back right now the last thing I wanna do is die. I guess the best answer is be honest with your dr and ask what he/she thinks.
  19. Your post made me cry. Of course I just had surgery 2 weeks ago so it might be the hormones I just thought it was so sweet! That's awesome you have touched ppl in such a positive way, especially a young person.... Congratulations on your success I only hope I can have the same kind of success as you! Good work!
