Need to hear from the ex-heavy smokers and current smokers
MrsG replied to Ro2x's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was a smoker for 15 years and quit in August cold turkey. I had my surgery in January. I have to say that the first few weeks were tough but then it was no problem. Since I've had surgery, I have craved them off and on. I refuse to give in. I have to say I'm glad that I gave them up way before hand because this surgery is a big deal and you have to learn a whole new way of eating and drinking. If I had had to give up cigarettes at the same time I think I would've cracked! Lol! If you don't think you can do it cold turkey I think the vape thing sounds interesting and worth a try. Good luck! -
Oh good idea! I don't like the plastic things as they feel kinda bulky on the palm side of my hand, but thread might be better! Thanks!

Am i missing sonething?
MrsG replied to WeightStruggle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have either. Every surgeon is different. -
No, not alone! Every one of my friends tells me how great I look and they can see a huge difference after losing 60lbs but all I see is fat in the mirror. Ugh. The only way I can tell is by my measurements and the way my clothes are all really baggy but I don't see the difference in the mirror.

send me a request by email, tnhamil@hotmail.com Omg I have no idea how this got in my message! Sorry, disregard! Lol!

I'm sorry you're hurting! I agree with the above post, try drinking something send me a request by email, tnhamil@hotmail.com or at least room temp. Cold Water hurt me for the first few weeks. Now it's fine. You will get thru this phase. Hang in there! And make sure you're walking to get rid of that gas! Congrats on your sleeve! It gets better!
-
I know it sucks but better safe than sorry. Trust your doctor to know what he/she is doing. Will keep my fingers crossed for you!
-
It gets easier. Hang in there. Drink and eat what you can and just concentrate on recovering. Weird, I had a fever in the hospital too. I wondered about that one as well. I was afraid of infection, but it went away. Walking helps with that farting thing. Walking gets that air moving. Good luck!

smokers... er... ex smokers
MrsG replied to Mastiff_mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aww! It's ok! I understand completely! I quit in August and had surgery in January. Ever since surgery I have wanted one so bad! We have to stay strong Mastiff mama!! We can do it! I think of all the months of not smoking being thrown out the window if I gave in. And I know if I give in and have 1 I'm screwed. I keep telling myself the same things...it makes your clothes, hair and breath smell, it makes me short of breath when exercising, it adds wrinkles, it kills your lungs and last but not least they are soooo expensive! Keep reminding yourself of these things, that's what I do. We can do it! -
The first week was rough. I was tired a lot, took little naps. The second week was better because I got to eat and my energy was restored. But it's different for everyone.
-
Yes. The first time I went grocery shopping after surgery I was almost depressed. I kept thinking of all the things I couldn't eat but then I changed my attitude and looked at it more like what can I try that's healthy and that might appeal taste wise to me now. I actually had fun then picking out different things to try. I had never had garbanzo Beans and now I love them! Same with turkey chili! I bought shrimp and imitation crab and it was really good. Just try different things you've never tried before. You might be surprised that while there are things not appealing to your taste buds since surgery, other things will taste better now.

Off post op restrictions, scared to eat regular!
MrsG replied to TexasMiss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was allowed Protein bars, raw veggies, beef & pork and nuts at 2 months. Refried Beans are still my go to food. I love them and I've eaten a ton! I know what you mean about craving raw veggies! I wanted a salad soooo bad! I'm 9 weeks out and right after my 2 month appt I went to lunch with my husband and ordered a salad. I don't think there has ever been a better salad or a happier girl! It was so good! -
Really?! I would think the crust would expand and make me feel sick! I'm not allowed pizza for 4 more months. Good to know!
-
I'm 9 weeks out and had my first salad this week. It was soooo good! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wasn't allowed raw veggies til 2 months out. I had no problem digesting it and it didnt bother my sleeve at all. Since then I've had a salad every day. I think 3 weeks may have been a little too soon. Hang in there, you'll get your salads back!
-
Me too. If I had a problem with swallowing it I probably wouldn't, but I don't, so I do chew it a lot!
-
You are too cute! Life is too short and you are too young to settle for someone who doesn't see how beautiful you are inside and out. You were sleeved to be healthy and happy, don't let someone boyfriend or other steal your happiness. There are lots of fish in the sea....
-
Omg your post cracked me up! You're so funny! I can relate to the butt thing! I've had a desk job for the last several years plus I have genes working against me too...all the women in my family have flat booties. I'm sorry to hear you are having stomach issues. How scary, I hope you get to feeling better! I'm glad you are getting medical attention.
-
Lol! That's completely understandable! I mean if you say you quit smoking, you quit smoking. You would forget that the patch you're wearing makes it look like you still are! I'm sure they will be fine with it! Let me know how it goes!
-
I agree, always go with what your surgeon says. That being said, I had my 2 month post op appt and was told if its a once in a while thing it's ok. But if I were to want to use it say every month for my period, that's a no no. I was given the reason it causes ulcers also.
-
I haven't thrown up yet, thank god. But when I have gotten backed up (twice now since surgery) I get really sick to my stomach and have felt close to puking. The last time it was so bad I totally thought that if I did throw up it would be poop! Lol! Sorry, gross but it was bad!
-
Mine was worried more about the lung/breathing thing too as it hinders your recovery. I quit smoking several months before cold turkey, however they did mention patches and gum. I don't think they would if nicotine was the issue, IMO. I think if you're just honest with them that would be best. I would be more worried about him canceling on the day of the surgery and looking like a liar (not that you are) by not being forthcoming as to why you have nicotine in your system. FYI mine didnt do a nicotine test even tho they said they would. Good luck!

Isn't that such a great feeling? I love seeing my clothes get baggy, also trying on old (new) clothes that never fit and they finally do! Yay!
