OK here we go, I'm a 50 year young man, married, kids, dogs and a cat. I would like to talk to another 50 year young man or any one else that might be able to give me insight into what I'm about to do. I guess I should say were about to do, my wife is give'n serious thought to getting the band also. I have had my first visit with the Doctor and waiting to attend my first seminar and Phy. eval. So let me have it, any information would be helpful at this point. :fish:

Aloha my friend My DSW and I use the Premier Nutrition Protein shake (chocolate) They don't taste bad. DSW is kind of like you and the taste of things. So we put them in the frezer about 1-1.5 hours before we drink them. I think it's really good, we get them at costco. If your using the dry mix that you add to water, try skim milk, that's what Bev did till we found the shakes were using now. Good luck BWD

Aloha All

Thought I would never get to post this, but here I am 100 Lbs. post op. Was banded in July 2007, and what a difference 100 Lbs. can make. I can ride on airplanes without using my seat belt extender, even on the small planes. Can get a good nights sleep, without feeling like I'm going to choke to death. And did I mention how much better the sex is? Christmas Day was the best, decided it was time to get out the "Green Hornet" (my bike) and clean it up and see if I could still ride. Use to ride a lot 10 years ago (6000 miles a year) well after checking everything over it got on and rode around the hood and my DSW said that it would be cool if we could ride together, so got one of the old bike's out cleaned it up and off we went on a 5 five very easy all flat ground ride. It felt so good to be back on the "Green Hornet" and my wife had a great time also. Well I know I've gone on too long, just very excited about my new life, did I mention how much better the sex is? LOL Well Aloha and take care and good luck

BWD

PS I love my band, and did I mention how good the sex is?

Where does the fat go?
Big Wave Dave replied to -acl-'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aloha I don't think it goes anywhere, I've heard the fat cells are still there they just get smaller. Thats why it's so easy for us people that have been fat to get that way again really fast. I don't know if this is the correct answer but just what I've heard. Please if I'm wrong someone set me straight. Good Luck BWD -
Aloha This has happened to my DSW, she has lost 50 Lbs. but a ton of inches. Just keep up the good work and soon the scale will start to show it. good Luck BWD

Help: Swelling & Bruising
Big Wave Dave replied to Sades's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aloha Sades I was banded on 7/11/07, and had some swelling and redness at the port site. As for the bruising, well thats another story, I looked like I had been kicked by a mule. When I asked the Doctor about it, he said it was because I was really big guy (398 Lbs.) and when they but the Gas in to extend my stomach the insturments were almost too short and he really had to work to get the band in place. I have six incisions not the normal 5 because he wanted to make sure the band was seated good. But it all went away in about 3-4 week. Take care and good luck with your band. Aloha BWD -
This can't be happening!!
Big Wave Dave replied to Saintluver's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aloha Hope your doing better, just found out yesterday my 70 something Aunt has a kidney stone that she needs to pass. Sound like that would hurt. Good Luck with the band Aloha BWD -
What is helping you succeed right now?
Big Wave Dave replied to maryrose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Aloha For me it would be having my DSW having the band also and going to the gym with me at 5:00am 5-6 days a week. Cooking and eating the right types of food. Just seeing the success that she is having, the motivation that I get from her is the greatest. Oh one more thing, loosing 76 Lbs. and getting off my HB & Diabetes Meds has helped a lot also. Good Luck and Aloha BWD -
Aloha DavidB I'm have lost 72Lbs. and you will feel great! I don't know if you take High Blood Pressure Meds. If you do and when you get off those meds and they get out of your system and THINGS (do make draw a picture) start to wake up again, you will feel like your 25 again. Enjoy the ride brother, it feels great to be our age and moving, exercising and living life to the fullest again. I got another 78 till my goal, can't wait. Aloha Big Wave Dave

Aloha Here is my 2 cents worth, first let me start by saying I'm a 50 year old man, so I've been where your going. 1. Start a Transition diet NOW it will help later in the liquid and mushie stages 2. Join a Gym and get started NOW this will be the key to your success. But start slow take it easy don't over do it and get sore and burn yourself out. 3. Find a Protein shake that you like and find a couple to give yourself some variety 4. talk to your wife/girlfriend about your decision and get them onboard for support you will need a lot of support. 5. Practice sipping water. Oh yeal start drinking lots of water NOW and get off the soads and beer. (it was hard for me to give up Diet Coke, till I figured out I was drinking 14 aday) 6. Get ready to buy some new pants, shirts 7. Enjoy getting ready for your surgery, do not think about what you won't be able to eat anymore but think about what you are about to become...HEALTHIER!! ( I use to take meds for blood press. diabetes, cholesterol, now I'm off all my meds) 8. Get some good workout shoes. My starting weight was 398 Lbs. and the cheap shoes were killing my feet, get a good pair it will make a big difference in your workout. 9. Again talk to your wife/girlfriend and let them know just how important there support is to you in this quest. Thats right I said quest, I'm up at 4.30am every morning to go to the gym and without my Dear Sweet Wife's support it would be so hard. 10. Relax, enjoy, talk about it with close friends and family and feel of their Love and care for you, they will be proud of your decision. I know my Wife, mother, father, brothers, sister and extended family are behind me 1000% 11. Remember the Band is a tool, it's not a magic solution to all your weight problems. We didn't get this way over night and were not going to get off over night either. Well I hope this helps, I love my band I would do it over in a minute. I wish you all the best, I've heard it said that "No one ever said this would be easy, Just worth it!" and my favorite saying is "The only easy day was yesterday" Why you ask because yesterday is over. Much Aloha Big Wave Dave 398 5/07 326 10/5/07 Banded 7/11/07

I need advice guys!
Big Wave Dave replied to lisathompson06's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aloha Well for me the pain was some where between having my toe nails clipped and talking to my Ex-wife. Ok I'll stop it isn't that bad. The incision's felt like a bee sting, I had been hitting the gym kinda hard pre-op and I think that helped a lot. The gas pain was the killer, if I didn't know what was going on I would have thought I was having a heart attack. I took liquid Tylenol and that really helped, on the second night I took the pain meds just so I could get some sleep I wasn't use to sleeping on my back, so I took the pain meds and lights out goodnight Mable...But other than that it wasn't bad. So good luck and you can do it, if this 50 year old cry baby can do it so can you. Aloha BWD -
Aloha All Well sports fans it's offical as of 9-17-07, 1120 AM HST. As per my PCP I'm off ALL my Meds, no more High Blood Pressure Meds (That should make my DSW Happy) no more diabetes med. and no more Chlesterol med. I'm so happy this was my goal to get off my meds. So from now on any weight I loss is just for show. Thanks to everyone that has sent me support e-mail and above all I owe so much to my DSW Beverly for her contuined support, I don't think I could have done it without her. She is the Best. And also big Mahalo's to Dr. Fowler and his staff and The Castle Medical Center for there care and support. Well got to run, sorry for the miss spelled words and words left out, I just so excited I can hardly stand it. Aloha Big Wave Dave:whoo:

Great Job! And remember, there are old Pilots and bold Pilots. But there are no old bold pilots. I'm an old Navy Flyer myself, I can fit into my flight jacket again after a lot of years of just look at it in the closet. My wife thinks I'm crazy because I can wear "that old thing" again. Good luck and again great job on the weight loss, good luck on the flying. Happy landings BWD (call sign "Waldo")

HELLO, any oldies out there? I'm almost 63 and want to live.
Big Wave Dave replied to FatAttack's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Aloha Hopefull I refuse to use that other name.. I'm 50 and a Man and my weight loss is going great. I'm very thankful my Dear Sweet Wife has the band also and we go to the gym together it really worksout for us (no pun intented) we do our meals together and give a lot of support to each other. Being older it can be hard but I know you can do it. If you have any more questions please just post it and well reply. Take care and good luck, getting the band was 2nd. best thing I've done in my life #1 Marrying my Wife Aloha BWD -
Aloha My wife put her Protein shakes in the freezer about 1/2 hour and she said it was kind of like drinking a milk shake. Also go to GNC and check out there 100% Whey Protein power they have some really good flavors. Good luck, and if I can do this I know you can because I'm the weakest person I know when it comes to eating. Was banded on 7/11/07 and I'm down 40 Lbs. post op and 61 Lbs. total. Aloha Dave

Aloha Try some bananas, and drink lot's of water, sometime that happens to me when I don't drink enough water. Also try a multi-vitamin that helps me also. Aloha BWD
