One more week to go. Surgery date is 11/13. liquid pre-op diet is a pain, but a neccessary one. The weekend flew by. I had a headache yesterday, but it was only the first one since beginning my liquid diet 10/28. I'm down 8 pounds. Hope to lose another 5 by surgery date. Busy at work which is good. I can't believe my surgery date is only a week away. I can't wait to post that I'm home from the hospital....

You didn't say if you were staying a hotel or not, but if you are staying at a hotel do they have a gym with weights? Are you near a store? You could always go purchase a couple of heavy cans/jars of food to do some light weightlifting (arms, upper body, etc.) Since you are out of town you can always donate the food to a local shelter before you leave to go back home.

Congratulations! You look fantastic. The weight loss really shows in your face! You have such a great smile!

Wow. Time has gone by SO fast. It felt like I just posted that I had a month to go, and now here it is the two week mark. I am almost perfect on my liquid diet. I say almost because I had some crackers (4) the other night to help take some medication. I haven't weighed myself yet, but I probably will on Friday. November 13th! It is just around the corner. I am really busy at work so that helps. Next week is my last week at work and then I will be off until December 3rd. I have a lot to do before I go on leave. I am going to clean out my closet this weekend. I am going to donate everything that is slightly big on me now as well as most of the rest of my clothes that fit too. I have a lot of clothes in smaller sizes from when I grew too big to fit into them, way in the back of my closet. I figure why wait until after surgery to do it? I have pjs and comfortable clothes (T-shirts, Sweats, etc) to wear while I am healing and the clothes I am donating, I don't ever want to see again. Bye-bye size 22, so long size 20. I have 18 and 16 waiting for me. I CANNOT wait to say sayanora to those as well. I haven't been a single digit size since BEFORE grade school. I am taking pics this weekend along with taking my measurements.

Going Bak To Work?
dwbrown1978 replied to Quianna Armstead's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgeon said I should be off for two weeks and should be able to return to work with no problems (I have a sedentary desk job), however my boss encourged (insisted really) that I take three weeks off, longer if needed. -
Two Weeks... Well Technically 13 Days!
dwbrown1978 commented on dwbrown1978's blog entry in dwbrown1978's Blog
That is a GREAT coincidence!!! I can't believe how similar our surgeries are. As for advice, I guess I would say that I am a big planner. I spent the past few weeks leading up to my liquid diet being proactive. I first started subbing one meal (breakfast) for a protein shake and then eating two regular meals. After about 2 weeks of that, I started subbing 2 meals a day for a protein shake and switching my last meal to low carb. I was doing that for about 10 days and then shifted to my full liquid diet (with sugar free jello and/or 1 greek yogurt per day) fairly easily. I say do what you can. I got this advice from my surgeon (along with his nurse and also my nutritionist agreed): If you can make two of your meals per day a protein shake, then eat one meal low carb (only carbs from veggies). Try to make your protein lowfat. It will still accomplish the goal of shrinking your liver and you should drop a few pounds. Try to make your meal about 400 calories or less. That one meal plus the two protein shakes will still make your calories around 1000 or less for the day. I don't know if it will help you, but it has been a lifesaver for me. And if I absolutely cannot make it until the 11th (no food at all the day before surgery) without eating real food, I know I can eat something as long as it is pure lowcarb. Good luck to you on journey. I wish you the best. I hope you will keep in touch with your progress, because it will be nice to see someone who's so similar to me going through the same process. -

Drumroll please.... The offical countdown has begun. I am scheduled for surgery, Tuesday, November 13th at 7:00AM. First surgery of the day. Check-in by 5:00am. I am so ready for this. I have everything I need. I ordered supplies online (amazon and bariatric advantage). I have protien in the form of shakes, soups, drinks, puddings and jello. I have scoured the boards and read as many posts for pre-op as I could find. I bought the pillow for my stomach and a wedge pillow for sitting and sleeping. I have gummy, chewable and liquid vitamins. Everything is labeled, organized and charted. I have lists and spreadsheets. I am so ready. Bring it on.

Slim Fast Protein Drink
dwbrown1978 replied to Jenny881's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you referring to the regular shakes or the low-carb version? I think the regular ones have too many carbs and sugar to be considered on the diet. I found that my local Big Lots had a supply of the low carb vanilla and chocolate shakes (3 carbs, 2 sugar and 20 grams protien) so I practically bought all they had on the shelves... LOL. My NUT had a "cheat sheet" for me to follow that seems to work for both Protein powders and shakes, but also for other foods as well: Nutrition Guidelines: Carbs (single digits) Protien (double digits) Sugar (less than 5) -
Ive Only Lost 10Lbs The First Week Post Surgery
dwbrown1978 replied to olivia1425's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmmm.... I think it would depend on how heavy you were prior to surgery. Someone who weighs 450 pounds would more than likely lose more than someone who weighs 250. But.... 10 pounds lost is an incredible number for a week. Over a pound a day. How much were you expecting to lose? Are you disappointed in that number? If someone else posted that loss on the boards what response would you be posting for them? I am trying to gauge if you seem happy with the loss or disappointed because your post could be read either way. Congrats on the loss. -
When is your surgery??? Are you able to take your meds? I don't know about after you are sleeved, BUT high BP is a concern when you go under anethesia... You can probably google it, I think. My BP was close to the high range (but not over) and my PCP was concerned. I was prescribed a very mild BP medication to take for the next three weeks prior to my surgery. She told me having borderline BP wasn't a deal breaker for me, but wanted me to get it down prior to surgery even if just a little lower. My BP wasn't considered high however, just borderline. How high is yours?

10 Weeks Post Op
dwbrown1978 replied to southern belle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are an inspiration!!! Thank you for your update post. I am 5'4" and am 278 (bleh) this morning on doctor's scale. I start my liquid fast 11/05/12 and my surgery is 11/13. Less than a month away. I cannot wait to be under 250 again. And then 225. Once I get under 200 I am going to take a trip to Celebrate with my best friend. I haven't been under 200 in about 5 years. Keep up the amazing work! You are going to succeed and rock it!!! -
What To Ask The Doctor?
dwbrown1978 replied to Tamara Carter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure if this will apply to many folks, but I have cancer (diagnosed 2009). For me, being morbidly obese, I felt like my own body was letting me down, sabatoging my efforts to heal itself. I found a surgeon who has already had three cancer patients (all sleeved) and are having amazing success. One had the surgery while going through chemo! All three of them have responded really well to the sleeve and the diet. It was important for me to find a surgeon who could work with my oncologist and be sensitive to my needs and special circumstances. Also - he took a lot of personal time to review my history and research my cancer, as well as work with my PCP and oncologist. I know I made the right choice. Good luck on your journey! -
Congratulations to you!!!! 100 pounds is fantastic. More importantly, look at how much your BMI went down and see how much your life has improved... SO happy for you. Happy Anniversary!

6 Weeks Post-Op Visit Last Week
dwbrown1978 replied to Ready4success's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh wow. That is awesome. This is very encouraging news to those who may be just starting out on this journey. That is fantastic news. You must be so happy. Congrats! -
Sorry to hear about your difficulties having your surgery scheduled... Can you go in person to your doctor's office and speak to someone? I would try to follow-up in person, so they understand that you are serious about your healthcare. Ask for copies of everything that was submitted, fax confirmation pages, names of people who were contacted, etc. Just a shot in the dark, but it may work. Keeping you in my thoughts...

Last Friday, they scheduled my surgery for Friday, November 2nd. Today, I got a call this morning from my suregons office stating the operating room overbooked (and the assisting surgeon wasn't available anyway) and they had to move my surgery to 11/13. Not too disapointed, but that is almost a two week delay. On 11/13 I am the first surgery of the day, so I have to be at the hospital by 5am. THIS WILL HAPPEN!!! I can do this! Thanks to all of you who posted kind words to my previous post. One month to go... The countdown has begun. My surgery date will be here before I know it.
