Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Congratulations sueocco, you must be so proud of yourself and feel as good as you look. Sarah I have started tracking my food on myfitnesspal as well and it keeps the guess work out of what you are eating. I go back to surgeon and dietician on Monday which will be three weeks post op. It will be interesting to see whether I get specific targets to reach re calories, protein etc. At present I'm eating about 600 calories a day. Welcome Angie, the lovely Sleevers on this site are a great source of inspiration, motivation and knowledge. I am so glad that I found this site. -

Thoughts to all those affected by the wild weather and floods in the east. It's just so shocking to watch the developments. -

Hey Kristi, don't be too hard on yourself. A loss is a loss, if you weren't trying to lose weight you may have put on weight. 1.7 kgs is a decent loss in anyone's language. My daughter made pizzas a little while back with cauliflower bases and they were delicious. When I am off my post opp diet I'll have to get her to make them again. I remember her saying how easy the base was to make and I kow it didn't take her long. I am feeling really good again, all my tummy problems have settled and I start purees on Monday...woo hoo!! -

Managed to get into work to do some prep work until midday. No nausea today and no diarrhea. I swear once I put it out there and asked for advice it started to improve!!!! Thanks Mel I'll keep the Ribena juice in mind if I get it again. -

SwiftKate, just a question (sorry if it is personal) but there is no chance that you could be pregnant is there? The nause doesnt sound good. I am just asking cause sometimes we blame the sleeve for other reason we get sick. But I do hope it gets better. Oh Aussiegirl you have made my day! That was not too personal, I'm even quite flattered. No I'm not pregnant...thank God. Although I loved it when I was 25 years ago. No I'm 52, with two adult children and not married...I'd have some explaining to do!!! I do have a partner who is ten years older but the shop is shut for more babies for both of us. Actually after my crappy day yesterday I have woken up feeling really good this morning. I think my big rest helped yesterday, I am taking it as a warning not to overdo things. I have probably been doing too much in the last week and needed a day of complete rest. I love the test driving analogy to dating. Looking forward to some great stories about 'car shopping'. -

Aussiegirl you are awesome. Good luck with the neighbour and if he's not your type think of it as good dating practise. It's a win/win situation either way:) I had a terrible morning, didn't get to work today. Has nausea and felt generally yuk. Spent most of the morning in bed and felt so much better by mid afternoon. The one positive is my diarrhea was minimal today compared to how it has been. Hopefully that's the turning point. -

Sara and Lila I'm sorry you both had the same problem but it makes me feel better to know I'm not alone. Deano, yeah I'm in a dilemma re work. I actually feel ok but I'm a teacher and I was going to work for the next few days to work with my co teacher re planning etc. I have to be back next Thursday and Friday and my boss is not that sympathetic to people taking time off. That is 15 days post op so hopefully everything will be settled by then. I just re-read what I wrote and it sounds pathetic I know. If I'm not up to going back the first few days then I won't. I have heaps of sick leave and if I have to take it I will. How assertive is that? -

Just heard back from surgeon's rooms. The receptionist said she spoke to a surgeon there who said that this wasn't uncommon and that it was ok as long as I was getting enough fluids in which I am. Apparently it should rectify itself when I start on purees next week. Joy oh joy, another 5 days of this!! I am concerned because I am going back into work for a couple of hours each morning tomorrow and Friday so will try and go in early and then not drink anything until I get back home because the toilets wot be close enough for my current needs. I can start purees on Monday so hopefully that does the trick. Officially I go back to work next Thursday. -

Thanks one Elle and Deano. Took both your advice. Tried to get into my GP but she's away until 12 February and didnt want to see a doc who doesn't know my history or may not be familiar with the sleeve. So I bit the bullet and rang my surgeons rooms. One of the other surgeons is doing clinic today so his receptionist will explain my little problem and get back to me today with some advice. Will let you know how I get on. -

Thanks Deano, I seem to be sipping lots in the arvo so don't feel dehydrated. I only had about 150mls of the nutrient Water this morning and it set everything in motion again so reluctant to drink more at this moment although I feel thirsty. I will see how it goes for the next few days but in the meantime will try and book an appointment with GP now because it's often takes a week or so to get in. Cheers Kate -

Need some advice please. Sorry in advance for the nature of my problem!! I am now 8 days post op and feel great apart from tiredness. Liquids are going down fine but each morning I get diarrhea after my first drink and it usually lasts for a few hours then I am fine again. I thought it was my shake or milk and have eliminated different liquids and this morning just had a nutrient water and the same thing happened. I usually have nutrient water diluted with water in the afternoons and it goes down a treat. Now I am thinking maybe it's just my new tummy getting used to its first 'meal' each day. My surgeon only has clinic on Monday's and because this Monday is a PH I don't have an appointment until the 4th February to ask him about it. It's not serious enough to contact his on call doc but was wondering if this has happened to anyone else and how long it lasted. Would really appreciate some feedback. Thank you. -

One-Elle, thanks for that advice it certainly makes sense. I am one week out today and feel really good so might try driving in a few days. What you said about staying in the pool for a long time makes sense and it seems to make me remember reading something else somewhere about infections as you indicated. I have decided to give myself the best possible chance of recovery so the world will have to wait awhile before seeing me strutt myself in my bathers!!! Weight in day today, one week post op and I have lost 3.3 kgs this week. That's a total of 8.4 kgs in three weeks. Am so happy. So good to hear how everyone is getting along. -

Aussiegirl, great news about getting your cast off today. Hope it's onwards and upwards (or should that be downwards! Lol) from here. I have been trying to track my liquids with My Fitness Pal. Could someone please tell me how I change the totals of kgs, Protein etc. I have searched the sight and I'm sure it's something really obvious I have missed. My surgeon usually sees patients two weeks post op but because of the long weekend I don't see him until three weeks post op (4 Feb). I didn't ask about when I could start driving. Also whether I can go into a pool, not for swimming but thinking Australia Day, we are having friends over for a barbie (Soup for me). Was hoping to have a gentle dip. My wounds seem to be glued over and it's fine to shower. Any suggestions on my two questions? As I haven't told people about my surgery it will be interesting to see how my non-eating is viewed. They know I have had a hernia op and I was thinking of just saying I've been quite nauseous since the op so just having some gentle foods to get me through my recovery....hope it works!! Any advice re driving and the pool would be much appreciated. -

Well I am home and feeling a little uncomfortable but not really any pain which is great. Still a little concerned about leaks but doc said that every day the risk drops and by three weeks I should be in the clear. He did say if I feel unwell on any particular day to contact him so that makes me feel better. Managing to sip lots, today I have had water, V8 juice, and puréed and strained chicken and veggie soup. Loving the soup. I made it last week and froze it. -

No drains for me thank goodness. Temp is down again this morning but oxygen levels still low. Not sure what that means but hopefully will still be home today. Have been sipping for what seems like days!! -

Well firstly yesterday being Tuesday was my weigh in day.....104.8 kgs a total of 5.1 kgs lost on my pre-op diet. Didn't post yesterday because I had band removed and was sleeved yesterday. All good, have been very sleepy since op but should be going home tomorrow morning. My oxygen is quite low and have a temp tonight so hopefully that will sort itself out by the morning. Cheers everyone. -

Puppyphat, you look sensational but you would also look sensational a little heavier too. It all boils down to what you feel comfortable with. People are well meaning but they are probably haven't really got used to the new you. About four years ago I lost about 40 kgs in about six months on a strict diet (of course I couldn't maintain it). Any how I am 170 cms tall and got down to 72 kgs which is at the upper end of my healthy weight range. Well meaning friends and work colleagues kept telling me that I was.....too skinny, looking drawn, looked sick, needed to put on some weight, etc., etc., etc. I think they just couldn't quite take in the quick weight loss and the major difference in my appearance. I was probably the healthiest i had been for a long time and, more importantly, I felt so good about myself. It will probably be the same this time and I'll just be prepared to know what is right for me. Puppyphat I think after all you have been through you are the best person to know what is right for you. You go girl!!! -

Lila, I am so happy for you. That is an amazing loss and you so, so deserve it after all you went through. Kristi, that's a pain about the scales. Don't beat yourself up about the gain because you can only move forward from here. I still have my band but all my fill was taken out end of November and I managed to put on nearly six kilos until last Tuesday when I started pre-op. Am down four of those kgs now. Sara your loss for two weeks is fantastic, hope your doc eats his words. Thank you everyone for sharing here, it means so much to get a heads up on what I'll be in for. -

Kristi, it's exciting eh? Although I was quite flat and tray for a few days but that seems to have passed now. My surgery is at Hollywood hospital in Perth. I'd love to be buddies, only my immediate circle know. I told a couple of close friends about the sleeve (2 years ago) and they were supportive but I just feel like a bit of a failure so just want to do it without people knowing if that makes sense. Anyhow last Tuesday I posted my starting weight and committed to checking in every Tuesday. Today after one week on my pre-op diet I weighed in at 105.8 which is a loss of 4.1 kgs. Woo hoo!!!!!! -

Congratulations on your 20 kgs Suesue but even more awesome is your bike riding achievement....you have every reason to be proud of yourself. I have my surgery in nine days and have been pretty weepy and emotional about it all in the last few days. Reading about achievements like yours makes me feel so much more optimistic. -
