I dread this! I have sjogrens and already deal with dry mouth! I have biotine spray. I've not tried other products but not crazy about the spray. The gum is something you can just bite on and let the enzymes fill your mouth. I have a tiny pill called salagen and it will really cause your salivary glands go wild! I sometimes drool all over my pillow (embarrassing, yet), but if it gets super bad, I'd ask your surgeon about it

Dumping syndrome pre surgery
Mastiff_mama replied to Unbesleevable's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said sleevers don't/can't get dumping syndrome. It's so funny how every surgeon has different ideas...you'd think that our info would more the same. I guess a lot of docs go by what they've experienced with patients. -

I quit smoking for nearly 2 years. I slipped once ans that turned into several months smoking again. I've been on Chantix for months and kept playing ....one can smoke and not get the reward. I would buy a pack and smoke 2-3 a day and the pack would last a week. Well, next Friday I have to take a nicotine test. I've not smoked at all once this pack ran out and I don't wanna smoke EVER. I worry that I won't pass this test. Anyone know how long it takes nicotine to get out of your system?

Oh My Gosh, This protein drink is so delicious!
Mastiff_mama replied to MamaDupa's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I tried a sample packet of vanilla cake batter today with half a banana....one word! Gross! I added some frozen berries and some sweetener....salvaged it! One food way to get extra protein (for me) is a scoop of unflavored in my coffee! I am preop and not preop diet. I live alone and am a terrible eater and like most fatties don't eat breakfast so I started this and find I don't get hungry until mid afternoon -

I am shocked no bowel prep or anything! I have to go clear liquids and do the bowel prep to have everything empty! My surgeon is fellowshiped trained at Duke. I am so excited to have found one with such credentials! If you've not picked a surgeon try to get one fellowship trained! Huge difference

Starting liquid diet and don't know where to go
Mastiff_mama replied to tpietrowski's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's hard....but I'd add more protein. You cab get protein drinks at a vitamin store that are sort of Gatorade type drink. I keep on in the fridge and when I get hungry I go chug some. It helps! So does chugging water to fill the stomach. But protein is the key to feeling less hungry -

Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Mastiff_mama replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know 5 weeks without my mobic sounds scary! I too have ankylosing spondylitis. I take humira and can take that until surgery ans after if no infections. Here's a suggestion for you guys with knee issues. Ask your surgeon about voltaren gel, pennsaid, or flector patches. They are 3 different ways to topically get voltaren into the joint. I love love the patch! They are an nsaid, but only about 5% gets into your blood stream. My rheumy lets me use them with my mobic and mixing NSAIDS is a big no no but not enough gets into your blood to cause an issue! -
Vsg, Auto-Immune Disease And Complications
Mastiff_mama replied to Fiddleman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Arg....I sent you a long private message and it wouldn't send. I have AS too. I happen to have PCOS and diabetes. This surgery will virtually cure the latter two! PCOS will almost always turn into diabetes especially in the morbidly obese. My surgeon and my rheumy are both OK with the surgery. I have advanced AS ...my neck, upper t-spine ans SI joints are fused. After healing I will be able to resume my mobic and will be able to take steroids with a bad flare. I am not even going to have to stop the humira for the surgery ....if an infection occurs I will, of course. I'd be happy to talk to her through my recovery if she's interested -
