  1. Yeah 90 minutes of walking sounds kind of excessive. The most adventurous thing I've done so far is drive my sister from my house to Love field in Dallas and back. That's about an hour and a half round trip. She flew in the day before my surgery to take care of our kids while my wife was with me. My doctor said I could drive as long as I wasn't on pain meds. My only fear the whole time was a shart. Luckily that didn't happen :-)

    Attention February 2013 Sleeve Buddies!

Get out there and walk as soon as possible. It really helps. Good luck! You'll be on the loser's bench soon.

    Attention February 2013 Sleeve Buddies!

I think if the preop diet is very short lived, then they do a bowel prep. I did two weeks of preop protein shakes without a bowel prep (dropped 25 lbs.) . For some people the preop diet is just a few days or it's just a calorie restriction.
  4. Sharts suck, but constipation is worse IMHO! Stay vigilant and don't become complacent with farts!

Same here. I live in Plano.
  6. Yeah they are great until you turn from fart to shart! They will sneak up on you!
  7. I'm a Valentines Day sleever too. I feel great! Started my two week preop diet on 1/31 at 397. I weighed 365 this morning.
  8. Sleeved about 5 hours ago. Feeling awesome. Pain is about a 2 on a 10 scale. Dr Kim is great!

Awesome! That will be me in another 24 hours. I'm scheduled for noon surgery on 2/14. I'm down about 25 myself.

    BBQ Sauce?

I go to the one in Coppell. It's close to my work near 114 and PGBT. It's going to be a while until I'm back there though. One of my last big meals before pre-op was at the Pecan Lodge. It keeps the doors open at the farmers market in Dallas. We waited almost an hour, but it was great.

    BBQ Sauce?

I've had bbq from about 200 different places from all over the country. Gates is my favorite. I live near Dallas so going there is a bit of a haul, but my Mom lives outside of STL and the Walmart stores around there stock the sauce.

    It's been a long time

    Congrats! You look great!
  14. Going in on 2/14. I'm down 25 lbs from pre-op dieting that started on 1/31.

No insulin from pump for 12 hours. WTH!

The problem is when you are type 1 on a pump and you disconnect your body gets zero insulin. You can get very sick in a very short amount of time with zero insulin. People have gone into comas and died from DKA (diabetic keto acidosis) . I had it once and spent three days in ICU.

Yeah it's not happening. I see the surgeon Tuesday and I'll be in touch with my endo Monday. I'm comfortable doing it at 7 or 8 in the morning, but midnight is a trip to the emergency room. I have 100% confidence my endo will call bs on it too. There no reason to do it more than 4 or 5 hours before surgery. That's about the total lifespan of Novolog in your system. The whole point is not to go hypoglycemic in the OR. Even if I d/c'ed an hour or two before surgery there's no way I would go low.
  18. Greetings! I have my surgery scheduled for 2/14/13. It's me, my wife, a 2 yo, and a 6 yo. My closest family is almost 12 hours out and my hospital is 90 minutes away. My plan was to get a hotel room the night before surgery with whole family. Report to surgery the next day and keep them in the area. They would either visit me in the hospital, hang out around the town, or be in the hotel until I'm cleared to go home. Does this sound reasonable? I know most patients spend one night in the hospital, but what's the typical policy towards kids in recovery? Should I put my sister on plane to help out? I'm afraid my wife is going to be overwelmed with the kids, but she wants to be by my side at the same time. Any advise would be welcomed. Thanks!
  19. I also checked out Nick Nicholson. I'm not exactly fond of my insurance requiring me to go to a hospital and hour and a half away. Dr. Nick can do it much closer to my house. Dr. Nick is great doctor and probably a very good surgeon, but his staff seems a little sub-par. They seemed a little overworked and understaffed. I really didn't get that impression on the two visits I've had a Dr Kim's. Dr Kim's staff is very organized and very responsive. I'm going to have a lot more interaction with the staff, so I picked Dr. Kim.

    Family, Kids, Vsg, And Hospitals

I spoke to my big sister and she's willing to hop on a plane with my niece on 2/13 to entertain the kids and manage them at my house. They will fly out on Sunday. What an awesome sister I have! We fought like cats and dogs as kids, but she's there for me. Looks like my wife will be with me the whole time.
