Any Texas Gastric Sleeve Buddies?
JustSayMoe replied to w2ben's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm NW Plano (McDermott and Custer area). I'm not exactly a veteran, but I'm losing big time. I'm looking forward to hitting my goal. -
Yeah that's about right. I was doing 2-3 laps every hour or hour and a half. I definitely knew the next morning when I woke up. I wasn't sore from walking , but I did have a fair amount of gas buildup overnight. That first walk of the morning helped a lot.

Sleeping ALL the time!

I had the same problem for the first couple of weeks after surgery. It will get better once you start consuming more calories and protein. -
Very impressive! How much have you lost?

The single most important thing is to walk as soon as you are stable enough on your feet. It makes a world of difference. That and don't be afraid to fart and belch. Gas is 95% of your problems immediately post-op.

Down 101 from the initial consult with the surgeon and 91 from preop. I'm still kind of in denial when I put on my clothes. It seems like they shouldn't fit, but they do. :-) -

I came very close to throwing up during my leak test, but I haven't thrown up since my surgery on Valentines day. -

Dr. Kim and his staff are the best! You will not be disappointed. -

I used to be like that. I haven't eaten at a restaurant since my preop diet. If we go out, it involves the food bar at whole foods and a tiny amount of food. My kids get pizza and my wife gets whatever. -

Another big NSV today. I bought my third wardrobe since 1/31. I went from 52 inch jeans to 40 inch and 3XLT shirts to 1XLT. I'll probably be at 34 or 36 inch pants and LT shirts when I hit my goal. -

Looking good! -
I would do more calories than that. Consult your doctor, but I would guess that an absolute minimum for an average person is 1200-1300. Preop dieting is a different situation, but with that activity level you need more calories.

Outstanding. Just take one day at a time for now. Things will get much easier over time. Congrats!
-
I would take a cooler with some RTD protein shakes, some greek yogurt, maybe some ricotta and/or cottage cheese.

I hit 317 this morning. I started the preop diet at 397 and was 377 for surgery on Valentines Day. I feel great, and I'm looking forward to hitting the 200's. Then I'll be in the right century! -

Really nothing has changed other than my weight and the fact that I can't eat much anymore. My bathroom habits are the same. I don't have acid reflux or heartburn. Everything is exactly like before with bodily function. This is what sold me on VSG vs gastric bypass, DS (what my surgeon suggested), and lap band. Doudenel Switch is like a VSG and bypass combined. It would have probably cured by diabetes day one, but it has really bad side effects. From what I've heard, it's like trading one disease for another.

Like everything else in life your mileage may vary. In my case, my tastes are no different than before. The only noticeable change in my taste buds is I crave spicy food more. All of the old Protein tastes the same as before.
