38 years old with a great family. My supportive wife and I have a 2 yo boy and 6 yo girl. I enjoy a wonderful career in IT, I live for this stuff. On Jan of 2012, I hit a milestone that effectively puts my in the top 1% of field. We relocated to Plano, TX as a direct result of this milestone. I was fortunate enough to have done physician supervised diet in our old state of Delware which statisfied my requirements for UHC. I love my work, but the problem is I sit behind a desk for hours on end. Sometimes I'm on the phone for 4 or 5 hours straight. A big challenge for me is the physical activity thing. I'm sure it will be in the future as well.
I've been fighting my weight most of my life. Some of it's my fault and some of it's genetic. Everyone who has my maternal grandfather's blood is large. As of Dec 1st 2012, I'm 407 lbs and 6' 6" tall. My grandfather was extremely heavy at about 6'3". We were told at his funernal several years ago, that the casket with him in it weighed in excess of 750 lbs. Myself along with 7 cousins and other large, powerful men carried his casket from the hearse to a cart for his service. I'll never forget this. My hands were blistered from carrying him less than 15 feet.
Then my dad's side of the family brought the diabetes, high blood pressure, and of the illnesses. I'm diabetic, my dad was diabetic, and my grandfather was diabetic. Diabetes and its complications took the lives of both my both my dad and grandfather.
I'm doing everything in my power to avoid the fate of my grandfathers and my father. I have blood pressure problems, diabetes, sleep apena, high cholestorol, and the weight problem. This is personal and I'm taking a stand against it. I'm not going to sit back and do nothing about it anymore.
I've been through several diets and have lost lots of weight, but I can't seem to keep it off. Once I fall off the wagon things never fully come back. My heaviest weight was 429 and I got down to 350 in my last diet. I dropped that with about 7 or 8 months of pure willpower and drive. I was spending 5 or 6 hours in the gym every week, plus walking on my lunch hour for 45 minutes, and eating 1200 calories a day. I got burned out, we moved, and my routine changed dramatically.
