A few questions? ( just had surgery on 1/28)
pookiebear replied to kcinpa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About a day after I had to drink a barium (?) drink and get flouroscoped. If I can be honest it seems a little fishy if they're not checking their work... -
I know exactly what you mean. My goal is to lose about 145 pounds. I was down the weight of my 6 year old by the third or fourth month, I'm now past the weight of my 12 year old and by the end of it all, I'll have lost the weight of my wife.

HELP-Sleeved on Oct 30th and now nausea and not wanting to eat---
pookiebear replied to nanaspez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About three weeks after my vsg I couldn't look at an isopure bottle without getting nauseous . I switched to more soups, water with lemon, etc....have you found an egg dish you can eat? Poached? Soft fried even? 3 minute egg? I popped a fair amount of tums those first months. Also, super thin crackers (Whole foods has them near the deli/cheese section) have been very helpful with regard to getting past the nausea... -

Cranberry juice or a wedge of lemon helped me a ton, maybe a shot of (unsweetend0 ice tea? -
Is It At All Possible To Drive The Day After Surgery?
pookiebear replied to lucky8mb1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hired car drop me off at the hospital and then had my wife pick me up when it was all wrapped up. I mostly didn't want my youngest to see me laid up in a hospital. It was totally the right thing to do. I didn't need anyone hanging out in the hospital while I was sleeping most of the first day and being super chilled out the second. -
August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

6/14 Surgery Weight 332 11/25 260.6 My only question is if I'm going too fast with the weight loss. It's a little surprising. Doc seems fine with it.... It's pretty great though, gone through a few sets of pants already. Gotten rid of a lot of clothes, even had to remove a link from my watch band. MY wedding ring is feeling loose, so I need to find one of those spacer things until I stabilize. If anyone has any tips on that, I'd appreciate it. (I'm a guy, 6' tall, in case you're wondering) -
Three Weeks Post Op, How Long Before The Nausea Goes Away?
pookiebear replied to CityMamato3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I worked through a bunch of different foods to find out which ones made me feel bad/weird/uncomfortable and which ones didn't. Also at 3 weeks I liked/disliked different foods than at 4, 5 and 6 (Where I'm at now). Try different things. -
What? Wait, What Do You Mean I Will Not Get My Surgery Till Next Year!
pookiebear replied to nanaspez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I first went into a local hospital group, and went to go get tests, it wold have taken a very long time (3+ months) to get tests done, and calls to the doctors office would go unreturned, paperwork got lost, so I decided to switch to a different, as highly rated, doctor in the area. This was a terrific outcome for me. I was able to get tests rapidly, the email and phone calls were always returned, and the pre-and post-op surgery care was terrific, respectful and courteous. If you can, switch doctors now. If they can't help you now, imagine how useless, or worse, incompetent the care will be before, during and after surgery. I don't know what area you are in, but if it makes sense, switching is an option. -

I wouldn't cancel, honestly, it was kind of interesting. The OR I went to was super interesting and then *poof* you're out *poof* you're back in post-op then your room before you know it. The first day after is sore, but .... it passes fast and the meds in the hospital are aces. Worst thing about it is the barium shake they have you drink for the leak test. so it's not so bad. I didn't sleep until 3am the night before, though, don't know why, I wasn't all that worried, but still. Good luck! -
August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Well, you can add me at 8/14. So far, so great. Had cabbage soup and egg drop soup today. Lots and lots of chewing, but no problems so far. Though I am getting very tired of the isopure kool aid.. -
I was just sleeved on the 14th, so this is fresh in my mind. Post-op never got above a pain level of 5 as they were pushing dilaudid whenever I needed it (but not too often, naturally) I'd wait until it was really beginning to bug me before asking for another hit. I'd say the worst it got was a 6 before I asked for another :-) It was never as painful than a rib bruising I took earlier this year, which involved a torn muscle on my side. At home now, and I'm on taking the hydrocodone/tylenol liquid everyone 6 or so hours, with more time passing between each one, and I'm up and about/no longer in bed. The gas pain stinks, so does the hiccups when you get them, but they pass relatively quickly. There is very little incision pain, only when I overly leverage that area while moving about, so I'm favoring that area for now.
