Thrilled and bummed all in one night
Lander replied to Alabamasleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You bet it counts. They don't stretch that much. Good for you. You totally rock! -
Sleeved Dec 19 and down 27 pounds and had a 4 week stall.

Size 30 Jeans! Maybe this doesn't sound good to you, but...
Lander replied to honeymunki's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds great to me. I love shopping at the Fashion Bug/Lane Bryant and mine closed down last year. I was really upset about it and haven't bought anything since. They had such nice, stylish clothes that always let me feel better dressed than anyone else I know since I've moved here. I'm kind of worried about where to find clothes now that I'm going to be in smaller sizes by summer. -
I've been very frustrated that I could lose 60 pounds and still be wearing all my same clothes. Well I have noticed that my pants are getting a bit baggy, so I got out my few smaller clothes and sure enough I have dropped two sizes comfortably ( 24 to 20), though since I have so many clothes I won't give them all up yet until I can replace them with a few more smaller ones. And the good news is that after no movement for the past month, I finally lost 2 pounds today. Yay. 9 lbs to go to be halfway to my goal. Scale Victory - For the first time in 26 years, I weigh less than my husband. NSV - I can wear my diamond wedding band set again which I haven't been able to put on for a few years without it cutting into my finger and bleeding. Now they slip on and twirl around with great ease. It's amazing how much 2 pounds can lift your lift your spirits when it's going down or crush them when it's going up. I expected the 2 week stall after surgery. I heard a lot about it. I just didn't expect it to last a month. Hopefully I will continue to lose and not have to wait another full month. For now, I"m deliriously happy.

Stall 2 weeks after revision?
Lander replied to blondiefroggy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Wow. 2-3 weeks is when the stall usually hits. It's very normal. It's supposed to happen. Don't eat more to get rid of it. I was at my NUT this week for my 6 week check up and she has me on 300 calories a day at this point. I mentioned that I'd seen people on 800 calories at this point and her eyeballs fell out. I'm still on only half a protein drink a day. She doesn't want me trying to reach a protein goal yet or a calorie goal. She says its too early for that. Every one has a different surgeon and different NUT with different expectations. I'm just saying I'm very comfortable at 300 calories a day. Why take in all those extra calories if my body doesn't need them yet? -
Sounds like a lot of alcohol stops for someone just out of surgery. Hope you plan on being kind to your sleeve and sticking to water while the others are indulging in the drinking.

It's hard to recommend because what one person loves another person hates. You haven't said what it is you've been trying that you don't like. I prefer the pre-made drinks over the powders. The Atkins and the EAS are my favourites and can be bought at Walmart.

Very nice. Congrats.

It will be several weeks before you can even get in it. Have to wait for ALL the incisions to be completely healed first. After that, you'd better be taking in at least the 64 oz. the doctor requires per day. After that, I think it's a question ONLY your doctor can give you an educated answer on.

I've hit and passed my second goal weight and still no change with the bra size or the shirt size for that matter
-
Depends on your doctor and nutritionist. Mine has just allowed me to have "soft" vegetables and fruit at 6 weeks in small portions. Most of us can't manage to fit anything other than protein in at this point. A lot of people have said they are several months out before they can tolerate lettuce and some never can. It's very hard on the system.

stomach pain when you drink?
Lander replied to kimmy42083's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still get that discomfort under my sternum when I swallow things and I'm six weeks out. My surgeon showed me the diagram of the stomach and why it hurts. Things come down and hit the stomach from a curve. I've heard a lot of people here say they have it and that it stops at around 3 months. I look forward to that day. -
First week was clear liquids. Second week was full liquids. third week was pureed. fourth week was regular meat - 2 oz. 6th week I could add soft veg and fruits and 3 oz meat.

General post op questions...
Lander replied to LindsayRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Leave the steri strips alone. They will fall off when they are ready. Mine came off at about 3 weeks. For pureed food, my husband made me a piece of turkey pureed with a bit of gravy and it lasted me the whole week. I enjoyed it. I also pureed a can of chili. Between the two, I made it through the puree stage. Protein drink for breakfast, yogurt for lunch, puree for supper. That's the diet I"m still on but I know get to eat the meat whole. Some people do scrambled eggs or tuna salad during this stage or a baked ricotta. -
I got to shop in regualr size stores today!
Lander replied to gingerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's wonderful. I know it's going to happen one day, but somehow I just can't believe it. I still keep looking at the plus sizes online. -
Being encouraged to get the band over the sleeve
Lander replied to rockdutchess82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon has seen so many problems with lap bands he won't do them any more. He only does removals and conversions from band to sleeve or bypass. He said the band is a nightmare. Being as that was the advice of an expert and not some stranger on the internet, it was enough to help make my mind up. I'd say ask your doctor. -
Fabulous. That's great news. Hahaha

Pain Medication after Surgery

If it's packed in your luggage with your name on it I wouldn't make a point of mentioning it. -
Back to basics. Protein, protein, protein.

Meet 1st goal! Onederland!
Lander replied to ShyV.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How exciting. Can't wait to see that number. 10 pounds to go myself. -
That's a good idea. My husband has attended almost everything with me from the seminar right through. Luckily his plant shut down in Dec. when I had the surgery so he even stayed right next to me overnight in the hospital every night I was there. Because he has been there and heard all they have to say, he has been a terrific care giver and has done a lot of the cooking when I don't feel good, and reads the labels in the grocery store when he does the shopping. The more informed your husband is, the more support he'll be.
-
He's wrong and I'm sorry you don't have better support where you need it most. That said, you'd really better make an effort to learn to weigh and measure portions now because you will be doing that forever after surgery. If we eat to large a portion we have either a lot of pain or vomitting. Neither is nice. Portion control is part of a bariatric lifestyle.

I have not had a "regular" movement since the surgery six weeks ago. As it happens, sometimes when I'm on the toilet I pass gas. When I wipe myself I can tell that something else came out though I don't feel anything else come out but the gas. Check the toilet and sure enough, there is some poo-coloured silly string. That's all I ever get. And it only comes about once a week.

QUESTION: What made you decide to be sleeved OVER gastric bypass?
Lander replied to READY4CHANGE2013's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My weight loss goal was only 140, but I can still tell you I didn't want to reroute everything, I didn't want to be as limited in what I could eat (dumping syndrome) and my PCP told me that if I had the bypass I would have diarrhea for the rest of my life and that it would be the unpredictable kind. I really didn't want that. As it turned out, when I went to the seminar, the surgeon said that bypass patients can't take time release medications and I was taking a few of those and on those grounds my PCP pushed for me to have the sleeve. -
My favourite greek is the Yoplait Greek. Comes in a 4 pack of 4 oz. Love the coconut and the honey., Not as strong or "sour" as the chobani .
