    November Sleevers?

Hi! I'm a November sleever, my date is Nov. 15th, just got my approval yesterday!
  4. @UTGal99, I am right there with you! It's all I think aobut and then I question what am I doing, is this right? I have until November to make myself nuts thinking about this! I have PCOS too so that always throws monkey wrenches into the weight loss! I think my concern is its so permanent, I mean 85% of your stomach gone.. that is scary! However, I know no other diet has worked or at least let me maintain for more than 8 months! @XOTiffanyXO contrats on your approval and date as well! You are so right, what a nervous reality check! @tatylish thank you for the congrats! I'm sure your call will come really soon!

    Very Frustrating Doctors Appt .

I do hope you can get the revision done soon, I do know what it feels like to really work hard at losing it only to regain it so rapidly because of the PCOS. It's so frustrating, that is where I am at now! I can look at someone else eat something and gain 10 lbs just from smelling it! Thats how bad it is for me. Then I just give up and though I'm not a horrible eater, I'm not the best either. So frustrating! Hang in there! Ping me anytime you want to vent, I do understand the PCOS hell!

    Very Frustrating Doctors Appt .

I completely understand what you are saying and where you are coming from with the PCOS and yes friends, she will regain it that fast. I have PCOS too and decided against the band too for the reasons you are describing as well as I didn't think it would ultimately help maintain the weight with the PCOS, my doctor agreed and we are doing the sleeve in November. I'm scared to death, but I have to do something to get the PCOS under control. I had lost 50 lbs on Medifast 2 years ago, the diet stopped working after 6 months (this is something elose that happens to those us with PCOS, our bodies also adjust to any diet!) and I stayed on it for a year, paying for it in hopes to just maintain what I lost.... well, thanks to PCOS, guess what? Yup, I gained it all back adn then some in less than 6 months!!! Hence, the need for the sleeve.. I'm tired of this roller coaster ride. I do fear though, that eventually the sleeve will stop working and I'll be right back here 2 yrs down the road... Good luck, hopefully you will get this all straightened out and will get that band out safely ASAP.

    4'11" - Checking In.....

Have you had your surgery yet? If not, do you have it scheduled? I'm scheduled for 11/15 right now and I'm using Dr. Nusbaum out of Morristown/Llivingston. Who is your doctor?

    Rehospitalized

Glad there is no leak and you are in my prayers for a speedy recovery. I have a question though.. it seems a lot of folks get pneumonia (or since I've joined it seems that way) or a clot. Is this really that common for this kind of surgery?

    4'11" - Checking In.....

Just found this group and it's nice to connect with others who are vertically challenged and going through the sleeve process! I'm somewhere between 5'1 and 5'2, depending on who measures me! I'm hoping to have the sleeve done in November and I'm nervous yet excited. I can't believe that I might actually one day be free from the prision I'm in called my body! Anyone else in NJ?
  15. So just a quick question, if you can't take pills for a while, how do you take your required prescriptions that are pills?? I have about 5 that I take now! Most are small, but still.... Just curious!

    Rehospitalized

I hope that everything goes ok and that there is no leak or clots. Sending well wishes to you for a speedy recovery! Keep us posted please. Those are some of my biggest fears.
  17. Hi! I'm going to be getting sleeved in November and like many of us here, I have concerns and fears. I think about it constantly, but know that I've exhausted all options to try and lose and maintain but I have failed miserably. PCOS doesn't help this one bit. I wanted to hear from some of you who have had the surgery over a year ago. Since this surgery is fairly new comparied to Bypass or the band, long term effects really aren't well known. I'd like to hear how folks are doing 2, 3, 5, 10+ years out. Any complications? Anything come up that you didn't expect? Since this is so permanent, and 85% of your stomach is gone, that is quite scary to me. How does your body react? Does something happen years down the road? For example, I know now that folks are finding a lot of problems with the band and many doctors aren't doing it anymore. So things like that. Just looking I guess for affirmation that this is the right decision and long term, I will be ok! Thanks so much! Karen
  18. I was all ready to get the band and then I started to have second thoughts. My friend has the band and although she lost weight she's had problems such as the band slipping, the port moving and now not being in the right place, having to get fills which is a needle in the stomach each time and still never reaching her "sweet spot", she ended up with a hernia that wrapped itself around her port and pulled on the band and she threw up more time than I can count because of food getting stuck. She can't take her regular pills or Vitamins, no otc medications, they all get stuck, she has to crush anything she needs to take. Granted, everyone is different, but after seeing all this and hearing stories about how the band will basically stop working after a certain period of time, I realized for me and my health issues, this was not the right path for me to take.. Not to mention I HATE the thought of throwing up and having food stuck.. bleck! Once I learned more about the sleeve from my surgeon and his staff as well as what I've been able to learn on these wonderful boards adn the folks I've met and spoken to, I realized that the sleeve is the right option for me as well as my long term outlook of actually maintaining hte weight loss. Not to metnion it is a one time deal, it heals and there are no foreign objects harming your body, no fills needed and it gives me a new outlook on how to live the rest of my life healthy. SO.. here i am, waiting for my doctor to resubmit everything to the insurance company because even though the requirements are the same, they won't approve the sleeve without receiving the paperwork again, they won't just change the code like other insurance companies do. Good luck, it's not an easy decision but weigh all your options and do what is best for you and your long term goals and health!
  19. Oh wow, I didn't realize this kind of surgery was used for other treament options. I guess it makes sense for cancer, but it never dawned on me for ulcers too. That does make me feel better too. @Foxbins, you stated " It's different than an RNY bypass, much more malabsorption and a tricky surgery to perform."...Not sure if you meant the sleevel or the RNY was more difficult to perform?? I always thought he RNY was worse?
  20. @JamesHRN wow, that is great to hear that your friends are doing so well! It's inspiring and does put some fears at ease, thanks!! @peacequeen, thanks for our comments,I see you had a leak a few days after, is that the complication you are referring to? How did you know you had a leak?
  21. Thats a good idea of writing a list as to why you should have the surgery and why you shouldn't and you are right, I bet the list as to why I should have it will be longer than the list as to why I shouldn't! Most of why I shouldn't would be fears, most of why I should would be valid health reasons. My problem is a double edged sword.. I have 2.5 months to research and talk to folks who have had or are planning for it like here on the boards but the also I have 2.5 months to over analyze everything and drive myself nuts!! LOL
  22. @JamesHRN, how is your friend doing 5 years out? Any complications or concerns?? Thanks everyone for your replies, it's basically a fear of the unknown because long term effects beyond I guess 5 years aren't really known... it's the "WHAT IF" that plays out in my mind. I know I need to do this, but wow, it's a scary step to take... having 3 kids I always worry about the What IF... SIGH

    Here I Am Just Waiting

Good luck, looking forward to hearing from you!
  24. I didn't relaize that it was that new. I thought it was used as a bridge for folks to get to have the Bypass for years and then it was realized that it was a good stand alone option as well! Either way, any input folks can add about how they are doing 2-3 yrs out is greatly appreciated!
  25. Hi Everyone! I have a date of November 15th and I started a group for November sleevers too beacause I didn't see any started! Would love to connect with folks who are having surgery around the same time so we can help each other through it! I know for me, I'm 2.5 months out and still a nervous wreck! I know it's the right thing for me, but wow... I'm scared! Let's start getting in touch with each other and get each other through it! Karen
