mysunflower621 replied to mysunflower621's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL are you kidding?? Of course not, he didn't give me anything.. he doesn't believe me. I asked him to write a note for work allowing me to work from home 2 days a week because I have an hour and a half drive each way and its so painful there are days I can't lift my body enough to get in the car because of the pain and he told me NO! Pain meds? Never! I'm so frustrated! -
Surgery Complication..Rectus Muscle Hematoma? Need help..
mysunflower621 replied to mysunflower621's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The CT scan was negative for any leaks, tears or just trying to see what could be causing the pain... It showed nothing, but then he says he felt a hematoma (hmmm after 8 weeks of going to him for this?)... My primary wants me to get an MRI but the insurance has denied it.. Calling them now to fight with them. -

mysunflower621 replied to Lisa'slosinit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was ALWAYS cold.. but now I'm ALWAYS frozen! I can't get warm no matter what I do, what I wear, or how many blankets and layers I have on... it's so frigid here on the east coast, last night, with heavy socks, slippers, a blanket and a heating pad on my feet they were so cold they hurt! My husband has taken to calling me his little ice cube... LOL -
OMG Did I just screw everything up?
mysunflower621 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I apologize for the length of this post...I was sleeved 11/15, so just 8 weeks ago and I am down 29.5 lbs so far, not too bad. So, shortly after the surgery I had this severe pain on the left between the left and center incision. It was like a stabbing, ripping burning kind of pain literally between the 2 incisions to the waist where pants or undies would sit. At times it goes straight through to my back and other times the skin is sooo sensitive pants or undies hurt it. The doc thought it was a muscle tear and sent me for a CT san which I did today. Got a call from the PA at the doc's office. Scans are negative and she contradicted herself saying in one breath the CT won't show a muscle tear (then why did you send me for this?) and in the next breath that it would show a hernia in the muscle! Makes no sense! GRRRR so she tells me not to do anything...UMMMM life maybe, work, 3 kids, 3 dogs... do nothing??? I said to her that I'm barely doing anything NOW and I can't keep not going to work because I can't get in the car from the pain. I asked again where we go from here and she said, again, not to do anything!!! GRRRR So frustrated.. Its this next part that scared the life out of me... She then tells me to take tylenol and I said, yeah, I have taken some motrin. She gasps and says to never ever take motrin (or aspirin), ummmm ok good time to tell me! That's what I was taking! Ugh She said it will cause bleeding ulcers in the stomach.. GREAT! Now I'm worried as hell that I screwed everything up!! I think I may have taken 1 dose (2 pills) for a total of maybe 5-6 days in the last 8 weeks. OMG now I'm scared of this too! I feel ok, other than this pain and told her so but she said that it takes time for the damage to happen! Now what? I don't know what to do! Did I really screw myself up completely and mess up my sleeve???? HELP! -

totally depressed!
mysunflower621 replied to Alley1016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought I was losing slowly i the beginning too (sleeved 11/15) and my doctor told me that everyone loses at a different pace and the more you have to lose, the quicker you will lose in the beginning and if you don't have hundreds of pound to lose that could be the reason. He said to expect about a 8-12% loss in the fist month. I lost about 8% the first month. Also, once you start eating more Protein you tend to lose faster also. Of course, us women have our monthly cycles to deal with that include Water gain and bloating. So, I am 8 weeks out and down 26.5 lbs... only 12% in 8 weeks, but I have less than 100 lbs to lose. As long as the scale keeps going down, I figure I'm doing something right. You don't always lose weight every day! I know it's hard, believe me.but try not to get discouraged and be happy for where you are at. You are on your way.. if it takes 7 months or 12 months to reach your goal, does it matter? It's not a race, as long as we reach our goals then it was worth it! Good luck! -
What brand is the frozen greek yogurt? I haven't seen that in any stores!

There are lots of recipies out there for low carb/sugar free and even fat free ice cream so perhaps you want to check that out first? I found a site that sells low carb/sugar products and they have a softserve that you can make in an ice cream maker. I haven't tried it, but I did order it for when I just need a little treat, at least this way, I won't feel guilty! Here is the site: http://healthsmartfoods.com/healthier-soft-serve.html

Weird pain... help?
mysunflower621 replied to mysunflower621's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for your replies! Is it bad for me to say I'm glad I'm not alone in this odd pain?? I'm just wondering why 8 weeks out this is still so panful? Ugh!!! No clue what I could have done this weekend to reaggravate it if it is a muscle. -
Hi Everyone! I was sleeved 8 weeks ago this coming Thursday. I've had no problems with the sleeve or eating anything as I transitioned. What I have had almost since about a week after surgery is pain on the left side between the middle incision and the left incision. It runs long ways (up and down) and sometimes the most sensitive part moves slightly. It's a stabbing knife tearing burning kind of pain depending on how I move. and sometimes it goes straight through to my back. There are days where any kind of movement is really painful and other days where it isn't so bad. Again, my stomach has been fine. Most of the time the pain is as I said between the two incisions and almost at the waist line..at times above the waist line. When it's really bad, the skin is actually so sore and tender to the touch in that area that even pants or undies hurt. Bending down, forget it, twisting slightly, forget it.. getting in a car will take 5 minutes because it hurts so bad and is so sore.. I thought perhaps it was just a torn muscle from the surgery, but as I said it's been almost 8 weeks now! It got better right around Christmas and I had put some icy/hot gel on it and it seemed to ease it.. Not anymore.. it was fine from Christmas through to the end of last week. Over the weekend it got really bad agian. No clue why.... The doctor looks at me like I'm nuts.. presses on it (which only aggravates it) and says I don't feel anything.. they scheduled me for a CT Scan with the dye but that's not for another 2 weeks. Anyone else have this or have any kind of clue what this could be? I'm getting frustrated and tired of it. I just thank god I have no problems with the sleeve or eating!! Thanks!

mysunflower621 replied to 2013newme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
OH YES!!! I got pictures.. YUCK! LOL I am not one who wants to see any of that.. No thanks, I'm good.. During my scope I had my eyes closed and my doc taps me and says oh look look, see your stomach and your hernia.. I say, no I'm good, he says open your eyes and look this is cool, I again say, no, really I'm good... LOL he continues to tap me saying look, look, look like a kid in a candy store LOL.. Ok I finally turn my head open one eye and go oh lovely.. so we finish and the next thing I know he's handing me a bunch of pictures. I said what is this for, he replies, you, don't you want to take these home and show your family? REALLY?? NO!!! EWE!!! LOL... my husband the Navy Medic and EMT of course LOVED to see them. After the surgery my surgeon gave my husband more pictues.. LOL I have yet to see them! Thank goodness!!! LOL -

mysunflower621 replied to healthiermom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations!! I can certainly understand how you felt and why you looked into the surgery! You're doing a wonderful job, I was sleeved on 11/15 and I'm down just about 25 lbs (24.6 to be exact! LOL) and it is a great feeling of accomplishment to know we are on our way! My biggest worry is maintaining it! -
VSG and Hernia Surgery - anyone?
mysunflower621 replied to 2013newme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I too found out during the scope that I had a hiatal hernia and had no clue and no problems with it prior to surgery. What I did notice was a lot of gas getting stuck from the sternum under the ribcage to the left and it was painful, they told me this was probably worse because of the hernia repair. I did start to have reflux if I ate too fast.. but it isn't terrible and I take a prevacid every morning and it seems to be helping. I had no complications from the hernia repair either. -
any November sleevers?
mysunflower621 replied to almiita06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG you are so right, there are not enough hours in the day to get it all in!! I feel like all I do is eat and drink! I have a real "dumb" phone, I haven't come up to the 21st century yet with a smart phone, is the myfitnesspal only an app? I haven't heard of that before. I bet if I log in the protein I'm eating, I'm not even close! I really need to find a way to get those shakes in.. bleck! LOL I don't know why all of a sudden they sit sooo heavy when before they were fine! Go figure! -
anyone had biotin for Hair loss
mysunflower621 replied to msreaina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Biotin capsule is basically a Vitamin tha tyou can get in any health store or even Walmart/Target or supermarkets. The liquid biotin Biosil and Super Silia I get at a health food store called Basil Bandwagon. We have one in town, but you can probably order on line as well. The biosil comes in caplet or liquid, so make sure you get the liquid form where ever you buy it. I haven't seen those in regular stores like Walmart, but I'm sure many of the health food/organic stores may sell them. -
I have 2 liquids that I put in my Water or ice tea.. one is biosil (6 drops) and the other is super silia (30 drops/day) which I get at the healthfood store. My doc also put me on pre-natal Vitamins to help build up my hair. I'm only at 7 weeks out so I'm hoping to ward off the hair loss since I have thin hair to begin with. I've also read that getting all your Protein in helps a lot as well.

Congratulations! What a wonderful journey! I hope I can say the same at 6 months out!! I'm only at 7 weeks now!

Protein Drinks!
mysunflower621 replied to jwhite692's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't stand the taste of the unjury shakes, so I found EAS protein shakes, they are in Walmart, Shop rite supermarkets etc..and I've seen them on Amazon. I get the EAS chocolate (they also come in Vanilla, Cafe, Strawberry that I've seen) and there are 3 different kinds. EAS Myoplex which has 20 g protein, EAS Light, 17 g protein and EAS with 42 g of protein in it. The higher the protein, the thicker/richer the shake I found. The EAS 42 g of protein one was a god send to me because it helped me to get in half of my required protein in one drink. I like them cold, so I would sip it for a while mixed in a cup of ice. I find these to be very tasty and doesn't have a chalky taste at all. The only problem I've had now (and I'm 7 weeks out) is I'm eating regular meats now and I find the 42 gr protein shake to be too heavy for me now... Your body changes, but I will tell you for those first 5 weeks, they were a godsend to me! Got me through the liquid only and the soft stages very easily! Good luck! -
anyone had biotin for Hair loss
mysunflower621 replied to msreaina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on 11/15 and I've been taking liquid biotin and silia as well as a pre-natal vitamin that is chewable (yucky tasting though) that my doc prescribed which for some reason helps my hair look great! The liquids I get in a health store called Basil Bandwagon and it's called Biosil and Silia drops. I think they help so far and I have thin hair. I'm not quite 3 months out yet and that is when the loss is said to occurr, I'm hoping it does not, but if it does, perhaps it won't be as bad. I also have a biotin pill but it's quite large and since I'm not a great pill swallower to begin with, I don't want to risk it just yet. -
any November sleevers?
mysunflower621 replied to almiita06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a question for you all! I've noticed that as I begin to explore and eat more "meat/protein" that I have a much harder time getting down the Protein shakes. They sit so heavy now when they didn't before. I had an EAS protein shake that gave me 42 g of protein in one shake, it was wonderful because that met half of my daily requirement! Now, I can't drink it at all, it's way too heavy! SO.. for those of you able to eat meats or cheese, eggs etc.. now do you really know how much protein you are getting in with them? I've taken ground turkey or beef and made meatballs slightly larger than a sweedish meatball.. I can eat maybe 1 in a sitting.. or I've had maybe 1/4 of a slice of real turkey, ham or steak etc... how do I know how much protein this really is? I'm afraid now that the shakes are completely unappealing to me that I'm not getting in nearly enough protein. I do find I have to eat/drink something every 2-3 hours, but then also try to get in all my liquids so it's hard. I'm doing well, tolerating everything great so far (knock on wood) but really can't figure out if I'm getting enough in. Thanks! -
any November sleevers?
mysunflower621 replied to almiita06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 15th and so far, knock on wood, I've had no poblems eating anything I've tried. Now I'm eating just about any protein I want along with the key staples like yogurt, protein shakes, sf pudding, sf ice/fudge pops, eggs and cheese. Had steak for the first time tonight and did ok. Have had turkey and ham, ground turkey and ground beef made into meatballs. I also did a ricotta bake and had no problems. The transition so far, again, knock on wood, hs been quite easy. -

mysunflower621 replied to Lisa'slosinit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, me too! I'm always freezing! My husband calls me his little ice cube now!! I have 4 heavy blankets on the bed and still sleep all bundled up including socks! He says I'm trying to roast him! LOL Cant' get warm at all. I know it's winter but with big fuzzy socks, slippers, heavy fleece pants and big bulky sweatshirts you'd think I'd warm up a little... NOPE! Still frozen!! -
