    spitting stitches

I had the same thing happen to me at my 6 week appointment. It came through on my largest incision and to be honest, since it took so long for that one to heal, I thought it was just a little bit of scab that was hanging on. The doctor just grabbed the end of it, pulled it up a little and snipped it off. All seems well now!
  2. Like you, I had only had a c section before my sleeve. I don't really know how long I was out before I woke up in recovery, I just remember a nurse saying my name and asking how much pain I was in. I was pretty sore and stiff, but had no real pain to speak of. But I was very, very nauseous...I assume from the anesthetic. I never threw up, but I made them give me something for it, which made me sleepy all over again. I took anti-nausea medicine for the rest of the day. I had to get up and start walking laps as soon as I was coherent and had to do so every 2 hours for the rest of my stay.
  3. I don't know what could be causing your problems, but I do know that during my pre surgery class, they told us that B12 is a must (sublingual 1 time per week) starting right after surgery because if you are deficient for too long, it can cause permanent, irreversible neurological damage. They also said you cannot ever 'overdose' on B12 because your body just eliminates the excess through urine. Also, the darker yellow your urine is, the more dehydrated you are!
  4. I had my sleeve on October 30 and I really didn't try to keep it a secret from people. For one thing, I knew they'd figure it out soon enough and also the factory where I work has numerous people who have had bariatric surgery. Most of them have had the gastric bypass and a couple of us have had the sleeve. It's like having my own built-in support group at work! Anyway, it really makes me mad when people judge us by saying we took the easy way out. Those are the people who have never had to live with obesity and all the medical and mental issues that accompany it. I am sick of people saying things like ' just eat less'. Seriously, do these people think that if it was that easy that we would not have done that already? I guess they think the 'easy way' is to risk your life ( because any surgery is risky) and take a huge chunk out of your bank account (because it certainly isn't free) and to basically have to re-learn everything that has to do with nutrition in your life. I think that those of us who choose this surgery are some of the strongest and bravest people I know!

    Hypothyroids & Weightloss

I also have hypothyroidism and I was sleeved on October 30. I have lost 62 pounds to date, so yes the surgery does work for people like us! I wouldn't really consider my thyroid stable at this point yet either since my doctor increased my levothyroxine dosage again at my last visit. The surgery definitely changes your life in many ways, but the only regret I have is not doing it sooner!
  6. Well, if you're lucky enough to live near the one and only Jungle Jim's International Market in Fairfield, OH, they carry nearly every flavor of syrup that Torani makes. If not, you can order from their website: www.torani.com. They have 34 flavors just of the sugar free syrups, not to mention all their other ones. Happy hunting!!!

  8. I had my sleeve surgery on the 30th and got to come home yesterday. I am doing pretty good....still pretty sore & stiff but no real pain, but overall doing great. It is tough to try keeping track of everything I consume and do, but I just have to get used to it! My doctor makes all his patients take Lovenox (blood thinner) shots for 11 days after we come home to help reduce the risk of blood clots. Fair warning.....after my insurance paid their part, it still cost me more than $300 for only 11 injections! Dang!!! But when you gotta have it, you gotta have it! Good luck to everyone!!
  9. Thanks everyone for the well-wishes! The day of my surgery, I kind of felt like I had been hit by a Mack truck. I didn't really have any pain, but I was very sore and stiff. They make us get up and walk every 2 hours and that really helped me get through it. I didn't have to take too much pain medicine while I was in the hospital and haven't needed any at all since I've been home. I think that a big part of it is to keep moving!

    Psych Evaluation

I imagine everybody's psyche evaluation varies somewhat, but mine consisted of a brief oral conversation with the doctor, then a very long test where the answers to the statements are either agree or disagree. It was about the dumbest test I've ever seen! I literally laughed out loud more than once over some of the statements....for instance, one said "My soul leaves my body" and then "I would like to be an auto racer," "Once a week or oftener I become very excited." Of course they have 'normal' statements like " I have very few headaches," and "I have no fear of water." It is easy to figure out how any of the questions should be answered.
